Day Two Hundred Forty-Eight

November 16, 2020 at 9:14 am by Claudia

Late last night we decided to cancel the dumpster (probably because we were tired and I was still under the weather and it was cold and we had a major wind/thunderstorm come through) and figured we’d tackle it in the spring. But I had some qualms, knowing we might not get to it in the spring with all the other chores needing attention. Nevertheless, Don called and left a message, apologizing for the late cancellation.

This morning he felt differently. Thought we should get it done. So he called the guy again, who, magically, hadn’t heard the voice mail. So the dumpster would have arrived anyway. It will be here soon. It’s definitely going to be cold this week, but the nice thing about having it for an entire week is that we don’t have to spend all day out there.

Sometimes we are guilty of waffling about a decision.

That storm last night? I went out on the porch (it was dark) to take the hanging plants down as the wind was suddenly scary. I’ve never been through anything like it – the wind was so intense that the rain was coming in sideways – right onto the porch. I couldn’t see, I could hardly move, and I got completely soaked, all within about 3 minutes. Wow.

So here we are, about to look into boxes. Some of them I’ll just get rid of,  like the ones full of records. Even though it breaks my heart, they are warped and worthless, so I’ll have to be ruthless and toss them. Other boxes will have to be gone through. There’s an old box spring in there – what were we thinking? We didn’t know about the prevalence of field mice in those early days. And a rusty shelf unit. And lord knows what else!

It will be good to have something keeping us busy as the OM insanely tweets from the White House and Quack Doctor Scott Atlas incites violence against the Governor of Michigan.

I propose changing the rules. When a new President is elected, he moves into the WH within 2 weeks. A fast and efficient transition.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

You will feel lighter once you toss that junk…be ruthless!
Why can’t they stop picking on Michigan? They have fueled alot of hatred of Gov Whitmer and almost got her killed. Well, I do know why…..she was very critical of OM and she’s a woman.
It’s going to be a long 2 months til he’s gone.
    Take care

      She’s a woman and a Democrat.

Republican Governors who are taking the same actions are not being criticized. It makes me nuts.

      Stay safe, Marilyn.

I think it is hard for a lot of us to make a decision right now. And I really think that the Orange Man is trying to whip up his poor, stupid supporters into a war frenzy—please God, let me be wrong.

Hope your purging of the shed goes well and painlessly. It’s good that you have a few days with the dumpster to accomplish your task.

We’re off, now to the first treatment of chemo. Fingers crossed for this to go well, too.

We’ve got the dumpster for a week. We just cleared out a third of it. We’re tired, so we’ll take tomorrow off and get back to it on Wednesday.

Sending love and prayers for the treatment today, Shanna.

I agree about the two weeks- yes… hope you don’t get sick working in this weather…be glad to gave it finished. Am watching new episodes of the Crown. Do not love the actress playing Diana but that would be difficult to cast. Enjoying it as always. Prayers you feel better.

If you change the rules for two weeks maybe change to ours in the UK, they’re in Office the morning after the election!😀 None of this hanging around causing trouble.
Tackle your shed in phases otherwise it’s like that well known feeling of getting 5/8th through a task and then you’re bored.

I’m glad you are going ahead with the dumpster. It will feel good once it’s done. It is easier to toss things you know aren’t any good and we’ve all stored things to find them unusable later on. Wow that was some wind and rain. We get that here often from the hurricanes as the move through the South. It’s sunny and cooler this week so planning on more purging myself. Keeping busy, moving toward the holidays with a happy heart is my goal. Hugs!

Good call on the dumpster Claudia. Imagine how good you’ll feel come spring to have this chore behind you. We got that storm here in ct and had our giant pine tree come down right through the kitchen. Sounded like the end of the world. Ah well. No one was hurt, we get to stay in a hotel, eat out and the house smells like Christmas with all that pine now indoors.
I will be thrilled to see the back end of 2020 along with the back side of OM.

As a Brit in the USA I find the long transition period rather odd.
But I understand it is because you have so many political appointments rather than a neutral permanent civil service?

I’m not sure, to tell the truth. It’s just the way it’s always been done.

OM took all the ‘neutral’ out of civil service jobs, unfortunately!

Nothing like a good housecleaning out to make you feel lighter. Best of luck. As the saying goes if it doesn’t spark joy or you haven’t used it in a long time, get rid of it.

I was ruthless when we moved and I don’t regret it. My heirs will be glad I did.

I hope you are feeling better.

I’m glad the forces worked as they did and you are already 1/3 of the way through the job! Having a week allows you to take time off as you plow through it, and you don’t have it to think about it for next spring.

I agree with a much faster transfer of power. I also wish every state had 2 Senators. One Repub and one Dem. To pass anything would take a minimum of 51 votes. They would HAVE to learn to play well together. I am listening to Joe speak as I type this. It soothes my soul. Knowing he is pro-Union also makes my heart swell.

Take care. Glad you will rest tomorrow. We had that wind & rain on Sat into Sun. It was wild for a while here, too. Stay safe.

I’m glad you guys stayed with the decision of keeping the Dumpster. You’ll be so pleased with yourselves when the job is done. Brian had the day off today and we washed all the windows inside and out. A job we both hate, but it needed desperately to be done. Now we are walking around the house smiling because of the difference the cleaning made!

I think a lot of the country had those crazy high winds yesterday because I posted about it on FB (our big trash bins blew over) and I had comments from all over the US saying, “here, too!” My friend in Ohio had a huge tree branch come crashing down on her house and garage, damaging her roof and breaking her kitchen window!

We live in such a windy area that any window washing that I do is negated rather quickly. The rain hits the windows, they get dirty, and it’s like I’ve never cleaned them. Sigh. Good for you!

A reader of this blog had a pine tree crash into her kitchen during the winds!

I hear you on the window washing – the windows on the south side of our house – the living room and two bedrooms, get much dirtier than the windows on the other sides of our house. It must be the way the wind and rain and snow hit that south side of the house. Trust me, these south side windows will be filthy again in a month, like we never cleaned them! But for now, I am truly enjoying the sparkling clean windows in the living room. It’s like I got new glasses! ;-)

We had that wind — it was seriously creepy. And yes, Scott Atlas is on Whitmer’s case — and he has his nerve. She’s rocking it, doing the right thing and getting nothing but grief from our Speaker, rep leader and of course the Feds. Don’t start me.

I hope the dumpster project went well. It sounds like a biggie but a good one to get over!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
