Day Seventy-Two

May 24, 2020 at 9:42 am by Claudia

We had the best day yesterday. It rained all day long, but it was a gentle rain. The windows were open, the sound of the rain was lovely, I worked on my puzzle – and got a lot of it done – and – oh yes, I forgot – the haircuts.

Don drove over to Rick and Doug’s to pick up the necessary equipment. He already knew all the information as to the guard settings. He’s an actor. Actors get haircuts, sometimes on set, sometimes for a play, sometimes on the road. He wrote down those settings a long time ago and carried them in his wallet because he knew he’d need them.

When he came back we watched a video that was extremely helpful, dragged a stool into the bathroom, and I started cutting his hair. I was a bit hesitant at first, but I quickly decided to just go for it. Don’s hair, I discovered, grows in several different directions, which makes the process more complicated. It’s not perfect by any means. There’s one tiny bare batch by his ear, for example, but all in all, I was pleased and Don was even more pleased.

Before (you know Don just had to stage this photograph) –

And after:

A little ‘product’ doesn’t hurt, either.

He cut my hair, as well. It’s was just a bit uneven at the sides, but I tweaked it and it feels so much better! He took off at least four inches. It had become way too long. Thank you, husband!

We were quite proud of ourselves! There will be no divorce court, it seems.

The puzzle:

I finished the dark buildings, much of the scene on the terrace, and some of the figures to the right. And I found three pieces that I was convinced were lost or not included. As in a lot of puzzles, especially this impressionist painting, the actual piece didn’t look like I had envisioned it. But when inserted, it made sense.

We had vowed to take it easy yesterday, but we ended up not taking it easy. So today, we are following through with that vow.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

It’s a good thing, studying that painting/puzzle. You’ll have an intimate knowledge of it lodged in your brain. I learned that while making my Starry Night rug a few years ago—this is right next to that, that happens right here, and over there is that bright slash of yellow…

I’ve had my eye on a Matisse for a while. Maybe this year.

Wow – great haircut. Helpful hint: I cut my husband’s hair outside, easier cleanup. But, it didn’t come out nearly as good as yours.

Oh, it was easy as pie in the bathroom. Just swept the floor. It would have flown around outside, I think. Thanks, Anne! Stay safe.

I wish Ed and I were brave enough to cut each other’s hair. He had thought about letting me cut his hair until he saw how I trimmed the shrubs. We are starting to look like we did back in the 60s…….just an older and more worn out version.

I love your puzzle. We have been keeping busy working in the gardens. We have several large vegetable gardens and many flower and herb gardens. They keep us busy but we do love a good jigsaw puzzle when we have time. Take care!!

Wow Claudia, you did a great job! If it wasn’t so far I would send my husband to you for a haircut. I’m still working on my first puzzle. It’s slow going as all the pieces seem to look alike by now. We’re hoping for rain today. I love a rainy sunday afternoon and night. Enjoy your day and your new looks. Stay safe. 😊

The haircut looks great! You did a very good job. I need to cut my hair – I used to do it myself all the time when I wore it shorter but I will give it a go soon. The back is making my neck itch! Also, I got the date for the surgery on my pituitary tumor (June 3rd) so I want to trim my hair before I go into the hospital. So ready to get on with it!
    Good job on that puzzle!

Great haircut! Got a kick out of Don staging it all. Once an actor…always an actor.

And the puzzle is coming along nicely, too. It’s sunny, warm and getting more humid by the minute. Another couple of hours, and it may be air conditioning time. It’s a nice day to just relax. Hope you get to relax today too! ;)

    glad you’re having a take-it-easy day.

doing that here, for sure. still have a fever, but it is down. and that terrible headache has lessened, too (after nearly two weeks). thanks be to God!

and thanks to you, claudia, and everyone else who’s offered prayers on my behalf, along with encouragement and friendship. means a lot, more than i think i could find words for. as i’ve said, those prayers are appreciated and reciprocated!

So glad the haircuts worked out and that divorce court won’t be necessary!!!!!!! Whew!!

We had a great day. The kids came out and just like that, all of the planting is complete! I am so very happy about! We had been told all week that it was going to be rain and storms all weekend, and they were wrong! We had a brief shower yesterday and a lovely, though quite warm and humid, day today. Made potato salad and baked beans and grilled brats and burgers (smelled like summer!!) and strawberry shortcake for dessert. As I watched the news tonight, from the glimpses of how others are “celebrating”, we are in for a long road ahead. What in the world are these idiots thinking??

Wow, great job with the haircut. My husband won’t let me near him. I think we must have some trust issues to work out. Or it may have something to do with fact the only haircuts I did were in the nineties when buzz cuts made a brief comeback among our sons and their elementary school peers. Trend didn’t last at our house. That cut revealed the scar at the base of #2 son’s skull which made him self conscious. He’d he flipped off the coffee table and whacked his head on the sofa’s wood frame when he was 2. Husband was out o f town so neighbor drove us to doctor for stitches, with me holding bath towel to back of his head. Man, head wounds bleed! For us having sons involved many trips to emergency rooms. Good times.

Spring finally came to SE WI today. Said son and girlfriend visited which made today really special and me ecstatic. We sat out on the patio all afternoon, kept food separate and didn’t get too close. Since they’ve strictly quarantined just like us we figured it was OK. Was just so great to sit and visit with other humans face to face.

    Take care.

Many thanks for the before and afters!! You did a superb job. Don looks very happy with his multi-talented wife. It looks a little drizzly here to–started off that way yesterday and then became beautiful. I’m mean because I had wished it would be raining on every open beach everywhere–seeing the images of unmakes crowds convinced me that people are idiots. Staying in, if you have somewhere safe and dry and some bread and soup (and ice cream) should be reason enough to “celebrate” a day that honors our war dead. And now you are no longer a Beauty School Drop Out! LOL

I cannot believe these fools. First of all, I’ve never understood partying on a day when we honor the dead. But then, when you add in the pandemic and social distancing and fools who do not understand the concept of sacrifice, well, it makes me livid.

      Thanks, Nora. Stay safe.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
