Some blogkeeping:
It looks to me like yesterday’s post didn’t go out in its email version. I have no idea why. It could just be a glitch in Feedburner. Or it could be that for some reason, I posted too late for it to go out that day (though I really didn’t, but it’s crazy Feedburner, so who knows?) There’s a chance you might get two posts in your email today. Or not. And now – today – I see that my subscriber count went from 450 to 50. Something’s up.
As I’ve said before, this is a Google service that isn’t being fully supported by Google anymore. It is in that I can change times for the posts, etc, but it isn’t in that it’s really hard to get any sort of answer from Google. Almost impossible. I’m not about to spend one more penny supporting this blog than I’m already spending, so I’m not going to go with another service, all of which are paid.
As always, the best thing to do, and the the thing I prefer you to do, is come directly to the blog. There’s no truer indicator of whether I’ve posted or not than that.
Second item. Sometimes, I get a notice from a webmaster saying my reply to your comment on the blog was rejected and can’t be delivered. Priscilla, I got one for you this morning. I got another one the other day for someone else. This is usually because your email provider has marked it as spam, most likely because they see a lot of mail coming from a certain IP address (my host, which is the host to gazillions of blogs and websites) so they block it as spam. Again, nothing I can do about that. So, if you don’t get a reply – and you know I reply 99% of the time – check back on the blog.
Okay. Enough of that.
We watched Biden and Harris speak yesterday. Compassion, intelligence, clarity, power – I felt hope and, at the same time, a sense of calm that I haven’t had in over 4 years. I don’t kid myself, I’ll get angry again very soon because the Orange Man and all his henchmen will pull out every trick in the book, will call Kamala names, will – as I saw this morning – start spewing ‘birther’ nonsense. I’ll have to keep repeating my mantra: Biden/Harris 2020. Over and over. I’ll remind myself that I’m voting FOR something – much more positive than voting against. (Though that is implied, for sure.)
I’m waiting for a package in the mail. It came from Italy. I’m tracking it. So far, the slowest part of the journey has been here, stateside. I normally have no problems with the USPS. They are stellar. But, now? With all the changes being made as OM (Orange Man) tries to suppress the vote via mail-in ballots? The USPS is moving very slowly. My heart goes out to those faithful employees who are being forced to slow everything down. It’s shameful. Speak out. Call your representatives. We need the Post Office, which was functioning very well indeed before OM and his bogus Postmaster General started messing with it.
End of soapbox.
Side note: Does OM not realize that his makeup stops short of his hairline and isn’t blended on the sides? It’s as if he’s auditioning for some Noh Drama or mime work. Come to think of it, it looks like what in actuality it is: a mask. An apt symbol for his entire life. I must admit I’m endlessly fascinated by how badly it’s applied. We watched an episode of Frasier last night in which Marty (Frasier’s dad) applies some spray-in hair dye and it proceeds to get all over everything; chairs, rugs – and it runs down his face. OM’s makeup reminds me of that.
Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.
Shanna says
Yes, and watch out for those “fatilities”! This guy is tone deaf on so many things, and the way he paints his face is just one of them. You know it’s being done at his direction and not because any makeup artist in the world thinks it’s a good job. Everyone who works for him must do it HIS way. So embarrassing. Laughable yet so dangerous, OM. It will take us a long, long time to recover from him.
Claudia says
I read something the other day – John Bolton said in his book that it takes 2 hours for Trump to get hair and makeup done.

The post to and from America does seem to be taking longer than usual. I watch the headlines on our national news channel over the lunch hour, but I can’t take in much more than that at the moment. I find it very sad that President Trump could have used his time in office to effect so much change for the better and didn’t.
Thanks to everyone for the stand mixer recommendations the other day – an “ice blue” Kitchen Aid it’s going to be!
Claudia says
Your package was processed in San Fran on August 3rd. It’s still ‘in transit’ with no notice of when it might reach NY. Just says ‘delayed.’ Yikes.
Stay safe, Barbara.
Barbara W. says
Yikes indeed. Mind you, I had a parcel arrive the other day that appeared to have travelled a circuitous route through America. Makes me want to one day visit some of the places it stopped at..
Claudia says
Start planning that trip, Barbara!

Very true that Biden has made his choice and maybe now we can finally get somewhere on change at the top. A glimmer of hope. Not a glimmer, much more than a glimmer; I’m actually feeling VERY hopeful; it’s been a good shot in the arm. I feel excited again. Restore decency and so much more. She and Biden are inheriting a huge mess. Don’t call her the word that rhymes with witch; give her credit for being strong. Good luck going up against her, Mr. Pence.
My husband mentioned that he’s continuing to also be impressed with Chelsea Clinton; he thinks she’s another rising star; said she speaks so well, committed to early-childhood education and nurturing; how it relates to disadvantaged families and changes which need to be made to make sure no kid is left behind and denied a good start in life.
But I don’t like what I’m reading about the post office and I hope more will continue to be exposed. Trump and ‘his’ will stop at nothing. I hope the media continues to get all over this!
Claudia says
I’m appalled at what is happening with the Post Office. I want Trump GONE, from office, from society, from everything. Hopefully, sitting in Solitary Confinement the rest of his life.
Stay safe, Vicki.
Jane Krovetz, NC says
I just read more about the Post office situation and now he who will not be named has admitted it is due to limiting Democratic voters from voting. This has to be illegal! I never thought I’d see something like this in my country! I am really disheartened. My husband and I have decided to vote in person despite the risks. We shouldn’t have to make this decision.
Claudia says
It is illegal. He’s suppressing and tampering with the vote and using a beloved institution to do it.
Don and I were talking about voting in person today. We just may do it.
Vicki says
I’m lucky that our City Hall/city offices lobby is open and they have a secure/locked drop-off for ballots in its own sort of cement block/stone ‘holder’. Big thing it is. It’s been there for years and is like permanently set into the floor; and, of course, when the City closes for the evening, the building is locked up entirely; also, nearly adjacent, is the police station. I’ve watched them come pick up those ballots on voting day (round the clock) and it’s almost akin to collecting them with armed guard; they take it very seriously, are uniformed-up, and it’s always at least two people. I think well-trained volunteers who maybe even take an oath. But it could be County staff. With no offense to my beloved post office, I’ve been using that City Hall drop-off point for the last few elections. Mostly because it’s just easy, and I confess to liking ‘easy’.
I agree. I AM FURIOUS that this is happening to our time-honored postal service. As I wrote that, my skin just turned into goose-pimple flesh in a really bad way. The United States Postal Service is a sacred American institution with dedicated, selfless employees and they do not deserve this! They’ve had enough to deal with in the past six months with Covid alone. DO NOT MESS WITH THE U.S. MAIL.
VOTE HIM OUT. Trump has done his best to undermine everything good in our country, right up to the very minute he is escorted out of The White House (a day I can barely wait for because I’m so looking forward to that historical moment). I consider him nothing short of a mob boss.
Claudia says
I am either going to vote in person or I’m going to hand deliver my ballot. I have to research that.
He is a mob boss and he’s been linked to the mob for most of his adult life.

Vicki says
It’s getting more complicated. My husband is sometimes a poll worker; he did it for March elections and they want him again, so he’s getting a lot of info about November plans at the polling places in terms of all the mitigation/distancing (like voting booths ten-feet apart). None of the old familiar locations, either; of course it’s been on the news as to possibly use large school gyms (would kids be in school, or not in school?!); I’m thinking some of these closed-up department stores, especially the empty Kmarts (which we’d wondered out here in SoCalif might even be used for extensions for hospitals with Covid patients).
The gist my husband’s getting though (from trying to search all this out, get info, because he hasn’t made a decision yet to be a poll worker again, and a large part of that is concern for any exposure he could bring home to me, the more vulnerable than himself), is that they can’t get enough poll workers. They’re working on it; but time is drawing near.
People know in Nov that Covid may be raging beyond what we can imagine (we’re a high risk state in SoCalif; our numbers are BAD already), so they don’t want to commit. Many poll workers are retirees. A high risk right there due to their age. Because they have to be onsite at a polling place from 7a to 8pm (and the hours before and after; it’s a VERY long day for a poll worker), with exposure to hundreds (thousands?) of people coming in and out, it looks like they’re even thinking of putting the poll workers in their own oasis/bubble with its own separate filtration system, i.e. they’re trying to figure out EVERYthing to make this work out and convince a poll worker that they’ll be safe (and convince a voter they’ll be safe).
Will just have to hope with a groundswell of indignation and horror and anger and worry, that people will do all they can do to make sure their vote is counted. May well have to be an extra effort. I heard it mentioned that we should try to support advocacy groups who’ll need to be in touch with the voters who have no transportation to polls (or a mailbox), who have disability and can’t leave their homes but also reaching out to those sections of a community where a person doesn’t quite know HOW to get their ballot, etc. What about the Covid frontline worker, back-to-back shifts, no time to sleep much less try to get to a polling place. So much easier to just pop the ballot in a nearby postal box (the good ‘ol days).
Trump messes with the mail-ins (OMG, did you see that, a flatbed truck removing blue USPS mailboxes off roadsides or streets; looked like more of a rural area, so you know those towns rely on those boxes; I mean I seriously can’t believe we’re living this!) but then if citizens also can’t feel they can safely and easily get to the polling places (and then ‘what if’ no one wants to work the polls to even be there so that a polling place can indeed be ‘open’ for business), some people are going to wind up not being counted, so it’s a lesser vote count (Trump’s intent) just increasing his chances for a victory. He wants low voter turnout. He’s trying to make it difficult or impossible for the precise people he knows wouldn’t vote for him. We need a landslide election and he wants to sabotage any hint of one.
If people need a mail-in ballot, they need to be asking for one NOW, don’t wait. I’ll be voting as early AS I CAN. I agree with what has been discussed on some of the nightly news shows on TV, when the experts are interviewed, that there needs to immediately be an oversight committee, starting with the postal service, headed up by one Repub and one Democrat, with a non-partisan effort to be managing this dangerous debacle posthaste. WE CANNOT HAVE OUR RIGHT TO VOTE BE TAKEN AWAY FROM US.
My goodness, wasn’t it one hundred years, right now, this month, that my grandma finally got the right to vote? She didn’t get to vote like her granddaughter did at age 18. Women fought hard to have a voice and a vote; we can’t let them down.
This is subversive and insidious. I never thought this would be my life. That someone elected to the top could have so much control to do his bidding. The abuse of power, over and over and over again, is frightening. Back in, say 2015, I laughed Trump off as an annoying buffoon; buffoon is a lightweight word, not even in the conversation now, for what is the true, tyrannical Trump.
Like everybody, I can’t believe, every single day, SOMEthing so horrible that you almost question yourself if you’re having the worst nightmare of your life or is all this really true; how can this be happening, but it is. As will every month of 2020, August will go down in history like no other August. Anyway, I feel I’m not expressing myself well when writing while upset, and I’m no expert on anything; I’m just trying to get informed. Try to sift thru and understand what the heck is happening.
And this ‘othering’/birthering of Kamala Harris is reprehensible; she’s qualified for the job, she was BORN in my state, she serves my state as a U.S. Senator AND she is well-educated; her parents were (her mother has passed)/are esteemed, with amazing careers. (I also like her age; this is hitting just at the right time for her and us. It’s a good balance between Kamala H. and the older Joe Biden; they’ll make a great team. Good energy/synergy.) Sen. Harris isn’t going to take any sh*t from anybody. They will NOT knock her down. She’s up for this.
Claudia says
They’re desperate. The only thing they have is the ‘birther’ nonsense and to call her ‘nasty’ –
I read this morning re Rachel Maddow – I’ll have to watch it later – that the blowback from moving mailboxes was so vociferous that de Joy had to stop. We need to be that loud about everything to do with voter suppression.
Stay safe, Vicki.

Trump is openly admitting to interfering with this election. Isn’t that illegal?
And now he just announced a peace deal with Isreal and UAE. Doesn’t peace in the middle east herald the end times and AntiChrist?
I have never believed in the Rapture but the way 2020 is going I believe anything can happen!
I don’t feel very confident that Biden will win. Trump will use every dirty trick and then some. And if he does lose I am afraid he will dispute it and refuse to leave. He will call out his gun loving base and there will be blood in the streets.
Sorry, didn’t intend to be such a downer.
Stay safe.
Claudia says
I don’t believe in the End Times or the Rapture. And Sadat/Begin shared the Nobel Prize for peace in the Middle East in 1978. Didn’t see any End Times then.
I’m also sure we’ll find out this isn’t really a peace deal. It’s Netanyahu and Trump’s pals in the UAE trying to help him win the election.
Thanks, Marilyn.

Yes…I’m sure you are right about the peace deal.

Yes, his “peace in the Mid-East” bit this morning was very distressing. They named it the Abraham Agreement, but the idiot thinks it should be called the Donald J Trump Agreement. It makes me want to puke. (sorry) Then the attendees had to go around the room and praise him and Jared, (which also causes reflux) for their brilliance. I think for the next 80+ days, we will be getting daily MIRACLES that he will be hauling out and sharing with us. Maybe one day he will make himself disappear and everyone in the room will quietly walk out and that will end this nightmare. I am so afraid that with all of the yucky people he surrounds himself with, who are willing to do absolutely anything for their cult leader, we may have years ahead of us as he will simply heist this election in any way, shape or form he finds.
Claudia says
I’m sure we’ll find it isn’t exactly a peace accord. Because you know there’s more to it than what Trump is saying.
And frankly, not that I don’t care, but who cares? We’re in the middle of a pandemic. People are dying. Homes, jobs, and apartments are being lost.
I think, as usual, he’s barking up the wrong tree.
Stay safe, Chris.

And better yet, this morning I read that the Dallas Cowboys (aren’t they still located in TX, the state that is a Petri dish for Covid) are opening their stadium to 40,000 fans for each home game they play………… am I the one losing my mind, or is it these money hungry dolts?? Meanwhile, we are still wiping down all purchases coming into our little home, wearing masks, and staying home. It all seems rather insignificant and silly with 250,000 in Sturgis, and more and more huge crowds congregating, not to mention using our children, teachers and staff for this “Great Experiment” of “it is what it is”.
Claudia says
Unbelievable. Texas, that just had a sure in COVID cases that broke their hospitals.
We are doing the same. Still taking precautions right and left. And going back to school should be entirely virtual, everywhere.
Stay safe, Chris.
Vicki says
I have a whole bunch of relatives in Texas and they are driving me insane. Big-city folks, too; like Dallas, Ft Worth, Houston, San Antonio. I come from a long line of Texans and there’s a lot about Texas and Texans I really love. My roots go back there to the late 1800s. My cousins are not unintelligent people, age group anywhere from 30 to 70; but they can’t seem to delay the gratification of ‘normal life’ and are, more and more(!!!!) going out to restaurants (indoor dining)…constantly going out…margaritas with enchiladas, beer with ‘BBQ’…driving to places, shut up in the car together (not members of the same household)…’family’ get-togethers with like 15 people or more (“we’re careful, Vicki” – – yeah, sure, define your version of ‘careful’); any excuse to get out, going to each other’s houses; plop the kids in daycare (where I am in SoCalif, we hardly HAVE a daycare that’s open, from what I can understand!); go about your merry way, in a state riddled with Covid cases and death.
Anything I say falls on deaf ears. At this point in time, hereafter, I know I’ll be getting a call along the way that one of them has Covid; it’s inevitable. Maybe only then will the seriousness of this pandemic sink in. I realize I could wind up with dead cousins. I have to steel myself for that phone call. And only a handful of them are Trumpers; it’s not like they too have drunk the koolaid. I just can’t understand any of it. They make me feel like a freak because I’m cautious.
And, yes, my husband and I haven’t changed anything; we’re still disinfecting no differently than we did in March. We keep away from people, despite invitations and pleas to meet up. We wear masks. The skin on my hands is so dry that I actually scratched up a blister between my fingers, I guess from not rinsing off the soap well enough with all the handwashing. We’re still careful with packages and mail delivered; we wipe down all the groceries. If my husband comes back from an errand, he’ll usually shower; but, at the very least, he changes clothes. We’re trying hard to not have to call in any service people to the home interior, so my husband’s had to do several DIY household tasks we’d usually hire out. I stick mostly to my rear yard with high fences and big, tall gates, away from ‘the public’.
My cousin tried to go to the beach here in SoCalif on a weekday (I may have already said this) and she tried to distance herself from others, but she couldn’t control who kept walking right by her beach towel, so she gave up and went home. (We’re hot here; low 90s; a lot of people at the beach but, of course, it IS the last couple of weeks of August, vacay time.) She said there’s no way you can properly distance on the beach paths and promenades. And being outdoors, many people aren’t wearing masks, yet they’re mere feet from you.
The beaches are PACKED. Many beach cafes and restaurants have spilled dining out into the parking lots but you still have people walking back and forth at the barriers who can technically reach out and touch you while you sit at a table and another friend of mine said she checked it out but still felt the tables were too close to one another, so she and her husband opted out and went back home to eat. Said next time they’ll just pack a picnic and eat out of the car.
But I see with other friends how they’re dangerously starting to let down their guard. Not seeing their families in person for five months? It’s getting to them, in a bad way. I have a cousin who recently had to fly to another state to assess and get hold of a situation like that, with her own two elderly parents (in their 80s) who said they could not take one more day of being shut in since early March. But, like this – – one friend of mine had her brother visit and he’s not careful about Covid and, sure, she made him wear a mask, but he was inside the house, they shared food & utensils, etc. She has a few vulnerabilities (underlying health issues); I thought this unwise but I kept my mouth shut. She hasn’t seen him since Christmas and needed him to help with some small tasks; sure, I get it. BUT. Big BUT.
And I feel other friends who continue to have their housecleaners come are also taking risks. Or like is this the time to have somebody come in and measure for new blinds and curtains? Could it wait? I know life has to go on, but I just feel like some things can be delayed. Like, I wouldn’t want to pay a window washer to be inside my house right now, but I know THREE people who’ve hired that service recently. I’d like cleaner windows, too, but the diff with me, is … I can wait. I know of people going stir-crazy who are now taking overnight trips and I wondered about bathrooms along the way, on the road, which reportedly have high levels of contagion; they just sorta shrug it off. Me? I’d rather take a shorter (much shorter!) day trip and use my own bathroom.
My husband was so ‘blue’ last week (I’ve been worried about him) with the news and the realization about so many months more of stay-home, saying “I didn’t sign up for this” but we got past it and have renewed commitment to pressing on and getting through to a better year, hopefully, in 2021 with an eventual vaccine, more immunity in the U.S. and, yes, a new national leader. We just have to all dig in, find our patience, and constantly remember that we can do this; we can get through the next hard months. We can. Keep the faith!
Nora in CT says
My sisters and I grew up in Southern California and even tho we were next door to a conservative military base, our community was largely liberal. And then my youngest sister married and Marine from Texas. They moved there with her two young sons and nothing’s been the same since. This sister was the most openminded of all of us in terms of tolerating people’s differences. Now she and her kids and grandson are liberal only in the sense that they throw around the “n” word like I use the “f” word. She blames Mexicans for screwing up her kids’ educations when bilingual classes began. She doesn’t like Trump but she is extremely defensive of the Republican Party–hello! Can’t have one without the other. On the other hand, my aunt lived in El Paso for 30 years in a conservative military town and kept her perspective. We have very good friends from the gulf of Texas up to Dallas and from El Paso to Beaumont, but it’s not a place I’d ever want to live despite it’s beauty and cultural diversity. Now let’s discuss Florida! LOL. Another state I will avoid at all costs from now on.
Vicki says
I lived on the Gulf Coast of Texas for three years in the 1990s. I really never ran into anyone who wasn’t nice and ‘normal’. My husband has retained some good friendships from the workplace in Houston. I didn’t mind being there except for the blistering-hot & humid weather. But I’m a SoCalif girl; I missed ‘home’.
But not another one of my cousins. ‘Born & bred’ SoCalifornian, she moved to Indiana ten years ago (retiree) and never looked back. I don’t do Facebook but apparently she has a large presence there and she is a major Trumper. Very vocal. It’s been very hard for her eldest son back in Calif because he’s a major ANTI-Trumper. (Pence of course is an Indianan.) I never noted anything of her conservative leanings until she moved to that state.
Claudia says
It’s insanity. You would think that after the huge outbreak in Texas people would be more wary. Hey, I get stir-crazy, especially lately after 5 months of this. But we’re not changing the precautions we take. These people and the people in Florida and the people jamming the beaches, and the idiots at the Sturgis motorcycle rally are going to extend this outbreak much longer. It makes me angry.
Thanks, Vicki. Stay safe!

I know. I don’t understand except that the Justice Dept. has some unofficial rule that a sitting president can’t be indicted. And the Justice Dept. is headed by Barr.

Hello Claudia,
We have had late mail as well. Mail that is due on a certain day is late by a few days with a message that it is delayed but will still arrive. UGH. Everyday for the last few years I have said “Oh my goodness, how can this be…?” Why I am surprised every time, I have no idea.
On a brighter note…Biden/Harris!! I have never purchased political “gear” before, but on the day they announced I went straight over to the Biden website and purchased buttons and t-shirts!! I am so excited!!!
There are four “Trump” stands within blocks of each other in our local area. They are in front of the grocery store, Costco, Trader Joes and Petsmart selling flags, shirts, etc. Next to the one in front of the grocery store were about a dozen Biden supporters with fun home made signs waving at the cars driving by. We honked in support. It was nice to see that no one was at the Trump stand, and, as I reflected upon this, I realized that I haven’t seen anyone at any of the Trump stands lately.
There are only two houses with Trump flags within our neighborhood. Our neighbor took down his Confederate flag. I haven’t noticed Trump bumper stickers lately, either. All of the “Trump supporters” on our local social media who had been loudly proclaiming their loyalty have quieted. I occasionally see someone saying they are “the silent majority.” After reading that paragraph you might think we live in a red state…no, this is Orange County, CA where we turned purple for the first time during the blue wave of 2018. I am feeling optimistic!
Last night I watched a few episodes of Gardeners’ World. I felt a deeper sense of calm than I have in ages. I was able to really watch the show and felt such peace.
Stay Safe, Claudia!
xo, Christy

Yes, that ‘silent majority’ thing is ridiculous because they are neither the majority, nor are they silent.
I well remember Orange County, though, from my San Diego days. It leans conservative and still has that reputation. But some purple is a welcome thing!

i was thinking about our country’s history and future, its strengths and all the things we are dealing with here and in the world right now and, with all that, never ever would i have thought this country could have a president with such blatant greed, corruption, laziness and sleaziness as pino has nor other elected “representatives” with such weakness and partisanship that our current congress has. ugh again.

on a happier note, i love “frazier” … so well written and well acted, laughed at every episode i saw … but that one about the hair dye stood out for me. made me laugh just thinking about it.
glad to be home. and hooray! my order from the mysterious bookshop arrived today! i ordered “the mysterious mr. quin” by agatha christie and plan to start it this weekend. thanks for the tip.

hej, brenda b!
thanks. i am thinking i will, helped in part because women in my family have read many of her books and watched shows like “miss marple” (sometimes i could watch it with them, too!). plus we are to get some rain tonight off and on through sunday and, if i can’t be out in the rain or with my family, reading a mystery at home on a dark afternoon or at night sounds real good to me! and you and claudia have good words about the books, too, so think i will enjoy this one (as long as i can stretch my attention span a bit!).
which ag books have you read lately?
hope you are well and safe and your family is, too. and your neighbors are as well. you live in an apartment building, too, right? (don’t answer if you don’t want to). i do and it’s going okay there. i hope and pray!
hope you enjoy your books and your weekend!

I never thought I would see our country come to this. Never.
Yay! You got your book from the Mysterious Bookshop! I think Christie is the perfect choice for you, Kathy. Enjoy!
Stay safe.

thanks, claudia. :)
i am more than ready to get reading back into my life. i haven’t read for a long time for not being able to concentrate much on just about anything, especially since february when we heard what was coming. plus, after working and sometimes then walking, i am worn out and just kind of sit and do nothing (or fall asleep) for stretches of time to let my mind wander. hope the weather this weekend will suitably cooperate so i get encouraged to stay inside on a rainy afternoon and read!
hope you and don have a nice weekend, too. and stay safe!

Tutored most of the day. Just stopped reading to read your blog. Just finished the Frazier with the hair dye. Irony. When I am stressed and exhausted, I go to favorites…told my granddaughter that this show makes me laugh out loud frequently. She was happy as she and sisters for me into Hulu and Netflix, and I am finding great shows I have never seen. I keep watching Frasier. Hilarious. Avoiding the junk in the world. Brenda b

Frasier – no matter how many times I’ve seen an episode – makes me laugh out loud. And boy, do we need that!
Stay safe, Brenda.

Having a debate with myself right now about whether I want to read Bob Woodward’s upcoming book, “Rage.” Just read Mary Trump’s and had read Woodward’s earlier one, “Fear.” There’s only so much of that stuff I can take. Concentrating instead on enjoying what’s left of summer and, when it’s either raining or too hot outside, working on my Prime watch list, which is getting very long.
Take care.
Kay

I was just thinking the very same thing because I have several of Bob Woodward’s books but somewhere in there, I was sure I’d read he was completely retired and had Alzheimer’s but, wow, I must totally be confusing him with someone else. I may just wait to see him interviewed on the news-chat shows, as they’re featuring quite a few authors who are writing about the state of America in these unprecedented times. Fascinating interview on TV a night or two ago with author Kurt Andersen, “EVIL GENIUSES The Unmaking of America: A Recent History”. I think it’s what I’m reading next.
Claudia says
I read Fear. I haven’t read Mary Trump’s book yet – mostly because my budget for books is small and I want to use it for fiction – but I’d like to read it. And then there is Michael Cohen’s book which I think I would find the most interesting!
Stay safe, Kay.

Behind on everything! First, three cheers on Kamala. I think she’ll be a good choice. She’s smart and tough, a great speaker and good campaigner and I’d trust her as pres if Biden couldn’t serve. Now, let’s vote!
Second — post office. Don’t start me. I had a long driveway conversation with my carrier yesterday and it’s a mess. He said it’s harder now for them to do their jobs than ever before, that mail is being so delayed, even certified isn’t getting out… and not surprisingly, it all started about three or four weeks ago.
Google — don’t start me on that, either! They are “upgrading” blogger (not sure you what you blogging platform is) and it is a mess. I’m able to work somewhat well because I blog on the computer but those with tablets are in a world of hurt in posting photos. The icons, finding past posts, the settings page — all weird and harder to access. I don’t know why they feel this is necessary but my theory is “you have to give people something to do or else why do you need them on your payroll.” If I had to hazard a guess, most who use blogger as their platform are older, 50+, and we aren’t as adept to change, nor do we care as much about icons instead of words for our commands. We (meaning me, but others I’ve heard) like the interface to be clear and obvious. It doesn’t have to be pretty as long as the blog itself looks nice. It just has to work. Right now…. I’m not so sure!

I started out on Blogger and after a few years, I moved the blog to WordPress and a host. But I still have a blog on Blogger (long defunct). I’ll see what they’re up to. I imagine Blogger is trying to stay competitive with WordPress and Square Space, etc. WordPress did an update that I didn’t like – a different kind of Editor – and I opted to remain with what is now called the Classic Editor. Improvements are fine but Blogger should give you the option of staying with the traditional operating system, as WordPress did.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

Friends of mine are disappointed in the appointment of Kamala Harris, but I think she is by far the most dynamic and forceful of all the candidates he considered. Back in the Kavanaugh hearings I was impressed by her assertive and intelligent questioning. She and Corey Booker had a lot of important things to say. And in this climate it’s vital that Biden, another old white guy who might just be losing it a little, selected someone strong and quick witted to counterpoint his sometimes slow and dated rhetoric. And of course a woman of color is desperately needed at this time. My choice for presidential candidate was never Joe Biden, but since he’s the best we Dems could come up with, at least we got a fire-cracker of a woman who makes me proud. About damn time!!!
Claudia says
I can’t imagine being disappointed in that choice! Everyone being considered, however, was extremely qualified and I would have supported any of them. I have been impressed with her questions of Kavanaugh, of Barr (she rendered him speechless) and her insistence on her time during hearings, especially when constantly interrupted by old white men. She’s a tough cookie who is compassionate – a great combination!
Stay safe.

Re:Kamala Harris – I was worried people unfamiliar with her might be disappointed in Biden selecting her. As you say, Claudia, she is a tough cookie, having been San Francisco District Attorney and then Attorney General of California.
Some also may have gotten the idea that she was extremely liberal – she’s not I think I have seen at least one article saying that Progressives are disappointed in her being chosen. I think she’s very even-handed. There is no doubt that she is qualified to become President. Going to miss her in California.
Relieved about your blog, too, Claudia. Thought I did something wrong – my ‘go to’ place.
Claudia says
No, it was the dreaded email problem! It seems to be working better now.
Thanks, Martha.
