I’m imagining a family cooking a holiday dinner inside this vintage house. The kitchen is rather small and it’s at the back of the house. There’s so much I’d like to do with this house but it would involve finding more 3/4 scale pieces and that isn’t easy. This is the way I am, however, I start to imagine some activity happening inside the house and there I go, off on a fantasy.
I have at least 3 houses to furnish besides the one I’m currently working on!
Normally, we’d be having dinner with Rick and Doug and our mutual friends today. But, like everyone who is sane and cares about the health of others, as well as ourselves, we are staying home. We’ll have a great meal and we’ve already started listing everything we’re thankful for and I’m sure that will continue throughout the day.
We finished season four of The Crown last night. It’s good, though maybe not as powerful as previous seasons since we lived through the 80s and so much of the story is already familiar. I won’t say anything – until you’ve all seen it – about Gillian Anderson’s portrayal of Margaret Thatcher, though both Don and I have issues with it. It’s always fascinating, this story, and certain members of the Royal Family do not come off well. I’m sorry it’s over! Now we have to wait for season five.
That’s all for today my friends. I hope that, though you might be separated from your family members, that you find some joy and peace today. Goodness knows, we deserve it.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.

happy thanksgiving to you, don, everyone else here and all your families and friends. may you enjoy some favorite routines on a day filled with emotions, memories and so many changes required by the pandemic. be safe and able to talk with loved ones, one way or another. also, have lots of reasons to laugh and things for which to be grateful. if you’re watching a game, may both teams get on the board and it be a fun game to watch and may your team win. and may you have an extra slice of pie.
with love, appreciation and prayers,

A very happy Thanksgiving to you and Don, too! Like most others, we will not be having the usual gathering with family. It will just be my husband, my sister and me.
Continue to be safe and enjoy this blessed day together.

The same to you and your family, Cathy!

I hope you, Don and everyone else have a most wonderful Thanksgiving. In spite of celebrating in the pod as they say, I hope we can all find a few things to be thankful for this year. I am wishing many blessings and good cheer to everyone! Most importantly…stay safe! ;)

Thank you, Donna!

Happy Thanksgiving Claudia and Don and to all the sweet people who choose to congregate hereabouts. It’s been a tough ride this far into 2020, I know. But I am grateful for all of the kind souls I have met at Mockingbird Hill Cottage. 💖
Claudia says
Thank you, Shanna.
The same to you and Fred. xoxo

Grateful as well for Claudia, Don, & Mockingbird Cottage gatherings. Solo in California this year. Grateful to be connected though far apart from everyone. Missing those who are gone.
Love & blessings to you all.

I hope you have a peaceful day, Martha.

Happy Thanksgiving, Claudia and Don. I’ve made several dishes this morning ahead of time and soon will put the food in the oven and Brian and I will have a lovely meal, just the two of us. Of course, we wish we were gathering at my mother’s house with my aunt and uncle, but that just can’t happen safely this year. We’ll talk to Tim later on the phone and then after that, have a Zoom gathering with Mom, my aunt and uncle and a couple of cousins – one in St Louis and the other in Tacoma.
xoxo
Claudia says
Sounds like a good day, Melanie!

Wishing you and Don a lovely Thanksgiving. Mom and I are celebrating alone and we are fine with that this year. Staying safe is our Thanksgiving wish. I watched Season 4 of The Crown and it was ok. Not sure I liked the portrayals of a few characters including Margaret Thatcher. I look forward to your comments on that. Hugs!
Claudia says
You’ll get those comments sometime soon, Linda.
Happy day to you and your mom.

All farmhouses should be white with green trim! I know that little kitchen has a pot of potatoes boiling and an oven turning out warm pies. There’s a little table set for loved ones. And everyone has a smile on their face.
Happy Thanksgiving 2020. It’s so comforting to look forward to a better 2021!
Claudia says
Thank you, Roxie!

Happy Thanksgiving Claudia and Don! So thankful for your delightful blog, Claudia. Spending the day in, alone, but thinking of loved ones no longer here. My wonderful husband truly loved Thanksgiving; making the turkey and stuffing brought him great joy on Thanksgiving. And I delighted in eating them!
Claudia says
Bless you, Caroline.
I hope you had a peaceful day.
Stay safe.

It’s weird. My husband isn’t into holidays and is not a fan of turkey, and our families are halfway across the country so we never have much of anything in the way of a celebration, altho we do give thanks in our own ways. But I’ve been so restless and unsettled today just knowing that many people are staying safe, sacrificing precious family time, holding off on generational traditions…and lots of others aren’t. The emotional consequences of each decision is deep. Thanks for the visit to your charming house–I love the picture of the family in the kitchen with the oven on and the good dishes brought out and some candles on the table. Stay safe!
Claudia says
Thank you, Nora.
Stay safe!

After a day of personal reflections, cooking, Zoom chatting, let’s all remember to be thankful for our democracy. It is still standing, and OM will, somehow, if only in NY, face the music.
Claudia says
Yes, indeed. Thankfully, the voters came out and voted that fascist out and our democracy is safe. Deeply grateful for that.
Stay safe, Leslie.

It was a quiet day, that is for sure. So sad not to be with our granddaughter on her 1st Thanksgiving, but it was what had to be done. We did get to Face Time this aft, and that was good.
We are stuffed. Too much food. So, in that way, it was truly a traditional Thanksgiving!! That wasn’t necessary, but was good. Our son, DIL & little one took a walk this aft and took a plate of food and container of leftovers to an elderly neighbor who was alone. That made me happy, and one more thing to be thankful for. I am also thankful for you and all of your followers who have helped me maintain some sense of sanity these past several years. Without all of you, it would seriously have been close to impossible!! ♡
Claudia says
How lovely of your son and his family to help out someone in need of some cheer. Y
Thanks so much, Chris.
Stay safe.

I agree on “The Crown.” We’ve lived this and for Royal fans like me, I can tell much of the fiction and such. But I do think Emma Corrin is pretty remarkable. Rick said Gillian Anderson reminded him of an SNL impersonation. I somewhat agree but need to google some Thatcher video to see the real thing. The costumes/art direction, as always, are fantastic. We watched much of it yesterday on what we decided might be our all-time toughest TG together. My back went out and walking is a serious problem. Pain, too. I guess that goes hand in hand. Hopefully the doc today can give me something for that if nothing else. Turkey got done way before everything else…. not the best.
Your day sounds nice, all things considered. And yes, despite a new med diagnosis on Wednesday night, then the back on Thursday, I, too, have much for which to be grateful — most recently Rick who took very good care of me yesterday. And today. All shall be well. But not soon enough!
I love the idea of a family celebrating Thanksgiving in your doll house.
Claudia says
So sorry about your back, Jeanie! I hope you feel better soon.
Don did google some Thatcher interviews, etc., and she was much more lively and varied vocally than Anderson’s portrayal. Also, she didn’t constantly cock her head to the side, as Anderson does.
Take care of yourself!
Stay safe.
