Day One Hundred Sixty-Five

August 25, 2020 at 9:47 am by Claudia

I uploaded a photo, edited it, and was ready to insert it in my post when I realized I just used it two days ago. Life is a blur, my friends, in these days of viruses and the insanity of the leadership of our country.

I didn’t watch the convention but I did do some reading this morning. It sounds horrific and I’m not at all surprised. They have no platform, they warn about what the country will become under Dems and the video they use is what is happening NOW under the Orange Man. Still using “Make America Great” when they’ve had four years in power in which to do that very thing. They’ve failed on every level, so they have nothing to tout, nothing of hope, nothing of compassion, nothing of good.

You know how I feel. I despise the current GOP and everything it stands for. We are witnessing the last gasps of a party that Lincoln, if he were alive, would have absolutely nothing to do with. As Rick Wilson says, Everything Trump Touches Dies; #ETTD

Okay. Enough of that.

It’s humid today and we’ve been told we might have rain and storms. I’ll believe it when I see it, of course, but we sure could use it. Right now, as I write this, the sun has come out, so I’m getting more doubtful about the forecast by the minute.

I did a little work on the the dollhouse yesterday, sanding some of the interior surfaces and adding trim to the roofline. Today, I’ll paint the downstairs ceiling. Then I’ll have to make a decision about wallpaper. For some reason, I’m having trouble making a decision this time around. So it’s back to the drawing board. In the meantime, when I’ve finished painting the ceiling, I’ll start in on the wood floor downstairs.

I follow a lot of miniaturists and dollhouse enthusiasts on Instagram. I love seeing everyone else’s imaginative work. Though there are a slew of dollhouses that look exactly like the current white interior, subway tile, wood and white sofa craze (I tune out, just as I do when I see yet another feature in a magazine showing the same thing) there are a lot of original and funky and wonderful designs. It’s inspiring to see the work that others do. It keeps me very, very humble, to be sure.

I’m reading James Lee Burke and Don, who just finished The Underground Railroad, was so intrigued by my description of Hamnet  that he’s now reading it. Don usually reads nonfiction but the last three books he’s read have been fiction (with a historical reference).

Other than that, my friends, we’re hanging in there, giving ourselves chores and errands to run and books to read and meals to prepare in order to provide some structure to each day.

Stay safe.

Happy Tuesday.

I have learned something this morning I did not know. Not only Kamila Harris have a parent from India but so does Nikki Haley’s parents are from India. When it comes to doctors my favorite have been those from India. Dr. Arban in Berlin and the one I had in Bavaria. I wish I can remember his name. A little story about the one in Bavaria. I found it humorous when he said B”’sh” in English with his native accent as he would hit his desk. He was expressing his displeasure with someone who was suppose to help me with my healthcare.

We didn’t watch the RNC either…but I caught a few lowlights on the news this morning. What I don’t understand is the lack of a platform. So….what does the Republican Party even stand for?

And then there was yet another shooting of a black man in the back…Jacob Blake, in Kenosha. When will this insanity stop? And now the rioting has begun again. I am heartsick, and disgusted.

Finding structure in our days has been difficult. And, it’s been hard some days to come up with something. Actually, the easy days are when I have laundry to do…or bathrooms to clean. We did get storms last night, so no watering today either. What to do…what to do?

    Stay cool…stay safe! ;)

What a tragedy in Kenosha! And now to the streets of Madison. I am soooo happy my daughter doesn’t live downtown any longer as I would be a wreck. I totally agree with the protests, but I don’t agree with the vandalism and looting. Almost all of those businesses downtown are small businesses. So sad to see.

We must have been between the rain Madison received and the torrential rains they got north of us. We did not get even one drop. Take care, Donnamae!

Protesters, yes! But, there is never an excuse for looting and burning, and general destruction of property. I’m glad your daughter moved too. Things were just starting to settle down around the Capitol and State St., the boards were coming down, repairs were being made. What happened in Kenosha is a tragedy…I sincerely hope Jacob Blake recovers.

We only got about 1/3 “ of rain…most of it went east of us. But even a little bit helps these days. Stay cool and safe! ;)

      Lowlights – perfect.

The Jacob Blake shooting is indefensible. And his children were in the car. Sometimes I feel like I’m ready to give up on this country and move abroad. But I won’t.

No rain so far, but we’re under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 pm.

      Stay safe, Donna.

I cannot begin to understand this version of the Republican party. My only description is “unfocused and unhinged.” (That said, I do think I need to check in with Colbert and Seth Meyers!)

I look forward to seeing more from the dollhouse. It’s a wonderful activity these days — to immerse yourself into a world of tiny and beautiful.

I look forward to see what you decide for the new dollhouse. It is always so fun to watch it progress.

I couldn’t watch. However I saw a few clips this morning and it was disgusting. The people I saw spewing their hate were beyond disgusting. Now the Sec of State is going to speak (???) & that has NEVER happened at a convention. And what his wife has done to the beautiful Rose Garden should be punishable, also. Masses of white flowers. Wonder who decided that???? When he said he hoped it might be 12 more years I almost lost my breakfast. I think of all the flying around he is doing this week, the use of the White House for the GOP convention, and really have issue with my tax dollars being used that way….not to mention a family funeral last week. Yeah, I know “the campaign will reimburse”….. we all know how willing the tRumps are to open their wallets. Not to mention their hearts. How do these people not see how embarrassing and disgusting this all is????

And he advised all of his employees in the State Department NOT to do precisely what he is doing. What a hypocrite.

Melanie stripped the Rose Garden of any beauty. And she had the cherry trees chopped down, which is a crime.

      Stay safe, Chris.

OMG, I’ve been out of the loop on this. Can’t believe what you just revealed. Cherry trees in DC are sacred. Hasn’t the White House rose garden ALWAYS been sacred? WTH? Is this to coincide with the loss they know they’re going to have in November, so this is what they leave for Biden’s family as a F*!k You? Why would she do this NOW, at the end?

Everything associated with anything-Trump is BAD. Name me one good thing. Can’t!

Okay, so I went back to try to find some recent reading material on the subject of this garden and although it does sound like it needed some work, it’s apparently much less interesting (like blah, dull) than it was, and I thought I picked up on the fact that Mrs. Trump might have wanted to leave her mark knowing that indeed her time in the White House is nearly over. (I guess, in fairness, every administration changes SOMEthing, like wasn’t there a brouhaha when Mrs. Obama changed out the china?) Still … it’s said people will miss the traditional flowering crab-apple trees and brighter roses. I think this late in the game, she should have left it to Jill Biden, although I think Jill will admirably still be teaching her college classes.

The days are a blur. Groundhog Day only with KKK and Voter Fraud. It’s devastating. I asked my med nurse I I could up my psych drugs and she OK’d it. I hope the extra 50mg helps!! Is that coleus in your photo! It’s gorgeous! Instagram has banned me for life and I miss it! Step away from the invention. Watch His Gal Friday or Arsenic and Old Lace or Bringing Up Baby instead. I sort of meant step away as a jokey comment. My jokes are not always successful. I know and respect you for avoiding the horrible stuff that we can’t do anything about. I was probably speaking to myself more than to you since I’m not at following my own advice vis a vis politics.

But on a happier subject, I know you’ve mentioned seeing a bit of seasonal change in your garden. I was surprised the other day to notice a big patch of rather autumnly leaves on one of our local hills, and this morning, the sun is turning some of our canopy bright gold. I am so over the humidity this summer. It’s been too dry and everyone I know who gardens complains that critters have been unusually destructive this year. Wonder what they know that we don’t?

I finally got a few packages of miniatures and now after so many misses vs. hits, not sure I want to confront the contents. Will they be too big, too little, too hard to put together? Well, I will keep them in the “someday” box if not. The good thing about minis is that, except for the gorgeous dollhouses, the pieces store well. I’m glad you’re enjoying even the difficult decisions. Looking at doll wallpaper is one of my favorite things, alto in real life I detest wallpaper. LOL. Be well. XO

hope you get rain soon. we need it here, too. we’re in the middle of some hot days … 95 today. not a day for me to go out walking.

    that plant is beautiful!

glad you have books to read and dollhouses to plan for and work on.

i appreciate and enjoyed your office/dollhouse tour on instagram. interesting to hear your process and see all your progress! and your voice is so elegant and friendly!

i expect to be reading another short story in that agatha christie book instead of watching the democratic convention tonight. i am curious, though, about who – besides his wife and children – will speak up for him on national tv and fill up these four nights … but i am not curious enough to watch until he gives his speech on thursday night. won’t change my mind or my vote, though.

agree very much about structure. i remember thinking when i was a kid (like probably every other kid) about how great it would be as an adult to stay up late, sleep in, do whatever i wanted whenever i wanted, etc. … but it didn’t take long for me to learn that i function so much better when i keep to a schedule! sometimes that doesn’t fit with my impulsiveness, but by keeping certain routines, i get more things done and feel less stress and more happiness as a result. worth it!

okay. i need to wash the dishes before reading. best i do that before it gets much later.

hope you have a good night, sleep better and stay safe.

I like the idea of having nothing to do and that works if I’ve been extremely busy with work for an extended period of time. When I have nothing but time? It doesn’t work. Have to have a schedule.

Beautiful coleus! I usually have a bunch but limited my nursery trips early spring so none this year. We had over 2 inches of rain through the night and most of today and, boy, did we need it.

Dean and I are watching the convention because we’ve always been political junkies. This goes back to our time in DC when he worked as a lobbyist and his livelihood depended on knowing the ins and outs. Anyway, it’s awful, naturally. Full of lies and fear-mongering. And Kimberly’s shouty speech scared the crap out of our cat. My brother and I text snarky comments to each other and he makes me laugh and keeps my blood pressure low. But I don’t think I’ll make it all the way through Night 2.

Enjoy that sweet little park Don made for you and hope you get some rain too.

Oh, Kay, I almost spit out my ice water when I read that her speech nearly scared the crap out of your cat!!!!! Colbert, on his show the 1st night, hid under his chair when she was screeching. What in the world?? And if Junior wasn’t high on something, I am not sure WHAT was wrong with him. Maybe that is the only way he can face standing up there screaming out lies. I could not watch, but DID watch Colbert both nights so far. I knew I couldn’t watch his wife stand in the desimated Rose Garden or I would have cried.

I did hear that East of Madison you got much more rain than this side did. We didn’t get a drop. Take care!!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
