I worked on the dollhouse bathroom yesterday, but I wasn’t completely happy with my work. I decided to wallpaper the sloped ceiling/eaves/what-do-you-call-them? and some of the wallpapering was just a bit off. Most dollhouses are made to be wallpapered in sections, laying flat, before you put the rooms together. Not all, but most. But when you’re renovating an existing space (and a tiny one at that) it’s a challenge. Trying to measure hidden parts of the walls – even using a pattern like I do – is very difficult. I think I’ve hit on a solution; which is in reality, a disguise, and I’ll try it later today. Anyway, lots of time spent upstairs in the studio with frustrating results.
Later in the day, I worked on the puzzle:
I finished the Battery and Wall Street and Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Bridge, plus the place where the East River and the Hudson River meet. The next section will be the most difficult, because it’s basically rust colored pieces in varying shades denoting the grids in Manhattan. And more water, as well.
It is unbelievably cold here today. The wind chills are well into the below zero range. It took at least three hours for the house to warm up this morning and I’m still wearing my flannel pajamas and a hooded sweatshirt. More of the same tomorrow, then it will remain cold, just not as cold. And then snow on Monday and Tuesday. Since the snow is on the horizon, we put in another order for groceries this morning and we’ll pick it up tomorrow.
But…the sun is shining.
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.
Petra1945 says
Claudia, you are talking about “below zero”. That is clearly in the Celsius range… Not Fahrenheit, as you Americans usually do. Is this usual in your neck of woods, or is it just a convenient way to mention the freezing point?
Stay warm (and safe, of course),
Petra.

Petra
In Massachusetts today the temperature was five degrees Fahrenheit at 7AM. We’re a bit north of Claudia. The next two nights the temp is predicted to be 0 degrees F. It is said this week is historically the coldest of our year. 🥶
Claudia says
And with wind chill, it’s much colder than the thermometer would indicate!
Shanna says
Yes, Petra, I was just going to add that while 0 ° Centigrade may be the freezing point, on the Farenheit scale the freezing point is 32°. So 0° F is 32 degrees colder than the freezing point! Brrrr!
Claudia says
Brrr is right!
Shanna says
Confusing to switch scales from whatever you are used to. So, 0°F is equal to nearly -18°C!
Shanna says
And you know I’m having a dull day whenever you see me commenting on a math problem.

xo
Claudia says
No, it’s Fahrenheit.
Stay safe.

Wow! you are moving quickly on that puzzle! I thought it would take a lot longer to put together but you are good at this!
Sunny here today too so I will get out for a chilly walk. Love to feel the sun, altho, only a bit of my face gets the sun as I bundle up and wear a mask! Still feels good tho. Big snow is on its way to us starting tomorrow afternoon. I will get a snowblower workout!
Have a great weekend!
Claudia says
I’ve done a lot more today, but I haven’t finished it yet, Ellen.
Stay safe!

hope you and don are feeling better.
looks like you will finish that puzzle today (no pressure intended). you are great at details, problem-solving and creative things (so your dollhouse work will pay off)!
glad you will get more groceries before the snow … it’s too cold for getting out in those temperatures. stay safe and warm!
very cold here, too, and we are to get rain (which will freeze), followed by maybe three inches of snow tomorrow afternoon into sunday. over it!
usual day here except for getting an updated mri today after work. not driving up to minneapolis because i am at the point where i think i can tolerate laying on my back for up to an hour (plus they will be giving me a fast-acting medicine for relaxation as i have a bit of claustrophobia). hopefully this mri gives good information so maybe i can start physical therapy. that is both hopeful and scary to me … i still have a lot of pain and my back still feels like it could snap in half (sorry for that description, but it’s where i’m at).
for something fun, search online for something like “parrot sings led zeppelin” (i found it either on jimmy buffett’s twitter or instagram, shared from some other guy’s account). while i wish the bird had a bigger cage (or better yet lived in it’s natural habitat), it made me laugh out loud and i hope the same for you.
hope you all have an easy day and stay safe!

Claudia says
Good luck with your MRI, Kathy. I, too, have claustrophobia, so I understand!
It will actually be colder tomorrow when we get the groceries than when it snows on Monday. But we’d rather drive there in the cold than in the snow!
Stay safe.
kathy in iowa says
hej, claudia.
i agree … cold over snow (as long as heaters work at one and in the car).
glad you can get more groceries, etc.
thanks … mri done. more to say tomorrow … for now, though, want to say i’m sorry you have claustrophobia and hope you aren’t ever in a spot where you feel it.

For various reasons, first time this week that I was able to take a morning drive (since my dead battery about a month ago, I try to get Old Paint out at least every other day). The sun is glorious, the sky an amazing blue, the snow shimmered, and it was a whopping 9 degrees!!!! We’re so fortunate that we can stay warm. I passed a road crew trimming back trees and I wished I’d had a case of Dunkin Donuts hot coffee for them. I felt guilty for my hot mocha in my warm car. Stay safe! Glad the grocery delivery is working for you guys.
Claudia says
I can’t believe they were out working in this weather, Nora! My goodness!
Stay safe.
Wendy T says
Claudia, how do you approach your jigsaw puzzles? We first separate out the edge pieces (for “regular” puzzles with straight edges…we did a wooden puzzle that was in a jagged circle that baffled us for quite a while, since we don’t look at the picture of the puzzle before we tack. Then we separate out by color or attribute…all sky pieces, all water pieces, etc. The only problem is there are usually three or four of us doing a puzzle and we sort differently. It’s gotten us into (laughing, good-natured) arguments.
Stay safe, happy and warm!
Claudia says
I pull out the edge pieces first. Then I start on sections – whatever section looks doable and is near the edges. I don’t separate every piece at the beginning. I pull what I think I’ll need for that section. I’ve found that separating everything might lead to missing pieces because what I think should be grouped together when I first start on it ends up being confusing in the end. I started with the top of this puzzle – after the edges, and then I worked on the bottom because with the perspective, those pieces were easier to identify. And now, after filling in the rivers, etc., I’m on the center of Manhattan – which is the toughest sections.
Stay safe, Wendy!

You are plowing through that puzzle — well done! And I know what you mean about cold. I don’t know if we are quite so cold as you but it feels close. I went out to fill the bird feeders about an hour ago and I’m still cold, head to toe!
I’ll look forward to the dollhouse reveal. I can see how that would be quite frustrating!
Claudia says
It’s very, very windy here, which isn’t helping things!
Stay safe.
Chris K in WI says
We had our “fun” today when we picked up our grocery order. Then even more fun wiping it all down and putting it away. Fun, of course, being a relative term. At least if someone calls and asks “what’s new?” we have something to say!!
We are so cold here, as well. Anticipating 3-6 inches of snow Sat night into Sun.
Does Don work on the puzzle with you? I wondered if he enjoys them.
Well, enjoy the rest of your day, and get some rest for your day tomorrow :-) Take care.
Claudia says
No, I work it by myself. I don’t think he would be into them, but really, I like complete control and he knows that, so I do it alone. If he started to look for a piece, I would shoo him away!
Stay safe, Chris.
Chris K in WI says
Oh, Claudia, that conjures up a wonderful picture in my mind of you sitting and doing the puzzle and Don pulling up a chair to “help”…. and I can just picture the look on your face!!!!
Claudia says
Wouldn’t that be funny?

Donnamae says
It’s been pretty cold here, too, lately. And we’ve been getting snow storms every 3-4 days it seems. Next one is Saturday into Sunday. I am over it, too.
We did a semi quick grocery run, that should tied us over for the next 7-9 days. We’ll see how inventive I can get with recipes.
You are progressing well on both the puzzle, and the dollhouse. Although, I am still amazed at anything dollhouse related, that you do. Patience is the operative word there, I guess.
Stay safe…and puzzle on! ;)
Claudia says
Thanks, Donna. I’m grateful we could schedule a pickup for tomorrow, so we’ll be all set here.
Stay safe.

Love the puzzle…cold here too…picking up groceries in the morning…hope before snow…hoping snow avoids us another week until I get the second shot in early Feb. Some of folks I know got the first-prob not second-and will start over…some states are not going by age as they should…what a mess…most of my friends in other states have not even had the first vaccination…I am amazed at those who could get it-and refuse to do so-not my friends-but on blogs…oh well to each his own…hope you are doing well…take care…prayers…Brenda…I totally understood the weather degrees…
Claudia says
Petra lives in Scandinavia, I believe.
We have no idea when we’ll be able to receive our vaccinations, Brenda.
It’s just the way it is right now.
Stay safe!

You have amazing patience. I do love the look of that puzzle. Its been warm for Jan here. I picked up a grocery order today so Mom and I should be good for another week or more.

We’re good now. Groceries in. Snow on the way!
Stay safe, Linda.
