Day One Hundred Fifty-Two

August 12, 2020 at 10:22 am by Claudia

One morning glory. And leaves being chomped on by some critter.

Everything I planted from seed  is growing slowly because of the drought.  So it was nice to see this little blossom this morning.

It’s very hot and humid here, though we managed to snag some time on the porch this morning. While we were out there, we could feel the humidity slowly increasing. I’ve never been a fan of humidity – that’s a given. It isn’t good for my allergies and I hate having to stay inside most of the day. It’s a big part of the reason I could never live in Florida or other parts of the South.

The big news: Hurrah! Kamala Harris! I’ve been secretly hoping that she would be Biden’s choice and both Don and I were thrilled when we saw the announcement. Of course, I would have supported anyone on that list, but Kamala? BRAVO!

It’s the first time in a long time that I’ve felt hope and excitement and boy, is that a nice feeling!

We’re in the middle of figuring out the logistics for the removal of the trees. We have that corral fence which is smack dab in the middle of the area in which they need to work. We just got off the phone with the owner of the company. The fence is pretty rusty and we’d already been thinking about taking it down; he confirmed much of it would have to be removed so they can get their trucks back there. I do want to keep the section nearest the house intact as it is part of the chicken wire fence garden and the memorial garden. Fingers crossed. They were going to start this afternoon (he called us at the last minute) but we’ve delayed it until we can remove these rusty sections of chicken wire and the posts.

Truthfully, I’m glad we’re delaying it a bit.

I’m not ready.

We did mow everything yesterday before it got too humid out there, even the back forty. Don got to do some mowing; he’s been missing working outside. Today is his last day of antibiotics and that’s a cause for celebration.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Well, I still envy you your morning glories—mine are the longest, lushest vines I’ve ever had, and without a single bud!

Finally celebrations!! One glorious morning glory survived. End of Rx makes everyone feel better. And Vice President Harris!! I’m a fan and I think Biden desperately needed some young, energetic, and bold. Like you, I feel a (tiny) flame of hope. BTW, just for laughs, I am making such a mess of my dollhouse project. I ordered a room box and it arrived and it’s too darned heavy for my husband or me to pick up. The post office workers helped him load it up. He was not happy. Next I found a perfect vintage deco bedroom set. It arrived and is 1/24 scale! LOL. I also ordered some pieces in 1/12 scale and a couple that were 3/4 scale. Talk about math failure!! Most of the sellers have been very understanding. Right now I have a 1/12 living room, a 1/24 fireplace and bedroom and a 3/4 kitchen. It will all sort out but I did get a laugh out of it. And it’s all your fault!!!! LOL. I hope you know I’m teasing. My sense of humor doesn’t always go over well. Stay safe, enjoy the moment of celebration and may there be many more.

The learning curve is steep when it involves a impulse shopper. Actually, I am taken with the 1/24 scale, perhaps because the I think I can manage to pick up a smaller house. It’s making me remember my childhood days when it didn’t matter if the doll bed was for a giant and the dresser was an inch tall pink plastic thing. We didn’t have doll-house dolls as such but somehow I recall a kind of “people” that “stood” on the couches. We three girls must have shared one “big” tin dollhouse because when I see them listed on ebay-/etsy they evoke a strong moment of good memories. And of occasionally slicing ourselves on the sharp edges. I know I’ve asked before, but can you point me to your mailing address? In my mad shopping I actually found something I wanted to send you, just for laughs. It isn’t big and it’s kind of tacky but it amused me no end. I know it’s a PO box, but if you email me the rest, that would be great. Thanks for the inspiration! Take care.

Just sent you the address. I have one house that I started to build a few years ago that is 1:24. After this one is finished, I’m going to get back to it. I have no more space here, so that size would be a good solution to lack of available space.

I had one of those tin dollhouses, as well. I always want to buy one when I see one in a vintage shop but, again, where the heck would I put it?

          Stay safe, Nora.

I’ve been telling my husband I hope he picks Kamala for weeks now. Funny how much something like this can lift your spirits, and, boy, can we use some spirit-lifting these days! Of course read this a.m. how Trump was already on Fox last night being racist and misogynistic. Quelle surprise.

We’ve been battling critters eating stuff in the garden too. The deer are the worst, of course, because they can do so much damage in one fell swoop. I’m concentrating instead on being able to enjoy watching the monarchs flitting among the milkweeds.

    Stay cool.

Very happy about VP choice, but worried since California has to find another good one to replace her in the Senate and probably not too far future another one.

I am watching the press conference that they are giving as I type this. It is amazing to listen to two intelligent people who actually know how to speak. And they don’t keep adding stupid side comments like “it is big. The biggest you will ever see.” “It is a good thing. So good you won’t believe it” not to mention that the Spanish flu was in 1917 ??? which ended WWII ??? They have stayed on topic and not one time talked about “me, me, me”. Oh, so refreshing and so tasteful and especially so hopeful. Now the idiot will mangle all they said and call them names and say the same awful crap he says day after day to wallow in the mud where he is so happy, little pig that he is.

I am glad you took a pause on the project so you can have a moment to gather your thoughts and plan what you will do. I know it will end up being quite lovely and you will indeed, make lemonade from those lemons!!

It was wonderful. I didn’t feel depressed and gross after listening to it, either!!!!!! That is common for me after listening to the idiot. I am so afraid to be hopeful, because for the past 3.5 yrs, every time I was, it was always dashed rather quickly. But, still, I am wishing and hoping…………

hooray and thanking God that don is making lots of progress!

and soon maybe our country will, too.

hope you and don take it easy, especially when working outside! i am not a fan of humidity (or high heat … for me, that’s anything over 75 degrees), either, and am grateful for air conditioning! been without power for two and a half days, no thanks to that derecho wind and rainstorm on monday. lots of people are still without power and it looks a bit like a war zone with huge trees down everywhere, but i am happy to say power is finally on at work and home and i can take a hot shower!

that flower looks like a super-bright light is shining through the center as you took that photo … beautiful!

hope you have a nice night and stay safe!

    meant to add …

this weekend, in driving various places, i saw something that i’m sure you and don have already considered … a tree stump cut level and with a concrete urn full of flowers on top. it was beautiful! maybe a way to honor your maple tree …? just a thought.

    have a good night!

We’ve done that with other trees that have come down. This tree won’t have a stump, however, as it’s half of a still existing tree/

      Thanks, Kathy.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
