How easily my routine gets thrown off! I have to go pick up groceries this morning, but before that I have to get gas as my car is almost on empty. I haven’t pumped gas since this whole thing started. Don has been the one to do that. But since my honey is still ill, I will have to be the one to gas up. Anyway, a new experience for yours truly while in lockdown is on the docket for this morning and it was only just now that I realized I had to write this post before I go.
I’m thrown, I tell you!
Don was downstairs until about 3:00 yesterday afternoon. Then he felt utterly exhausted and went back to bed until dinner time. We watched Frasier (including one of the two episodes Don appeared in – that was fun!) and then I tucked him into bed. I keep reminding him that feeling stronger takes some time. He misses his morning walks, so I encouraged him to go outside and walk our driveway and the trail up in our woods (just one loop) and he’ll feel better. A short bit of time outside will help him. He just left, broad-brimmed hat covering his head, as doxycycline carries warnings about being in the sun while taking it.
I’ve been cooking dinner for over seven nights now. I look forward to the day when Don resumes his chef duties, as he’s much better at this than I.
It’s quite beautiful out there right now. It will reach 89 today, but I think the humidity will be lower. Fingers crossed.
I realize this isn’t all that newsy, but life lately has been about taking care of Don, suffering through my own bout of allergies-from-excess-humidity yesterday, and staying cool. One good thing; Don had a good night of sleep last night, he slept a lot. And that’s just what he needs now.
Stay safe.
Happy Tuesday.

Glad to hear Don is feeling a little bit better and stronger.
I’m interested to hear what you’ve been making for dinner every night, especially since you and Don are vegetarians. As you know, I’m a flexitarian – I do eat some meat – but I like to eat a lot of meatless meals, especially in the summer when it’s hot and I don’t want anything heavy. Unfortunately, the only bean I can somewhat digest is black beans and I can also tolerate a little hummus, but that’s it. We also mostly stay away from soy since it’s a hormone disruptor, but we will eat organic tofu once in awhile. So any ideas are greatly appreciated! Sometimes we will eat a simple dinner of roasted potatoes and several vegetables, which we might do tonight.

I am asked this occasionally and I really have nothing to offer, except the fact that we eat a lot of vegetables and salad and we love the entrees from Gardein. When Don was first ill, he didn’t have much of an appetite, so we went to his request (which happened to be my favorite meal when I was single and poor) a baked potato and steamed broccoli. It’s still my favorite!
Stay safe, Melanie.

LoL, Claudia…none of our lives are newsy these days. For example…I’m on a break from weeding, so thought I’d check in. The news around here? We’re hanging in there…and our yard never looked better.
It’s nice to hear that Don feels well enough to venture out on your paths, just being outside will do him a great deal of good, I’ll bet. You’ve had a rough few days lately…so after your errands, I hope you get to relax. Take care! ;)
Claudia says
Same here. Nothing exciting. But we’re hanging in there, as well.
Thank you, Donna.
Stay safe!

Glad to hear Don is feeling better, exhaustion is hard to overcome and had for some to understand. I had pneumonia many years ago and found it difficult to pull apart two socks from dryer after someone ( husband ) forgot to add fabric sheet. It was sad but very funny too. What episodes did Don appear I would love to see them? Still cannot get over the horror of Louise on fire. So sad all that work and plans. Stay cool and be safe.
Claudia says
This particular episode was Season Three – episode two, I believe. He’s also in the episode where Shelly Long appears – the title escapes me, but I know it’s something like The One Where Diane Comes Back.
So, so sad about Louise. What a nightmare. My heart goes out to them. Stay safe, Mary!

We tend to berate ourselves for napping and resting when we are adults. It is really silly to do so when a nap actually helps us. Many afternoons I doze off for 10 or 15 minutes and feel renewed. There is nothing else going on, each day seems pretty much as the previous day, so I am not feeling guilty about it at all. If that is the “worse thing” I do in a day….. it is a pretty darn good day!!
A walk down the driveway is another way to renew and refresh! But a rest following the journey won’t hurt, either. I imagine you will be very happy when Don is ready to take over his chefly duties once he feels better. And Frasier time is always a fun time spent! Hope the grocery pick up and follow-up wipe down went well!!
Claudia says
I often doze off for about 10 minutes. It does help.
Grocery shopping was okay and pumping gas went well too. But I’m always stressed and tired when it’s all done.
Stay safe, Chris.

I hope Don is feeling better soon. He sounds like the nicest man in town. We could all use one just like him. Don, hope you get well soon.
Claudia says
He is. He is.
Thank you, Jan. Stay safe!

Very glad Don is feeling better!
Crazy question- I remember a while back you ordered a sofa. Where did you get it from? I’ve been looking at Wayfair and Birch Lane but am a little nervous about just ordering one online without a recommendation.
I know you’re busy so if you can’t get back to me I understand.
Stay well!
Claudia says
We got in online via Interior Define. The reason I used them was because they had the exact kind of sofa I wanted. But they were very helpful.
Thanks, Betsy. Stay safe!

Thank you, Claudia!!

Hi Claudia, it’s hot and dry here in central MD and my garden is quickly becomming a bust. We have not had measureable rain in our guage in a couple weeks and the temps have been reaching into the upper 90’s every day. Today was only 97 and our grass is brown and crunchy. That makes me grouchy.
I know, I have a lot to be thankful for…
Claudia says
We’re supposed to get some thunderstorms this afternoon. I’ll believe it when I see it! We need rain.
Yes, the heat and the high temps make me very grouchy! I understand.
Stay safe, Kelly.

Maybe not too newsy but good to know that he is improving. Now YOU have to take care, too! Allergies are wretched!
Hang in, Claudia. Next week will be better.
Claudia says
My allergies have been kicking my butt since early spring. I’m over them!
Thanks, Jeanie. Stay safe!

These days pumping gas and going to the grocery are the most exciting things we do. Most of the time I live in dread of someone asking me “what’s new?”
Take care.

Claudia says
Same here. I made it through the pumping gas experience and was just fine. Oh, the excitement!
Stay safe, Kay.

glad to hear that don is making more progress. bet that walk outside felt good! hope you both feel completely better soon.
more “groundhog days” here, too … except that i have tomorrow off as a day of vacation. :) going to bed soon because i have a long to-do list and am determined to get up early and get things done! not the most fun way to spend the day, but it will feel good to get them done.
hope you are keeping cool and safe.

Glad you have a day off. Even if it’s filled with chores, getting them done will be satisfying!
Stay safe, Kathy.

Having tablet troubles at the moment. Samsung couldn’t fix it directly, but they gave me another alternative which is fine now. As things age they don’t always age well, and have to have compromises – my older body understands that!!!!
I have to say just how delightful was yesterday’s photo of white flowers. An amazing photo and I really enjoyed it. Thanks.
Give my best to Don! Glad he is improving.
Wish we had a little of your heat as this is a really cold, cold winter for us. I hate it this cold but realise that others get it colder than us. Your houses are built for it whereas ours aren’t. Could do with more insulation in the walls.
Claudia says
Thank you, Robyn! Glad you like the photo. It’s one of my limelight hydrangeas.
Stay safe!

Day by day. For so many reasons, I am reminded of this more often lately than ever before. I know for many it’s hour by hour. It’s good to hear that Don is improving. I think I’ve only pumped gas twice doing this pandemic…I don’t drive a lot anyway, but wouldn’t you know when gas is at its cheapest, I don’t need as much as when it was $4+. I feel like I’d like to stock up as if it were a white sale. I have to bite the bullet and start to get a hold of the plumber to fix a few small issues…not that thrilled with having a worker in the house, but it’s only one person (I expect, maybe his daughter too) and I’m sure he will wear a mask. In the midst of all the upheavals with your routine and worry about your love, thanks for keeping us in the loop. Stay well!
Claudia says
I know; ironic that gas is cheap and we’re hardly going anywhere!
Thanks, Nora. Stay safe.
