Day Three Hundred Eight

January 15, 2021 at 10:25 am by Claudia

Late yesterday afternoon, I suddenly got it  and moved around some pieces and it all came together. What a relief. Now, of course, comes the rest of the puzzle, which still has a lot of those off-white pieces and a complicated butterfly design.

I will forge ahead.

We watched the last episode of Pretend It’s A City  last night. Fran Lebowitz has over 10,000 books – another reason I admire her. She talks about that in an earlier episode when she references looking for a new apartment and needing something large enough for her books. But in this last episode, she talks about books and reading. Throughout this series, Don kept turning to me and saying “You’re  like that!”  I am, even down to the same quirky sense of humor.

We’re going to watch the whole thing again because Lebowitz speaks quickly and we sometimes missed what she was saying. I also love how delighted Scorsese is with her, often laughing heartily.

One other thing to point you toward: Don shared Jeff Bridges’ website with me today. It’s extraordinary. Besides being an Oscar-winning actor, he’s an artist, a photographer, and a musician. He draws and hand writes his posts. The entire site is so imaginative, so creative. In case you don’t know it, Bridges is fighting cancer right now. Yet, he still shares his wisdom and music and passions. I’ve always admired him; he’s a good person. A loving soul. Here’s the link.

Thanks, Don, for sharing this with me.

We’re counting the days until the 20th. It seems endless on one hand, but it’s only five days. Hearing Biden’s proposals yesterday was a breath of fresh air. Smart, compassionate, honest. He’s already been more of a leader in the past few weeks than OM was in four years.

I’m hearing a bird sing right now. I’m always rather shocked when I hear a bird sing in the dead of winter, but most days, I do. It seems like a special message just meant for me. That may seem silly, but that’s how I feel. I always thank the birds for sharing their song with me.

Looks like another gray day. This morning was very, very foggy. Don and I were saying that we’d love an entire day surrounded by fog. Sitting here in our cozy cottage, with the rest of the world muted would be lovely. Just for one day.

Hang in there, everyone.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

For once, I don’t have anything much to say, but I just want to thank you for your thoughtful post; and, yes, I was happy to discover Jeff Bridges’ website a couple of years ago; I simply forget to go look at it and I hope he’s doing well (I’d seen something he posted a few weeks back; he was resting on a sort of lounge with a new dog; had shaved his head which was startling as he’s always got that thick head of hair); he’s a fave actor for me (I like his brother, Beau, too; and, of course, in childhood we were so ‘into’ the TV show called ‘Sea Hunt’ which their father, Lloyd, starred in), so thanks for the reminder about the website. You know, in the mudslides/mudflow after the Dec 2017 wildfire here in SoCalif, and near Santa Barbara, in the tony community of Montecito, his home suffered a lot of damage and, I may be wrong on this, but I seem to remember that he and his wife were removed from the danger by helicopter. That was in 2018 January; his property adjoined Oprah’s. I recall seeing a posting from her, back in those days, where she was walking her acres to assess damage and she was very concerned about her ‘neighbor’ and the damage to his place but she of course didn’t name him, at the time; privacy and anonymity unless he chose to disclose it himself, which he later did, saying that, at first, it just wasn’t clicking in with him that things were as bad as they were but that his wife was alert to the danger. It all was just awful and, if I recall, over 20 people lost their lives.

Wishing you and Don a peaceful weekend. I think we’re all steeling ourselves for a rocky ride on the national front from tomorrow through the inauguration; just hoping for the best.

Yes, we watched Sea Hunt, too. One of the first conversations I had with Don was about we both had a fear of getting the Bends. And it was all because of that series.

      Stay safe, Vicki.

puzzle progress, a hug-like foggy morning, a documentary worth watching again and only 122 hours until the inauguration … hooray! enjoy!

thanks to don and you for the link to jeff bridges’ website. saw something about him on the news this morning that a tumor has greatly shrunk, that his cancer treatments are helping him. hooray again!

don’t know how much snow we’ve received, but we are under a blizzard warning until 6:00 tonight so i am home today. i want so much to do some cleaning (beyond washing the dishes) but will save that for a better day and take it easy. i am glad to be here.

happy friday to all. and stay safe!

Yes, he has a post on his site about it. He found out it had shrunk on January 6th, came home feeling elated, and then saw the insurrection happening at the Capitol.

      Enjoy being home, Kathy.

      Stay safe.

I will have to check out Jeff Bridges’ website. Sounds interesting.

We’ve only had two sunny days here in three weeks. This gray and dreariness gets old. We do have big, fluffy snowflakes falling right now (but not sticking), which is pretty.

I heard birdsong yesterday, but couldn’t identify the bird from its singing. By the time I looked out the window, the bird was gone. I did see two mourning doves in my backyard a few days ago, which made my heart happy. I know most of them migrate.

Started Winter Solstice yesterday and so far, so good. Her stories are so charming.

I don’t remember the last time we had a sunny day, Melanie!

I’m reading a mystery right now and then I’ll start on Winter Solstice.

      Stay safe.

    Dear Claudia,
thanks for yr advice ref. the Netflix Scorsese miniseries with Fran Lebowitz which I will surely enjoy this weekend. This is the kind of gem I really will love.
Yeah, Jeff Bridges is one of my favourite actor ever since. Began with his father Loyd and the sixties series, Mike Nelson – Abenteuer unter Wasser, which I watched when I was five or six years old.
Jeff is such a funny person and its such a pain he suffers Lymphoma. German Newspaper wrote this morning his tumor is shrinking, good news in bad times. I read his so called bio “Jeff Bridges and the Zen Master” – good read! Jeff also has an IG site @thejeffbridges. And… of course I love the Coen Brothers.
    Stay safe and relax!

Yes, it was called Sea Hunt here. We watched it, too!

He talks about his tumor shrinking on his website. Such good news!

      Stay safe, Helga.

I admire your persistence regarding that puzzle. I would’ve given up long ago. I seem to have lost my patience.

Yes…Biden is our ‘acting’ President it seems, at least to me, Hope is on the way, but, it’s taking soooo long. The days are agonizingly long I feel…way too long. I’m trying to wait patiently for the 20th to arrive, but again, instead of looking forward to something, we have to suffer through more threats, and fear first. And, why? Because a delusional yahoo decided that he wanted to be president for another 4 years, irregardless of what the people of this country want, and he’s convinced a group of lunatics to go along with his plan. Sigh.

Thanks for the link to Jeff Bridges website…I will definitely be checking it out. It’ll make for a great distraction…as you can see, I need one.

Gloomy again here, too. We were predicted to get up to 7 inches of snow, but the storm must have shifted at the last minute, and we only got less than an inch, and it’s already melting. Fingers crossed it stays that way. Stay safe! ;)

I’m very afraid of what he might try to pull before Wednesday. And apparently, now he wants a big send-off on Wednesday morning. I hope the networks don’t televise it. Glad you avoided the snow, Donna!

      Stay safe!

Love Jeff Bridges, especially The Fisher King, and have been following him on Instagram since he went public with his cancer diagnosis. At the same time he was announcing it, Mr.Wizard got his diagnosis, too. So I was very glad to see that his chemo is working! Mr. W. will get his scan next month and learn what it shows in mid March. Way to go, Jeff!

In other news, I got my first vaccination last night! Yay! No reactions or pains, either. (Happy dance.) We don’t have fog today, but it is very cool and cozy at the beach with the fireplace going.

Love Fran Lebowitz, too. Hope to get to see Pretend It’s A City.

Glad you got your vaccine! It seems to be impossible to get it here right now, though we’re eligible. I’ll keep working on it next week.

      Stay safe.

I just finished the first puzzle I have done in years. The one you have looks difficult.

We just started Pretend It’s a City. Interesting.

I agree. Turn off the news. I watch the evening news and read the paper also posts from NPR. That’s about all I can stand.

    Keep cozy.

Claudia, do you look to the puzzle’s box as a guide to assembling the puzzle? I never do. I like that extra level of difficulty.

I had to laugh when you said you’d love one day of daylong fog. We’ve had several days of that and I’m really glad the fog is burning off by mid-morning. Don’t get me wrong, I do love the occasional foggy day but not so many in a row!

    Stay safe, sane and happy.

For my hubs BD in Dec our daughter got the 2 of them “tickets” to hear a lecture by Jeff Bridges sponsored by a local theatre group. It was supposed to be in person, but of course……… Anysay, they both absolutely loved it and he did a Q & A at the end. He is such an interesting man. He is back living in MI, isn’t he?

We got to spend the day w/ the granddaughter today. Such a wonderful time. Not a single tear all day!! She was certainly full of huge smiles for Mom & Dad when we delivered her back to them. A very fun day.

Hope the puzzle is progressing. You know I admire your patience. Take care!

Jeff Daniels is the actor who is from Michigan, not Jeff Bridges.

So glad you got to see your sweet granddaughter, Chris!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
