Day One Hundred Thirteen

Short and sweet today.

I met this guy for the first time on this date, 26 years ago.

(I also cut his hair way too short yesterday, but we’ll move on from there. And no, it’s not this haircut.)

You’ve all read these posts of mine before. So I’ll be brief. He’s the best thing that ever happened to me and I acknowledge that gift every single day. I’m very lucky.

Here’s to 26 more years together, my love.

I’m not a flag waver. Actions speak louder than words or symbols. These days the Fourth of July is a celebration of the day we met. When things change in Washington and we once again can honestly say that in this country, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” I’ll be celebrating and dancing in the streets.

    I think he looks great with that short hair. And we have a guy in the neighborhood who looks like he has had his head shaved after his wife gave him a haircut. My husband does his own, thankfully.

    I think we have been planning on someday dancing in the streets for about 3.5 years now. And those hopes continue to be dashed. Someday………. oh, how I hope.

    My husband proposed to me 49 years ago today!! It makes it an easy to remember date for me! (and our 48th anniversary was on Don’s BD). It is so worth celebrating the day you met the love of your life. Oh, and hair grows back!!

    I love hearing all these stories (comments here on the blog from readers). Fourth of July seems to be an earmark for a lot of ‘anniversaries’ and celebrations other than the birth of our dear, wounded country. For me, it was 46 years ago today that I bought my first car, my dad by my side giving me advice about it, which still sits on my driveway just waiting to be driven and taken out on the highway (she can’t drive 55; was designed to go fast … ahhhh, that was the day when Ford knew how to build a car…) but, in the meantime, happiest day to you and Don, Claudia, and I’m sure he looks his usual handsome self; will be nice & cool for hot summer days!

      It’s also the anniversary of Don’s marriage proposal: four years later on July 4th, 1998. We were married that October.

      I grew up in Ford Motor Company land, so I am well versed in Ford and its employees and its world headquarters, etc.

    Happy anniversary of your first meeting. I sometimes think remember that day is more important that the wedding anniversary. I know I’ll never forget it. I’m sure he easily forgave you the haircut. It’s summer anyway, so shorter the better.

    My sweet guy signed up to stream Disney + the other day just because he knew how much I wanted to see “Hamilton.” We watched last night and it was just superb. I plan to watch it many more times so $6.99 well spent.

      Don always says it’s the most important anniversary.

      So glad you got to see Hamilton. I saw it on Broadway and it was groundbreaking – like nothing I’d ever seen before. I’ll never forget seeing it. I want Don to see it too but we don’t have Disney plus. He doesn’t seem to care at the moment, but I’d like to see it again.

    I like your Fourth of July much better than the official holiday. As I told someone today, it’s my least favorite holiday. Even Yom Kippur is better. Too many fireworks and this year not a lot of which to be proud of in our country.

    You have a lot to celebrate on the 4th. Congratulations! You both hit the jackpot. As for Independence Day in the US, for several years now, even before you know who, this “holiday” was increasingly difficult for me. This year especially. What a waste to commemorate an event which resulted in almost complete erasure of a population and culture who lived here first. Especially since the event is supposed to honor liberty. I hope the the forced step back from Covid will result in real, lasting changes in terms of our definition of liberty. Thanks for reminding us what we should be celebrating by our actions all the year thru.

      I completely agree. We decimated the population of American Indians that were here before us. Many of the framers of the Constitution owned slaves. The Trail of Tears. And on and on.

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.
