Day Three Hundred Fifty-Four

March 2, 2021 at 10:18 am by Claudia

First things first:

Whoo hoo! We booked both appointments this morning at a Walgreen’s that is in the same area just south of us as is our grocery store (the one where we go to pick up groceries.) We have back-to-back appointments TOMORROW for our first dose. Our second will be on March 31st. And if we have a reaction to the second shot, we’ll take care of each other – we’ve done it before. So, by the end of the month, we’ll have been fully vaccinated. Huzzah!

It’s all in the timing. We were waiting to be contacted by the group Heidi put us in touch with. We also received something from the county yesterday saying they were getting more vaccination stock in this week – they would send us a link today. So I’m thinking that a bunch of vaccine was delivered to New York pharmacies as well. The first openings were in the town just north of us, but we couldn’t book both doses. Then Don went to the openings in the town just south of us and started yelling “I’ve booked both doses!” as I frantically tried to catch up to him. I was already muttering that I probably wouldn’t get an appointment when I did. And then it said “Book your second dose.” And I did. If we hadn’t signed on when we did, we would most likely have missed out.

We’ve been euphorically happy for over an hour. Not only did we get an appointment for tomorrow, but it’s a quick drive from our house. It couldn’t have worked out better. Very, very thankful vibrations today at the cottage.

Don cooked a celebratory breakfast.

We’ve had high winds here for almost 24 hours and let me tell you, they were intense. When Don is bothered by them – he normally isn’t – it’s a big deal. It’s still windy, but much less so than a couple of hours ago.

It’s slow going, but slow and steady wins the race, right?

I’m just about to finish The Moving Toyshop.  Then I’ll have figure out what I want to read next.

If you don’t mind, I won’t post tomorrow, as we’ll be on our way to Walgreens. But I’ll be back on Thursday. Don has to cancel his eye appointment for tomorrow but he’ll reschedule for next week.

So remember that I’m not posting tomorrow and don’t worry about me!

Stay safe.

Happy Tuesday.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I know the feeling that you felt once you knew you had an appointment to receive the first vaccine. It’s such a relief and almost overwhelming. We, too, had a celebratory dinner after our first shot. Neither one of us had any reaction to the first shot and we’re hoping for the same results when we get our second shot next week. Fingers crossed!

Good luck tomorrow and continue to stay safe.

Congratulations! We both got our first shot on Sunday. It was a last minute voice mail that was garbled a phone call to our county’s vaccine hotline and we had our shot within 24 hours. We are not waiting on pins and needles to get an email about our second dose. So glad you both could get both doses scheduled.

Yay! It feels a bit like you won the lottery doesn’t it?
I had the pfizer vaccine with no reaction really to the 1st dose. The 2nd dose I only felt slight fatigue the next day but I had a red spot at the vaccine site that felt a little itchy for about a week. Not sure if that was an allergic reaction to something in the vaccine or an immune response. Anyway, it was mild. I know some people feel quite ill after the 2nd one. I hope you don’t feel too bad.
It is sunny and about 40° today. The snow is slowly going. I am so anxious to be able to walk outside again. There is no place to walk safely in winter. The snow banks on the side of the road make it hard to get off the road and none of the paved bike paths are plowed. I do have a treadmill but it’s not the same.

Great news for you both. I got a text message to book my vaccine 2 weeks ago and so was given it that afternoon. I felt so pleased and proud of all of those that had made it possible. Here in the U.K. we’re having a 12 week gap between vaccines so that more people can get their initial dose, so I don’t have the 2nd dose booked yet. I shall feel much happier once that’s done. Stay safe and well done for your persistence.

Congratulations! We were fortunate here in Michigan to have gotten both shots. Our second shot was just over 2 weeks ago. I celebrated yesterday with my first haircut in over a year. My husband and I got them at the same time. First one we had a slight headache, second one more of a headache, fever and slight flu like symptoms. The nurse said the second one may give us more problems. I had heard that before we went so had a pot of soup made. It only lasted 24-36 hours but worth the feeling of us being safer. With my husband having pulmonary fibrosis we have been very careful since last March. We still plan to be careful but feel blessed to have gotten our vaccine!

Walgreens came thru for us also. I get my second dose next Monday and husband also. I also registered on Walgreens site ahead of time and starred is as favorite so I would not waste time trying to schedule. I believe they are giving the Moderna shot at Walgreens. Had no reaction to it except for feeling tired and so I went to bed. I understand the second dose is more prone to give a reaction. Stay healthy ….don’t take any pain reliever till after the shot if you need one. I took a tylenol. I know how relieved you are. I have put off so much , as we all have waiting for this possible reprieve. Let us all hope the world can get healthy. Take care, relax. It was the easiest shot. Download and fill out the form you need to bring with you. Relax.

So happy for you. I actually got tears in my eyes when I got that first shot. You don’t realize what strain you are under until the end is in sight. I have a friend who is worried about the shot and refuses to get it. I just feel sorry for her as she has to live in such fear and for how long? You will have such a sense of relief. Love to you!

Yay, good news about your vaccines! When I had a flu vaccine back in November, the nurse told me if you have a reaction that it’s actually a good sign as it shows your body is ready to fight any infection. I thought of that when I had my covid vaccination three weeks ago. I didn’t have any after reactions from either!😂
As Fiona has mentioned earlier, it’s a 12 week wait between doses here but we seem to be ahead of target.

My first shot was two weeks ago, and even though I will wear a mask, the 70% efficacy makes me feel better already.I
The comment about having a lot of soup made for the second seems wise.
Some of my family members report symptoms for about 12 hours, and tired. I see that as an indication your body is reacting as it should.

I’m still on the fence about getting any of the vaccines because of my past medical conditions. I am however happy that you have your appointments set up. I will be following along to see what if any, negative reactions either of you have. I am currently reading The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles. Yay! I’m so happy for you! I took my mother to get her shots. (She’s 83) You’ll be happy to know that she had absolutely no reaction to either of the shots. So, of course now she’s worried there was nothing in the 2nd shot – lol! Anyway, I am so glad she’s had her shots. I need to wait to get mine. I think my husband and I are in one of the last groups here. We are just under 65 and I believe they are doing college kids first which is probably a good idea since its hard to regulate their behavior. My husband and I will just stay home and fortunately he can work out of the house and since I am semi-retired, I can just wait to continue with my work. We really do have to remind ourselves how fortunate we are.

Most everyone I’ve spoken with who’ve had the second Moderna shot have had only minor reactions (the aches, the fatigue, slight fever and maybe even a few chills, but it doesn’t last for long and is manageable); so, I’m going for my second shot on Saturday just trying to be well rested and well nourished ahead of time, fortifying myself physically as much as possible.

What a relief for you and Don to finally be able to come down off that daily vigilance of trying to get an appointment; really glad for you both. What’s the first thing you want to do once you’re fully vaccinated, as late Spring approaches (for instance), even still wearing a mask of course; but, a bookstore run? Going to the big city? Hair appointment as some have mentioned? Eating out in a restaurant? I think we all have our Covid bucket lists! It’s going to be liberating but strange at first, I’m sure. We’ll have to be UNtraining some of our ‘trained’ behavior of 2020.

So happy!! Yay! I think we all share that same feeling when we know we are finally going to get the 1st one, and then knowing the 2nd one is scheduled is such a feeling of utter relief. Our 2nd is on March 14, so we will be celebrating the Ides of March this year!

Enjoy your day off tomorrow. If you feel tired after the injection, just go with it and rest!! After all we have been through this year, a little rest is likely a good idea anyway. We both had a sore arm the afternoon of our shot, and the day after, and we both were just really tired. But on the following morning there was nothing but relief!!

We will all be anxious to hear how it goes for you. Such a great day! Take care.

Sleeping last night was a challenge with the noise. I swear today was the coldest day of the winter so far with the biting wind bringing the wind chill factor into the negative category. Hi, Claudia,
Just read yesterday’s post because I was looking for today’s (guess I had opened, but not read it — sheesh! tee hee). So glad to hear you are both receiving your shots. I had my first one (Pfizer) yesterday. I had some discomfort, moreso as the day wore on, but not entirely unexpected as I have many health issues and cannot normally get vaccines (w/o a great deal of medical review, consult, ad nauseum). Today I feel much better, though still a little nauseated off and on and tired. But I am so happy to have gotten it (had to work through my fear, also). Thanks for sharing the tip about a meal for after the second shot. Great idea!

Really enjoying your puzzles. The covers are truly wonderful! Makes me work to see if I could remember reading a particular edition (no luck!).

Hope everything goes well. Can’t wait to hear your story. Love your writing. (Oh, finished reading Hiroshima and now into The Chocolate Cobweb by Charlotte Armstrong.)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.
