I sat out on the porch this morning and listened to our neighboring bullfrog, who has been very vocal lately. I find that sound very comforting.
This will be quick. Don’s fever and chills came, went, and came back again yesterday more times than I can count. We decided he should schedule a video appointment with his doctor and that happened around 2 pm. Thankfully, when Don explained his symptoms, his doctor went ahead and prescribed some Doxycycline, although at some point Don will have to go in for a Lyme test. I drove to the pharmacy, which has curbside pickup, and then hightailed it home. He felt miserable throughout the evening and into the night, sweating through this shirt and the sheets. But this morning, I’m seeing some signs of improvement. Nothing huge yet, but his voice has more energy and he didn’t have a fever when he got up. He’s back in bed now, but he’s listening to his morning meeting on the phone, so that’s a good sign.
We routinely check each other for ticks after we’ve been working outside. About a week and a half ago, he found a tick on his arm. It was attached but by the time I saw it, it wasn’t engorged, so we figured it hadn’t been there long enough to do any damage. No bullseye that we could see. Of course, there’s also the possibility that we could have missed a tick bite somewhere.
This has been very worrisome and continues to be, though I’m feeling a bit lighter this morning.
Anyway, that’s the latest. He’s pretty weak, which is completely understandable given what he’s been through. This is a guy who would never stay in bed unless he felt utterly miserable. I slept downstairs again last night and will probably do it again tonight.
I’ll keep you informed. I hope you don’t mind, but I really don’t have the energy to respond to comments. I’ll get back to that very soon. Thank you all so much for your good wishes. They mean a great deal to us.
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.

Ticks are terrible. We had tons this spring. We had them attached to us, coming in the house on our clothes, and riding in with the dog. We found a natural spray and covered our yard with it. I think it is just a repellent and our yard smelled like spearmint for a day. It certainly didnβt scare off many other bugs. You have far too much βnatureβ for it. I just hated the thought of something on me all the time. Hope Don feels better soon.

You two were on my mind all day yesterday after I read your post.
I’m glad Don got an antibiotic and seems a bit better.
I have also heard that a tick needs to be engorged and on you for quite awhile to transmit lyme. I wonder if having had lyme in the past makes a difference?
We do have ticks here too and have gotten more careful in the past couple years. Our neighbor has guinea hens and they often roam over to our yard. They eat ticks. We are always happy to have them come over for lunch.
I hope you both have a peaceful rest and recovery day.

We’ll be here. Take your time and do what you feel up to. These are worrisome times and magnify things that even under normal circumstances take their toll. Get some rest and know many are thinking about you both. π
kathy in iowa says

So sorry for you and Don. My mom and dad have both have had Lyme . My dad has it probably over 30 years ago and had the classic symptoms and received treatment right away. My mom did not and tested negative for a while but ultimately tested positive and also got the right treatment. They both recovered fully. I hope he feels better soon. Lyme is certainly the scourge of living in northeast!

So sorry to hear that you’re fighting Lyme disease! Ticks are horrible little critters. Glad you caught it early. One of our grandsons contracted that when he was quite young, but he’s fine now thankfully.

Sorry Don is going thru this, but good that he’s on antibiotics & on the road to feeling better. My son just finished his antibiotics given for lyme. He had the high fever, chills & severe nausea with vomiting. Thankfully the bullseye showed up on his leg so we knew it wasn’t covid. Either way- still worrisome stuff to deal with.
Kay says
Hope the antibiotics do the trick and Don feels much better soon. You both take care.

I hope Don feels better soon. If he doesn’t, please call the doctor back right away. Last summer, my husband left for work in the morning feeling fine except we thought he had gotten bitten by a spider (red welt on back of leg). He called me 2 hours later saying he thought he had a fever and felt weak; stopped at a minute clinic and had a 102 fever. They advised him to go to the ER. He ended up in the hospital for 7 days with Lyme. Fortunately, he recovered and has not had a relapse. I am a nurse and have pulled lots of ticks off our kids and us. That welt did not look like a tick bite. Be vigilant. Prayers and good thoughts for Don’s recovery and for you the caregiver. Big hugs.

Best wishes for recovery and rest for you both.

Man, I’ve been thinking about you two SO much! Glad to see your post and that the doctor weighed in, medicine prescribed. Worry makes you fatigued; rest up, hydrate, lay low for a few days, rebuild yourself a little from the setback; sounds like all is going to be okay now. Whew.
Vicki says
I meant that for both of you. Sick patient and also concerned caregiver having to take charge.
Sandy says
Don’t worry about commenting back, you have enough going on. Know you are taking good care of Don ,but take care of yourself too. Hope the medicine helps !
Nora in CT says
Lyme, Covid, EEE, West Nile, etc. I can’t help but think the earth is telling us to get the F off! I’m glad you could get Don’s medicine. I know you will continue to take good care of him, but also remember to care for yourself as well. Love you both!
