Day Seventy-Nine

May 31, 2020 at 9:38 am by Claudia

Heavens, it’s so beautiful out there today that I threw a jacket on and started taking pictures at about 7:15. The play of light and shadow was simply gorgeous.

It’s much cooler today. The birds are singing, it’s relatively quiet (we live on a busy road) and Don has already taken his morning walk. We’re now on our second cup of coffee.

We mowed yesterday – it was especially tiring as the grass was very long due to the rain we’ve had. But it sure looks pretty now! Next up (probably tomorrow) the corral and the back forty. I think we’ll take a break today.

We have declared today to be a break from all news. We will relax, do whatever brings us joy, and that’s it. That’s more than enough.

I am always grateful for my home, though we pay a hefty mortgage. To us, it’s worth it. I am blessed with a shelter that I love, with gardens and paths through our woods (all of which we have created) and all sorts of wildlife. It’s never more beautiful here than it is in May and June. One of the gifts of the lockdown is a renewed appreciation for simple things. For this fleabane that is blossoming all over the property. For the play of light and shadow in the living room and kitchen. For the yarrow that has self seeded up in the corral. For the view of the mountains. For quiet time together sitting on the glider. For books to read. For Peet’s Coffee. For the wee little buds on the hydrangea, just beginning to emerge. For the chance to rescue a wasp that had flown inside the house this morning. For flowers and trees and wildflowers. For bird song. For the things we love and collect which surround us every day. For my husband, the greatest gift I have ever received. For my family. For my sister and nieces and nephews. For the lovely conversation that I had with my brother’s eldest child the other day. (Her daughter is graduating from Boston University – a place I know and love.) For the play of light on the antique dollhouse which I can see from my chair in the den.

For all of you.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

    love your list.

i’d like to add a partial list of my own, please: God, my family (the people and the animals), friends … including you and others gathered here, the means to visit one way or another, cars and homes for all of us, indoor lighting and indoor plumbing (was thinking about relatives in minnesota, which led to thoughts of happy times at their cabin way up north … which had no indoor plumbing), health and safety, forgiveness, having plenty of food and, thankfully, no peanut m+m’s, supplies to paint and knit, other people’s creativity in music and art, nature (including the lovely view out my windows) and changing seasons, books and the ability to read and write, colors and sunlight and rainy days, today …

thanks for letting me put that here, claudia.

hope you, don and everyone else have a good, easy day and stay safe and well!

Yes, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy your little piece of Paradise. And thank you for sharing. We’ll be cleaning, storing, packing up and already missing ours, a little. From the screaming loonies to the wailing loons. Heading to another, greener, more rural place very soon.

My same sentiments today. I need to tune out . It’s just too overwhelming. Going to plant some more flowers & veggies today & appreciate everything abit more today. I’m totally worn out from everything. Be well, Claudia.

Lovely post today Claudia. I had just now finished a little meditation of my own as i do most days. Consciously listing garden, books, Peets this morning with my husband. But I fell out of my chair laughing when I read “rescued a wasp” cause I had done that as well.Too funny!

We are much on the same page today, Claudia. Avoiding news. Celebrating a gorgeous, not-too-hot or cold day, and being very grateful for all the things that we have that make our lives so very worth living.

What a lovely refreshing post. There is more to the world than what is going on. Those flowers. I have not seen anything like them in our neck of the woods…….. lovely.

It’s very nice to see the beautiful photo of your yard and to also hear you count your blessings. You are lucky that you can do that; it’s very admirable and really healthy. Last day of May; I’m glad it was lovely for you and Don both; pleasant Sundays are healing.

We are lucky that we can step back and avoid the overwhelm for a little while. (I took a break for a few hours last night.) but there are so many who don’t have that advantage, who live with this 24/7 … so I have taken what action I can this morning, in addition to my church’s services of lament that are happening today online (usually it’s morning and evening prayer).

Yes, we should all take action. But we should also take care of ourselves. It can be done! Stay safe, Leanne.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
