Day Three Hundred Twenty

January 27, 2021 at 10:14 am by Claudia

Once again, all my good intentions went by the wayside as I ended up spending time on the puzzle.

I can’t help myself.

Today, I promise to vacuum and swiffer, work on the dollhouse, and pay bills.

Just finished yet another long call with the IRS. When I paid our tax bill online on October 15th, I entered my social security number. But it never got credited (we’ve received late payment notices) because Don’s social security number is the primary number on the account. Because there is some end-of-the-year computer updating going on, every time I called, whoever I spoke to was unable to transfer the payment in order to credit it. Every person I spoke to was quite lovely and when it would fail, they would put a hold on the account so I wouldn’t be sent more letters and then they’d ask me to call back in two weeks. Today, it finally went through.

I’ve learned my lesson on that one. But, hey, it was the first time I had ever paid online.

It snowed yesterday. I’d say we have about 3 inches on the ground. It was quite lovely. We may get a bit more snow today.

I’m starting Winter Solstice  later today. Loved Jane Casey’s police procedural, Cruel Acts. She’s a wonderful writer. I always love it when I can’t quite figure out what will happen in the end.

I’m off to write out some checks and pop the bills in the mail.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Good morning Claudia! We got a pretty snowfall here too, about 3″, and it’s still snowy very lightly. Happy to hear the IRS was helpful. That’s a good news story. Stay safe!

    Hi Claudia,
I was wondering if you ever reviewed the new Michael Connelly book, it says you finished it, and maybe I missed your review?

Thank you always for your wonderful posts.

I don’t normally review books I read for pleasure beyond saying how much I like the author, Alice. That would take up too much time.

      Stay safe!

You are so good at those puzzles!! I admire your patience.

Boy, the days all blend together at this time of year. Every morning I have to try and figure out exactly what day of the week it is. Not much variance in our days from one to the next. Friday we have a grocery pick up order!! Wahoo!! It really was a lot easier to handle all of this when it was warmer weather and we could spend more time outdoors. Surely looking forward to that!!

Hope you have a good day. Swiffering, dollhouse, and bills sounds like a fun and productive day. Take care.

Same here. We are constantly thinking of what day it is, or we go through the day thinking it’s some other day of the week.

      Stay safe, Chris.

Two lovely wet heavy inches of snow to clear this morning! Hurray! Our old dog loves the snow and it was fun to watch her running like a puppy again. This is only our second storm this winter. We have less than half of an average snowpack and it’s scary to think about another drought year in the West.

Now to brew a cup of tea and snuggle down with a good book.

    Stay safe and warm!

So glad you got straightened out with the Feds. Such a pain but now, what a relief. We got about 2-3 inches here too and it still looks fresh and pretty. And it’s SO COLD! So, this snow isn’t going anywhere soon!

Very cold here and we’re supposed to get more snow on Sunday. I don’t think we have a final forecast yet. We’ll have to see just how much they’re predicting.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

Brrr, stay warm! I hope when you do get the snow that it’s indeed pleasant and enjoyable beyond the windows. We’re rainy in SoCalif; January has been the wide spectrum of weather events around here. Boy is it gloomy outside this afternoon; drippy and dark gray. Feels like you can’t get warm in the house, but I’m about to get even colder going out back to feed the kitty (the half-feral guy who at least has 7 warming shelters [there used to be more cats out there] should he choose to get inside one). I’m sorta glad we didn’t get to the hillside grooming when scheduled because the more tangled it is up there, the more growth of plants and trees which will help hold the dirt and keep us from sliding, although we have a very sturdy retaining wall that was professionally built six years ago. You know how it is in California, how we always have to worry about debris flow/mudslides with heavier rain (which is hovering in the forecast), the irony being that we so badly NEED the rain. But I still think most of this ‘precip’ is going to be north of us, like San Luis Obispo county and even Big Sur/Monterey. Hard to tell yet. Where we are south, we’re often in that sliver of ‘geography’ which gets bypassed by rain entirely. Which is why we have neverending drought.

Glad you got your IRS thing figured out. Trying to get thru to the motor vehicle dept, Social Security or the IRS is always so much ‘fun’, isn’t it (note my sarcasm).

I may or may not – I don’t usually write a lot about a book I read for pleasure.

      Stay safe, Nancy.

whew; glad the tax situation worked out!

bills won’t wait, but dusting sure can. glad you can set your own schedule. the puzzle looks great, probably gives you hours of distraction, you had a nice time and that’s the main thing. :)

three inches of snow sounds just right.

finished a big twice-yearly report for my job today. lots and lots of statistics and narratives, it feels like a “defend your job” report and i get stressed about it, but it’s done so i am relieved. am home now, showered, wanted brownies (that’s why i don’t make or buy any), but had soup instead. might knit a little (still can only sit for a few minutes at a time … like ten … before i have to get up and move around a bit) and work on a book.

hope you stay safe and have a nice night.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
