Since the news is ever horrifying; treason, COVID numbers shooting through the roof, idiots not wearing masks (you know I could go on and on,) let’s look at a photo of two little beings dining together for a brief moment:
And it was a brief moment. The moth was there first, then the bee landed and then…
The moth got worried about the lack of social distancing and took off.
I put in another three hours or so on the dollhouse stonework. I’ve reached the window, so one more session for this side of the house should do it. It’s so tedious. When I stop for the day, my muscles ache and I feel as if I’ve been released from hard labor. An exaggeration, of course, but it’s not my favorite thing to do. Nevertheless, I am determined to finish it.
Today is grocery pick-up day. I think our slot is at 3:00. More rain is forecast this afternoon with storms, etc. We ended up only having a light rain yesterday that lasted about 10 minutes and that was that. It’s very humid today, so I’m hoping we have more of those thunderstorms on the way.
But maybe not while we’re driving.
We’re watching Frasier now. We watched it several years ago on Netflix in its entirety. We are craving excellent writing, acting, and storylines written with wit and style. Cheers had that. Frasier has it. Both shows were blessed by wonderful cast members who created a strong ensemble. I grabbed my laptop yesterday to re-watch the final episode of Cheers, as it was disappearing from Netflix today. Impeccably executed, written, and acted. It hit the perfect note. and once again, I teared up as I was watching it. Almost every series I’ve written about lately, including Will & Grace, was shepherded and directed by the great Jim Burrows. Don worked with him onstage many, many years ago and Jim always remembered him and cast him in several of his television shows. He was also the force behind Taxi, and Friends. He is the son of the great Abe Burrows, known for his work on the books of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (for which he won the Pulitzer Prize) and Guys and Dolls. Talk about a talented family!
We’re saddened by the passing of the great Carl Reiner. There was no one like him. May he rest in peace. We are thinking about his family, about Dick Van Dyke, and about his best friend, Mel Brooks.
And finally, we are saddened to hear it officially: Broadway won’t reopen until 2021. We are not surprised, but hearing it announced by the Broadway League was depressing. That means that major regional theaters will also be dark until next year.
That means neither of us have work until well into 2021, nor have the hundreds of thousands of people who work in theaters, from set designers to box office staff. Unemployment benefits are running out here in the state of New York. What will my colleagues do? How will they survive? Actors can’t work from home. Singers can’t work from home. Dancers can’t work from home.
If I let myself think about this too much, my heart breaks into a thousand pieces.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

Yes indeed how will people live?
I know many people will say they should have put money away for a rainy day but many do not even have a living wage.
So many elderly living on only social security without pensions.
What kind of country are we becoming?
Claudia says
And most actors are out of work more than they work, so how does one save money? They work catering jobs or bartending jobs to survive and those aren’t happening, either. We’ve never been able to save much money – we live, like so many others, hand-to-mouth. Stay safe, Linda.

Hi Claudia,
I wish I could send you our rain ….. it hasn’t stopped! Our gardens are starting to look a bit waterlogged, our rain barrels keep overflowing and we have to release some of the water, and our great plans to finish our landscaping this year are dwindling. But we’re happy to be home and healthy. Sun is predicted for the weekend and we’ll be lapping it up, once it arrives!
I’m so sorry Broadway will be closed for a while longer. Our theatre community here is as well though many in the community are starting to figure out creative ways to still be performing. We’re going ahead with our music festival but it will be virtual. So sad we won’t be seeing Wicked this Summer as the tour was cancelled of course. Feeling so sorry for our acting friends, our musicians, techs, writers, producers. We are encouraged to learn a vaccine here has been approved for trials that will start in about 2 weeks. Fingers crossed it is successful and one day, we can all gather together again, healthy and without worry!
Wishing you a lovely day. We’re off to figure out how to celebrate Canada Day without the big community party!
X Chy
Claudia says
It’s hard to find ways to perform for money, especially in the greater NYC area. People are performing, but it’s all on social media.
Fingers crossed, indeed, that a vaccination comes as soon as possible.
Happy Canada Day, Chy! Stay safe.

I am truly sorry to hear about Broadway not reopening til next year, and what that all encompasses. How will people live indeed!
There is so much disturbing news right now…I feel a bit overwhelmed by it all. You would think that by now, we’d be used to it….but, the news continues to shock. So, thank you for the pic of the bee and the moth. At least in one part of our world there is normalcy.
Happy grocery pick-up. Stay safe! ;)
Claudia says
I think the business with Russia and our soldiers is next level shocking. It is tantamount to treason.
Yes, I’m happy to find any normalcy that I can nowadays! Stay safe, Donna.

During this isolation, I finally watched the Frashier shows…Friends shows… I laughed until I could not laugh anymore…so funny. I had never seen the former, but I had seen a few of the latter. Hope we get some rain soon…having some family health problems now…some other things going on. I will not say WHAT next? I avoid all social media including the news except a couple of blogs. It is all so stressful. Am trying to get the nerve to do some doc appointments and some tests that I have put off. I keep saying next month. Thank you for writing daily and keeping in touch. Many of my friends have called to check why I have texted or emailed…my daily chores and hobbies…home schooling on Facetime-keeps me going. Take care…enjoy your doll house. brendab
Claudia says
I’m sorry there are family health problems, Brenda. Another worry in an already worrisome time. Take care of yourself and stay safe!

What a pretty photo. The bee and the moth. At times, I am as busy as a bee. Other times, I flit aimlessly like the moth wondering where to land. i watched both of your videos. You have such a lovely voice and I found the walk through the woods quite calming. Thank you for that. I hope that you and Don are able to financially manage through these hard times. It would be a tragedy if you had to move from your lovely home and property. Several of our family members are terrified that they will lose their homes. They don’t have any idea if or when they will ever return to work. But there is one saving grace here in Michigan. There is a moratorium on evictions and foreclosures for a few months. I keep praying every day that somehow they all find new employment. Stay safe and God bless.
Claudia says
We have enough in pensions to pay for our mortgage, Nancy. Food is another story! I’m so sorry for those who are really up against it. I will say that if this had happened 10 or 12 years ago, we would most likely have lost our home. That knowledge makes me feel for everyone who struggling to pay their mortgages, to pay rent, to feed their families. It’s utterly heartbreaking. Let’s send prayers out there for supply and all needs being met. Stay safe.

Oh, the news. I wake up daily thinking nothing could be worse than yesterday, and it happens every single day lately that it actually IS an even worse day. And then we have the stupid “leaders” who refuse to encourage mask wearing, and won’t wear themselves, and won’t shut down indoor restaurants, and sit at a rally WITH A CONCERT (!!???) and on and on and on. It seriously hurts my head with their stupidity. With the Pandemic spreading worse than before, the Senate goes on vacation. The absurdity is astounding. Even the moth and the bee have more sense than most people appear to have.
Everyone ~~ stay safe, stay home, and for goodness sake, if you have to go out, wear a mask.
Claudia says
All of this for a man who will never be satisfied, who always needs more and more attention – risking the health of the very people he is supposed to protect.
I echo your final sentence, Chris. Stay safe!

Hello… we are so fortunate to be able to turn off the news and go outside in our own little world and watch the butterflies and dragonflies and whatever is blooming! Even the birds seem to be enchanted with us watching them do their thing. Have you noticed how clear the sky is since there have been less flights!
Take care…
Claudia says
Yes, it’s beautifully clear. Stay safe, Kelly!

Scary times indeed. Politics, health, economic stress, law enforcement snafus–what a time in which to live. Still, there are candidates who speak cogently rather than tossing a word salad; the news about vaccines continues hopeful; my city is compliant about masks and social distancing so I can hope our numbers go down and some of our small businesses can continue; and the continued marches warm my BLM-loving heart.
I can’t help hurting for those whose employment woes are on-going. My upheavals feel insignificant in contrast. I do what little I can and wish it was more.
Stay strong.
Claudia says
Thank you, Roxie. Difficult times with lots of worries. We muddle through!
Stay safe.

sorry to learn that off/on broadway will be closed for many more months and all that means for you, don and so many other people … heart-breaking. will keep praying for you all.
most of the other news is still scary and sad, too … and some is disgusting and cause for impeachment and jail as far as i’m concerned … so i’m glad you spent time working on the dollhouse (hope your back/muscles feel better by now) and watching the “cheers” finale again and some “frazier”. both shows could make me laugh out loud … think i need to find somewhere to watch them again.
love the photos of the moth and the bee. might make a good story …
i am happy to say that a person i work with … who just yesterday yelled at me about not being afraid of getting sick … was today wearing a mask. hooray! only about 90 % more to go (seriously). also, today marked 21 years at that job. :0
didn’t get to paint last night so going to do some tonight for sure.
hope the grocery pick-up went well and that you all have a nice night and stay safe!

Claudia says
I’m happy to hear that your co-worker has seen the light and is now wearing a mask. Congrats on 21 years at your job!
Get some painting time in and stay safe, Kathy.

I feel for the theater folks, and the ballet companies, and the regional opera groups – all the arts. I’m afraid it’ll take years for so many companies to recover if they’re able to at all. All these states with cases going up, prolonging this all because we have no leadership at the top. No national policy like all the EU countries had who are now getting back to normal. I feel like all of this completely negates what those of us who stayed at home and were so careful did. And still the bars in this state are open as I type this.
When he happened to phone today, we told our oldest we are now entertaining him or his brother next weekend. We just can’t take the chance. He understood. The other one plays his indoor concert tonight so we’ll let him and his girlfriend know tomorrow. I just feel so bad my own children make me anxious to be around.
On the positive side, the humidity lifted this afternoon and I’m sitting outside listening to the birds right now. Our new normal also includes listening to the sound of the inflatable bouncy house our new neighbors put in their backyard and the joyous shouts of their 4 little girls. In other times, I would walk over and chat with mom and dad. At least being outside and able to listen to the sounds of other families helps keep us from feeling so isolated like in March and April.
Take care,
Kay

hej, kay …
i know someday things will get better, but now is really hard and i’m so sorry you and your kids can’t spend the holiday or any day together right now. i can relate … not with children (i don’t have any), but with my family. and i hate that … because i love and miss them so much.
and you are right … the lack of a coordinated national plan (including the mandatory wearing of a mask in public) and anything close to positive, honest and uniting leadership from the top just makes it worse.
but i do know in my heart that things will get better. can’t happen soon enough, huh?
hope you have a good holiday and stay safe!

I’m so sorry that we are in the middle of something that keeps you from your family. But I do think you made the right decision, Kay. It’s bittersweet. Hang in there. Stay safe. Someday we’ll all be back together again.

Oh Claudia, I am so deeply sorry about the Broadway situation. I heard that too and thought of you and some of my other friends. I have a feeling there will be a whole lot of people looking for something, anything, they can do.
I’ve been down about Carl Reiner since I heard. I loved him in Show of Shows and all the Caesar stuff and then my all time favorite comedy, Dick Van Dyke. I was watching a few clips from the show, including my fave, where Mary Tyler Moore must go in to apologize to him for saying he was bald on national television. Perfection — the writing holds so well it could be done today with the same scripts (and most of the same clothes — maybe an update for Rose Marie!) I can’t think of many that fit so timelessly.
I never knew Jim Burrows was Abe’s son. Makes sense, though! And that dollhouse is going to just rock!
Claudia says
It’s such a strange time. We’re feeling the pinch financially as are so many others. It will only get worse for so many.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

Wonderful photos of the moth and bee! I love how you captured the energy of the moth’s graceful exit, stage left. XO. Just when we need talented entertainment more than ever, it is disappearing. Can’t help thinking about how the Broadway musicals and movies kept up spirits during the depression. It’s good that we have more access to older great film/stage art, but devastating knowing that those who work before and behind the curtain, the technicians, costumers, set designers, coaches, more tasks than I can enumerate, will be out of work. Their specialized skills are not easily transferrable even in a great economy. It is heart breaking. Once again, I thank you for addressing the dire issues as well as sharing with us moments of beauty.
Claudia says
You’re right. We have very specialized skills and they can’t be done without others, in person, right there with us.
Thanks, Nora. Stay safe.

Have been so busy – just caught up with three of your entries. Some lovely photos. Loved the hollyhock and flowers with bee and moth. Also your doll’s house. Spending time to ensure quality will always make you proud of the finished item. Time well spent.
Must say that we have a very weak state premier who has allowed all sorts of things to happen in his state, and now we have a state (not ours) with more new virus numbers than our first time. Some states have closed doors to them, but one person got through into our state who was supposed to be in lockdown in this other state, and a supermarket is now closed with 50 staff let alone all the customers who they may have infected……..what idiots we have in our land. I just wonder where all of this will end……. I’m getting sick and tired of the selfishness which is evident in all of our country. Those marches and a lack of mask-wearing have begun a new wave of the pandemic.

Don’t forget the musicians! We are right there with you (as in unemployed). Loving your gorgeous photos and garden news as always. Stay well xo

Claudia says
Oh, I don’t forget the musicians! Frankly, I had to stop because if I listed everyone in the arts, it would have taken 3 or 4 posts, it’s that devastating. I’m sorry you are unemployed. It sure isn’t easy, is it? Stay safe.
