Day Three Hundred Ninety-Two

April 9, 2021 at 10:06 am by Claudia

Our new tenant is back.

He is very, very busy. It’s been fun to watch him try to get large sticks through that opening. But he does it.

Here he is. He’s a Carolina Wren. As I sit here in my blogging chair in the den, I can see him flying back and forth and I’m utterly charmed by him. He has a lovely call.

I can’t tell you how happy Don and I are that he’s come back and he’s renting the trailer Air B&B. Well, not really renting, as it’s free of charge.

A little blurry, he moves quickly!

I have to finish this post, but I keep getting distracted by photo opportunities. More  photos tomorrow.

He’s such a wee little bird, but he’s determined. I watched him poke his beak at the opening repeatedly to push some nest material inside the hole.

Of course, I can’t go out there until he’s done for the morning.

Today is grocery pickup day. I’ll also be doing some work outside.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

That little wren and the trailer are so fun. I’d be glued to the window to watch. Just what I need right now.

We’ve had a hell of a week—bad chemo reaction, ER, hospital for a few days—but home now, improving, and things are looking up.

Have noticed on the blogs so many women lost their husbands this year/last year…of course my son in law lost his dad last February…his mom is strong…my best lost her husband last year and her brother (dear to me also)…I have to wonder on the blogs, those that don’t seem to have acknowledged that the Pandemic is real…after losing husbands, wouldn’t they be more careful? Esp since some of those died of Covid (not my friend or son-in-law’s dad)…however, I did lose family and friends last year to Covid…it is easy to believe that once some are vaccinated, it is okay. NOT…prayers for all the readers and you and your dear husband…one day…we will get past this…I hope…if everyone gets vaccinated…there should not be a choice…kids have to be vaccinated to go to school…this one should be included…

It’s going to take a long time for everyone to get vaccinated. And it isn’t over until that happens, right? I agree. Just as kids have to be vaccinated to go to school, the same thing should happen with every citizen.

      Stay safe, Brenda!

so glad you’ve seen your new neighbor (tenant) again! that’s a good sign.

wrens are so sweet. all birds are, really.

is this nest in a tree in your front yard?

hope the day goes as you want, is nice and easy. always feels good to get stocked up, i think, and cross something off the “to do” list, then spend more time doing what you want!

this morning i had an initial physical assessment on my back. i was very tense, physically and emotionally … all about moving and testing my back, especially my spine, which hasn’t been moved really in months ,,, but the physical therapist seemed pleased and was encouraging about what i was able to do. that was nice to hear. i wanted to go home, take a nice hot and very long shower, but have to work so brought some aspirin, just in case. haven’t taken any yet, which i will take as a good sign. have pt appointments set for twice a week through the end of the month and will then re-assess. now i need to call my doctor … they told me the pt would decide when to stop wearing the big bulky brace. the pt today said no; because she doesn’t take imaging, that is up to the doctor. … … … … trying not to dwell on the continued lack of information coming my way and instead focus on the positives ….

hoping i can sew a couple pillowcases this weekend. i just need to find time available at a small fabric store where they are kind enough to let me use their long tables for cutting and measuring. :)

    happy friday!

    stay safe!

How wonderful to have a bird’s nest in such a weird bird caravan!
The European relative of the Carolina wren ist called “Zaunkönig (fenchking)” he is a wee bit smaller but a good singer too. (Just to glance with my general knowledge).
Happy spring (no more stay safe!)!

That little wren will provide you with hours of entertainment…how fun!

We are still getting rain showers mixed in with sunshine. The trees are starting to leaf out, mostly the maples, and you can see the leaves better against the dark skies in the background. It really is spring!

Hope your day goes well for you…stay safe! ;)

I just looked up in my journal, and the last 4 years the earliest our wrens have been back is May 4th. I absolutely love their song. We usually have 2 nesting in differnent houses in the yard each year. Soooo much fun to watch. I always cut up some yarn and put it in the area where their houses are, and it is fun to watch them carry it in. When we clean out their houses in the Fall, their nests are woven with the scraps of yarn. So very interesting!! You will have hours of fun ahead. I can’t wait!!

We have more rain ahead. The grass is now an amazing emerald green. Just so pretty, and the buds opening on the trees and shrubs are that beautiful light almost chartreuse color. So very pretty. Have a great Friday and take care.

      hej, chris …

if you ever need bits of yarn for the wrens’ nests, please let me know. my sister and i (especially my sister) knit and have lots of scrap endings. i’d be glad to send them to you.

i’ve seen scraps of yarn put into new or empty suet cake cages, dangling from a branch for birds to use in nests. don’t have a place to put one where i live. and again, happy to share them with you.

hope you have a good weekend ahead. stay safe!

Kathy, I couldn’t find this reply from you for several days, and finally went thru Claudia’s posts and found it!! Of course the yarn would be used here, but I don’t want you to have to send it!! Postage is crazy!! I also don’t know how I could get you my address, but if you sent, I would insist on reimbursing you! Perhaps you could find people there, or ask a local library or school, if they could use. I see the Robins and Sparrows also using the yarn bits, so I think any birds would be attracted!!

So, the “new job”… I agree that taking on a bigger job when you are close to retiring doesn’t sound like fun at all. But having your hours cut isn’t a good thing, either! Perhaps the extra money for the new job for the last few years you work might be worth it as it would increase your SS in the years to come?? I am sure it is a tough decision. Keep us posted on how things are going!!!!

Claudia! Incredible photos! I’m glad you can identify him/her, too.

RIP Prince Philip of England; he served the Queen for over 70 years. His death wasn’t unexpected but he still leaves behind his wife, his adult children, the grandchildren and great-grands. And they can’t do the funeral the way they’d want to, due to Covid. Can’t have the crowds who’d want to pay their respects.

Claudia — thnks for showing the wren pix — they are so tiny — can be loud when they want to. Last spring M/M Wren thought it a good idea to nest in unused flower pot right outside our back door. They sang loudly from dawn to dark — many babies — he was obviously very proud of himself HaHa! One day, I went out the door — scared babies everywhere — I think they were ready to leave the nest but I hated so to have startled them. Needless to say, all pots on the shelf unit are turned over (except one)– am I hoping for a repeat?? we’ll see. stay healthy and safe

I think we, too, will continue working on jigsaw puzzles. They allowed us to keep our sanity over the last year during the quarantine and we found them to be a great way to relax and pass the time.

Love your little trailer birdhouse. It kind of brings back memories of my childhood when we spend vacations in our little 15 foot travel trailer.

I was wondering if he was a Carolina wren. I wasn’t sure you got them up that far north. This, unfortunately might not be the nest they use. The male builds approximately 3 nests and then the female picks the one she likes best. If I were the female, I would pick the one in your bird house though. It is very cute!

Yes, we do get them here, probably more of them as the climate has become warmer.

I hope the female picks this nest!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
