Day Three Hundred Forty-Two

February 18, 2021 at 10:20 am by Claudia

Thank you for all of the wonderful comments on my anniversary post! They mean so much to me. Let’s face it, everyone wants to feel appreciated, and reading your words made my day.

Thank you. Thank you for being here, for interacting with me and fellow blog readers, for making me laugh and cry, for keeping me honest.

On to another year!

Yesterday’s progress.

I really love The New Yorker  cover puzzles. I received another one in yesterday’s mail. The artwork is always compelling and I learn a lot about the artist’s style while working the puzzle. I worked on it a lot in the afternoon, right after we filled nylon stockings with salt, tied them off and put them on top of the ice-filled gutters, which was a challenge. Finding nylons was also a challenge, since I rarely wear them and did a thorough reorganization and purging of my dresser not too long ago. I found some old tights, which I cut up and used, but we needed more of these ‘snakes’ so I went back to the bedroom and found some way back in a drawer. Excellent. I did this before, several years ago, and it worked. I had completely forgot about this solution until a reader’s helpful comment reminded me of it.

Today? Snow. In fact, it’s snowing outside right now. Don just ran up to the store for a few things because after this morning, it will be snowing heavily through tomorrow. My guess is another 6 inches. Next week, we have a warm-up coming. And rain.

I’ve had my fill of winter, thank you very much.

Still reading Mrs. Tim Carries On – I’ve been concentrating so much on the puzzles that I haven’t read as much as I normally do. Nor have I done any more work on the dollhouse. (I will, I’m just not real inspired at the moment.) Let’s face it, jigsaw puzzles are my thing at the moment. Once Spring arrives, all of that will change as I head outdoors again. But for now, with the endless lockdown, they really save my sanity.

Still staying away from the news. That is also saving my sanity.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

Your puzzles are a great diversion for this tedious time. Reading is more of a challenge for me just now, too, but I persevere—starting Hamnet today.
Congrats on your blogiversary! It is a joy to read every day. Thanks so much, for showing us in to your world.

at this rate (of puzzle-ing and snow), i’ll guess you finish that puzzle by tomorrow … probably even today. have fun!

glad you’re getting a bit more stocked up on puzzles, groceries, etc. will be good to have them given your forecast.

glad you had supplies to make those salt-things for the gutters, too. be safe out and up there!

not much to tell here. going to try to do more around here today because i was awake until nearly 5:00 this morning and i do not want a repeat of that!!! still have restrictions against lifting (nothing more than like a half-gallon of milk, which i don’t drink) and bending so my choices are limited. i can dust what’s in easy reach. maybe i will knit another hat. and definitely paint … i have some ideas about characters for a couple books that i want to see on paper. :)

want to ask … is anyone watching a tv show on tuesday nights called “big sky”? if so, has it been worth it so far? thanks.

hope you are staying safe and well. happy thursday.

We were watching Big Sky. We lost track after the winter break. Didn’t realize it had started up again. It is compelling…and we have to continue to watch to see what happens. And, quite frankly….it an important topic. Stay warm and safe! ;)

        thanks, donnamae.

can you find any missed episodes somewhere? hope so.

agree … and i appreciated the psa i saw at the end of an episode.

hope you and your family are staying safe and warm!

Fortunately, we can find episodes from On Demand. Family still doing well…thanks for asking! ;)

        meant to add …

when i asked if it’s worth it, that question had nothing to with the actual subject matter … i didn’t know what that was. realized after the second episode that it was about human trafficking (i initially thought it would be about a murder and i’d have to stop watching). my question was more about getting past the scary creepiness and not wanting to see violence because those things stick in my brain and heart and who needs that? but i will answer my own question, too, by saying yes, “big sky” is worth watching if it gets into the brains and hearts of anyone who can help people who are being trafficked.

I am intrigued by the pantry hose solution. I just recently read about it….and we are planning on doing that, if we can find some more ice melt.

Great puzzle….you have the gift of persistence! Stay safe! ;)

The panty hose solution is great fun, and added bonus – it works!
More snow here today as well (Long Island) – I’m so over it, but nothing we can do.
At least we have power, unlike other parts of the country.
    Thinking of spring!

That’s a pretty brilliant strategy for the gutters. I confess, I’d be in the same boat — I don’t think I have any nylons left anywhere! We’re due for more snow too, but hopefully not that much and not for another day or two. Yesterday was such a lost day, I look forward to a bit of productivity today!

I thought of you yesterday when my New Yorker cat puzzle arrived! I’m not sure when I’ll start it — I really don’t have a good spot. But I have a yen to start!

Take care and keep cozy — or as cozy as you can when stuffing gutters and preparing for more snow.

I’ve got this image in my mind of you both up a ladder with Moulin Rouge-style sexy underwear tucked under your arms trying to thaw out your guttering…sorry, I know the situation is in no way amusing but it did tickle my fancy a bit.

I didn’t get to comment yesterday, but HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! I think I started reading your blog when I retired in 2009 or so. I remember one of the very first posts I read was, I believe, when you made a lamp shade…. does that sound right? I think it was in your kitchen, maybe over the island? Oh, I hope I am right and it was your blog I remember!! So many years…and all of those posts! Thank you!! ♡

When we had those really bad ice dams, the roof guy gave us some disk-like things that we put up there that were actually ice melts. The icicles are really dripping today as it is 27*(!!!) and sunny. I believe our next snow chance is on Sunday. By Tues it is supposed to be 40. So glad that long stretch of below zero is behind us now! The dog surely is happy to be out getting her 2-3 daily walks again. Be careful up by those gutters, and I hope your snow totals are less than expected. Take care.

Yes, it’s still there. A hanging lampshade base that I covered in doilies. It hangs over the table.

I’ve since looked up ice melts and we may get some. I guess you just toss them up on the roof.

      Stay safe, Chris.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
