Sorry for my absence yesterday! We were getting our grocery list together to order online and then we were trying to get earlier and closer-to-the-house appointments for the vaccine. The vaccine stuff is very frustrating. Even though Walgreen’s shows plenty of appointments available, they only offer the option of First and Second Dose or Second Dose. So, if you click First and Second, if the computer thinks they don’t have an appointment available for a second dose three weeks later, they won’t let you book it. So, you get all excited about appointments and you aren’t eligible for any of them! I don’t know if that’s peculiar to New York state or the policy everywhere.
To make things more complicated, Don somehow got one for Tuesday afternoon about 45 minutes from us, but I didn’t. And then to make things even more complicated, my friend Heidi, who works for a great organization (food pantry, thrift store and community café) in a town north of us, called me yesterday. Her organization was contacted by another group who wanted a list of people 65 and up who might not have been vaccinated yet in order to (perhaps) vaccinate us this week. So we put our names on the list.
Everything is in flux. And in the middle of this, we have to get Don to his retina doctor on Wednesday and the car is getting an oil change and an inspection tomorrow. For two people who sit around most of the time, that’s a lot of activity.
Anyway, it all took up a lot of time yesterday and I just said “I’m going to take the day off from the blog,” as I couldn’t do all of that and post on time. As always, I usually post something quickly on IG letting you know that I’m not posting and that I’m okay. So check there.
Newest puzzle (worked on very gingerly because of my back.):
The cover of the box.
And this is what I have so far:
I tried working it on the kitchen island, instead of at the table. It worked fairly well, but I still did too much and was sore at the end of the day. Today, I will be more disciplined. It’s a challenge, as it’s rainy and damp and I get restless.
Stay safe.
Happy Sunday.

Apparently, you have become part of my morning routine. After checking several times I was relieved to see the IG post.
The vaccine system there sounds very frustrating. I wonder if you could just use one of the second dose appointments for your first dose and then book another second dose appointment. It doesn’t really make much sense. We scheduled our first dose and our second was automatically scheduled same day and time 3 weeks later. Maybe the other list will pay off. Keep checking everywhere you can.
No news here. It’s supposed to rain. I miss the sun but I hope the rain takes away lots of snow.
Take it easy on your back today. The puzzle will be there tomorrow.
Stay safe

That’s the way the appointments appear to schedule in Monroe County, NY too. They even tell you to not sign up for a day and time that you can’t do again in 3 weeks. (Must be Pfizer vaccine. I have an appointment on next Sunday and then 3 weeks later.)
Claudia says
Congrats!
My fingers are crossed here but I’m not hopeful.
Stay safe, Laura.
Claudia says
It is very frustrating and I got frustrated once again today.
It’s been raining here both yesterday and today.
Stay safe, Marilyn.

I too was relieved when I saw your post this morning! I kept checking to see if you were just late and I was hoping nothing was wrong. See what you’ve done to us Claudia! We all care very much about you and Don. Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with the vaccine appointment. For some lucky reason I was able to receive my first shot yesterday. My clinic called me on Friday afternoon and set it up for me. I was shocked. I feel very fortunate to have gotten one. I go back in one month for my second round. I was not expecting to get one for a while do to my age. But my clinic does things a little differently. They started at age 50 and up. Again I feel very fortunate. Happy Sunday! xo
Claudia says
We don’t seem to have that possibility here. Only through the State sites and pharmacies. Nothing with clinics or hospitals or anything like that.
Glad you got your shot, April.
Stay safe.

I think Walgreen’s is just holding their doses for the 2nd dose people right now. I have the same problem here in Illinois. We keep hearing that lots of doses are coming so maybe soon. I sure hope so. I just what it over with.
Sorry about your back! I know just what you are going through right now! Tired of the sore stiffness but better each day.,,
Take care! and Stay safe!
Claudia says
Here’s what I don’t understand. When you get an appointment with Walgreens, they automatically schedule your second dose. At the same time. So all of those openings couldn’t be for second doses, because second doses are already filled. It doesn’t mae sense.
Stay safe, Ellen.
Cathy S. says
So relieved to know that everything is ok there at Mockingbird Hill Cottage.
Good luck with appointments for getting your vaccines. Once you are able to get them you will feel such a sense of relieve even though we know we will still be wearing masks for some time to come.
Have a wonderful day!
Claudia says
I’d like that sense of relief but something tells me it isn’t coming for a while!
Stay safe, Cathy.

The vaccine hoops are a mess. I haven’t been able to confirm our 2nd vaccine and I can’t figure out why its not up on the website yet. Ugh! I’ll be glad when Mom and I have both and can just continue our safe ways but feel a bit more secure. I hope you find something soon.
Claudia says
I do, too. It consumes much of my day and to tell the truth, I’m sick of it.
Stay safe.

I was wondering if you were ill, or just involved in something. I’m glad it was the latter. You certainly have had a dilly of a time securing appointments. I’m wondering if it’s just New York, or if that’s happening in other states. Our appointments for next Friday have been confirmed for this Friday. Fingers crossed! (Course our very first appointments were cancelled due to lack of a vaccine.). UW Health has done a great job of keeping us informed, and making scheduling easy for us. And, for that I am thankful.
I spent the balance of my day spring cleaning our bedroom. Hard to believe how much dust accumulates, eh? So, now I can work my way around the house…gotta start somewhere.
I really like your new puzzle. Hope your back doesn’t give you too much trouble. It does seem to take longer to recover from injuries these days…doesn’t it? Stay safe! ;)
Claudia says
It is happening in other states because readers here have said it is. But not all other states. We can’t go through a hospital system or a clinic or a pop-up (as in NYC.) We have to go to the State sites or pharmacies. It’s ridiculous.
Stay safe, Donna.
Donnamae says
Thanks for explaining that to me…now I understand. No wonder you all are having difficulties! ;)

What I don’t like about the vaccine appointments is….you can’t seem to un-make an appointment. I was helping my 84 neighbor get a vaccine. She put herself on some lists and I added her to other list because none seem to be even close to being ready. Well she got in a local Mom and Pop pharmacy. Now I can’t undo the many list she is on. No wonder there are no appointments.
Claudia says
That’s insane. You should be able to cancel an appointment easily!
Stay safe, Janet.
Brendab says
Glad you are ok
I don’t do social media but determined you were having a busy day.
Getting close to moving.
Most states are having problems…with vaccine…they are trying to do so many in several professions instead of the elderly after first responders and nursing homes…medical etc…that has caused so much confusion…plus those who are in charge are getting their families and friends in…has become a mess. I have friends still waiting n first one…way over 70…
Take care
Good luck
Prayers
Claudia says
Yes I know of people in their eighties who haven’t been vaccinated..
Stay safe, Brenda.

Hi Claudia,
Sorry to hear that your back’s still bothering you. I just looked and Amazon has some tilted puzzle tables for just that thing. I don’t know if that would help, or if you’d be interested, but FYI.
Hope you feel better soon.
Claudia says
Yes I’ve seen them. I’m not sure if they’re for me. I’ve also seen the kind that spin, like a lazy susan. Par of this is due to the puzzled, but a lot of it is because I fell about a week ago. I’m doing a good job of babying it today.
Stay safe, Jenny.
Chris K in WI says
Nationalized medicine would help many of these issues, I think, as it has in other countries. This whole “state thing” makes me crazy. No rhyme or reason to much of it. There might as well be a lottery! The only thing I might suggest, Claudia, is if Don does get his 1st on Tues, that you call his eye specialist. I have heard in some cases, Drs are asking patients to not do another injection of any kind that close to a vaccine dose. It might be worth a phone call just to be certain the 2 could be done that close together. This is all so new.
I hope you were able to rest your back today. I did miss you yesterday, but didn’t think of going on IG. In my mind you just hit the wall, like most of us, and I pictured you perhaps screaming out your window, “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!!” I know that is what I have been thinking about doing….. take care.
Claudia says
Exactly. If we had nationalized medicine, none of this ridiculousness would be happening.
I’ve passed along your advice to Don. He’s going to call his eye doctor today and ask about it.
I am sort of screaming out my window, by the way. I hit a wall yesterday but I’m better today.
Stay safe, Chris.
Roxie says
I so hear you!
I may not have covid19, but my blood pressure is horrendously elevated from all the vaccination frustration. Okay, maybe there is a lack of exercise and more pounds than I should have, but the stress is definitely a contributor. Working on all of it!
I’m getting lots of advice from family in other states. Well meaning, but they don’t seem to realize how differently each state administers the vaccines. Turns out Nevada is second-lowest for shots per capita. We only received about two-thirds the expected doses last week due to the cold freeze across the rest of the country, so I’m just very hopeful that my recent unsuccessful experience was a one-time problem. Fingers crossed!
Meanwhile, I’m glad to know that I’m not crazy or incompetent and that plenty of us are having the same problem getting an appointment. I’m rooting for us all!
Claudia says
You’re not! It’s crazy here and there are a lot of people complaining about it.
Hang in there, Roxie.
Stay safe.
Donna says
So happy to see your post today Claudia. I was worried about you yesterday. I follow you on IG, but didn’t go on that site at all. In the future I will know to look for you there. Take good care of yourself.
Claudia says
Yes, always check IG. I usually try to write a quick message if I’m absent from the blog on a particular day.
Stay safe, Donna!
Joy says
Relieved your one day absence was just a ‘too much’ day Claudia and that you are both OK. Your daily posts are precious.
Hugs
Joy
Claudia says
Thank you so much, Joy!
Stay safe.
Mary says
I live in Dutchess County. My husband, age 63 with cardiac issues has not been able to get a vaccine. My son, 23, who works in a nursing home has gotten the two shots (thank goodness). My dad, 86, got his at the VA hospital. My mom, 87, has been trying to get one forever, but can’t seem to find one. According to her doctor’s office, all of Dutchess County is having issues with vaccines and said that when the get them in they will be calling their patients to let them know. I am 65 years old but in good health, so I haven’t even tried to get one yet. This is crazy! My mom even tried to get an appointment in Connecticut but was told they don’t give vaccines to anyone out of state. Thank goodness, mom is very healthy but I still worry about her not being able to get the vaccine. I have no clue as to what the problem is with availability.
Claudia says
I don’t either, Mary. It is very, very frustrating. Your mom should have been vaccinated by now – it’s inexcusable!
Hang in here and stay safe!
jeanie says
Hang in there, Claudia. At least there is movement on the vaccines. That’s a plus, even if it’s a little chaotic and confusing.
The puzzle looks challenging and fun! Can’t wait to see how it evolves!
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Jeanie.
Stay safe!
