Let’s look at something that has nothing to do with the election. What do you say?
I received this beauty in the mail on Saturday.
This beauty was made by the incredibly talented Arlette Shelton, who also made the sofa/settee that you all love so much. I’ve had this bookmarked on my browser and favorited in Etsy for a long time. I finally saved up enough money to buy it.
Arlette’s work is impeccable.
I always like a dash of red in a room.
A late in the day photo in the living room:
Still not sure about this wallpaper, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to take it all down and put something else up! So I will hang lots of paintings and artwork, which I’d already planned to do anyway. It will help break up some of the pattern. Though it should be said that I want a lot of pattern in the room like you see in many English cottages.
I found some wallpaper on another site that I like even more and I’m going to use it in the bedroom. It will be quite pretty up there.
Side note: I had so much fun late yesterday afternoon. One of the guys I went to high school with – actually, I’ve known him since I was 12 – organized a Zoom reunion of those of us who were involved in drama and Thespians . There were people there from the classes of 1968 – 1970 and it was so lovely to see them after so many years. We laughed a lot, sharing stories of our mentors and certain productions, but a lot of time was spent in simply filling each other in on our lives since graduation. My best friend Laural was there. Donna, my decades long friend who, incidentally, reads this blog, was there. It was such fun that we’re organizing another session in January and are tasked with finding more students from those years. I’m on it.
I was very active in theater from the age of 12 on and, between junior high school productions, summer theater productions, and high school productions, I made many friends from all over the city. Both Laural and I remember those days fondly, so seeing some of my friends from those days was just the tonic I needed. (Of course, I blow dried my hair and put on makeup! Heaven forbid they see me “as is.”)
Okay. We have to go to Lowe’s.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

Thank you, Brenda.

As someone who lives in a 17th Century English cottage in a small village in the South West UK…you have it spot on! Just need the labradors and muddy wellies!!😂
Claudia says
Wow! Thank you, Helen. That is such a compliment and I truly appreciate it!
Wellies were already on my radar!
Stay safe.
Chris K in Wisconsin says
What fun that must have been!! So great to keep connections going!
My in-laws had a chair very much like that one, and in the same color. Quite perfect for that room.
We are still enjoying wonderful temps here. Slept with the window open in the bedroom last night. In November!! I don’t think it went below 60*. It will end soon, but we have enjoyed each of these days as the rare gems that they are.
Claudia says
We are, too. We generally sleep with the window open but it’s been truly beautiful and sunny. Two more days before it gets colder again.
Stay safe, Chris!
Wendy T says
Claudia, I’d like a chair like that for naps! Enjoy your day. Already we are all feeling less burdened. Stay safe, healthy, and happy.
Claudia says
Thank you, Wendy!
Stay safe.
Linda Mackean says
I am ready to step away from the election for a bit. Love that red chair and it’s lovely in that room. How fun to connect with old friends. Wishing you a lovely fun day.
Claudia says
Yes, step away from all the BS coming from Orange Man. He can sue all he wants, but Biden won.
Stay safe, Linda.
Marilyn Schmuker says
The chair is perfect. I like the wallpaper too.
I had a library book on hold and I had forgotten what I requested….Still Life by Louise Penny! I’m not sure why I never read any of her books but I just read the first chapter and I am hooked. So, thank you for another great recommendation.
I am trying to move back to life without being constantly on edge about what OM has done or said.
We have beautiful shirt sleeve weather here in Michigan. I am going to take a walk in the woods later and just breathe.
Stay safe.
Claudia says
We do, too. Gorgeous weather! Enjoy, Marilyn.
Stay safe!
Donnamae says
Reunions are great…aren’t they? And that red chair? It compliments the wallpaper…relates to the books,,,and is a fine companion to the sofa. I’d say it’s a hit!
Stay safe! ;)
Claudia says
I’d like that chair in a life-sized version, Donna.
Stay safe!
Nora Mills says
That chair is another work of art from Arlette It’s wonderful in the room and great company for the couch. So happy that you had a great time with old pals. The weather has been so uplifting the last few days! Stay well!
Claudia says
Arlette is so, so talented!
Stay safe, Nora.
Vicki says
OMG, that chair! That CHAIR. It is gorgeous. The workmanship, the crafting of it; it’s flawless.
Feel like a new person today. In the 30s here last night in SoCalif after that marvelous little rain, but we’ve got windows thrown open, sun streaming in; the light is so good in my surroundings and in my heart and soul. I’m motivated, working on projects. Feels good; feels like a new day; a new era; a new start. The shackles are off; the wicked witch is dead. (You get my drift!)
Vicki says
ABC News article: “… Donald Trump is the first president in more than a century not to have a pet of some kind at the White House. Trump reportedly doesn’t like dogs …”
And why am I not surprised.
Anyway, fun to know Joe & Jill are bringing their two shepherds to The People’s House in January. LOVE that one dog is a rescue!
PS: I really did try to lay off the ‘news’ today (took no less than four ‘news’ channels off my DVR/line-ups [auto records for the TV]), but I feel I’m sure getting an education otherwise about transition of power as I didn’t know all what was involved and what it actually means when an outgoing president won’t concede (how it blocks the president-elect from moving forward with many things) although my wiser and calmer husband says to not worry; that it’ll all work out in the end.
Claudia says
Yes, I believe your husband is right, which is why I’m turning most of it off starting today. I found myself getting too upset again and after last weekend, which was so joyous, I am not going to let HIM steal my peace.
Stay safe, Vicki.
Claudia says
So glad you’re doing better, Vicki!
Stay safe!
jeanie says
Wow — that chair just pops in the room. I like that a lot.
Glad you had your zoom reunion. You are giving me the idea that we should try that. My friends from HS theatre spread over three or four years so a regular class reunion doesn’t do it at all. I’m glad it was a hit!
Claudia says
Same here. They cover several years and the only way to see them all – or at least, as many as we could scare up – is via Zoom.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
mary scott says
Take at least a week away from political anything. You deserve to only participate in what brings fun, joy, smiles. In fact, if you are able, take the remainder of the year off! Hope you both catch up on your sleep with pleasant dreams. Happy you had a fun reunion!
Claudia says
I did. So nice to see these people that I spent so much time with!
Thanks, Mary.
Stay safe.
Kelly says
That chair! How are you ever going to keep Caroline from coveting it?
How wonderful to be light-hearted and just have some fun!
Take care…
Kelly
Claudia says
Sssssh! Don’t tell Caroline! What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.
Stay safe, Kelly!

wowee …one of my favorite colors … and it looks great in the living room! so does the wallpaper. i do hope you get to liking the wallpaper as much as others here and i do.
i am not very quick or smart about it and know it’s too often misused with evil intent, but technology can be so helpful and fun … cases in point being your virtual reunion and us gathering here at mhc. glad you had a good time!
i am not in a good mood. someone else at work was diagnosed with covid-19 and is not following precautions (thankfully, barring an emergency, i don’t have to be around her at this point). also, i don’t know if it was lifting/carrying a 28-pound container of litter for someone’s cat that i cared for while they were in the hospital for two weeks or if it was from sleeping tight in a ball when it was very cold in here during a snowfall or what, but i have somehow wrenched my back. what i thought was a temporary ache has become bad enough that i tried sleeping in a chair because it takes me a literal five minutes to get out of bed. bad enough that i cry and cuss. bad enough that i spent three hours at an urgent care center (thankfully they agreed to call me so i could wait in my car) for medication that really hasn’t done anything (yet?). plus i am very tired for having a new anxiety about going to bed (to avoid pain because i feel much better standing up). i know it will get better, but if i may, i’d like to ask for prayers so i can keep doing things for my family. thanks very much.
sorry for whining.
and whether you knew it before or not, i keep you all in prayers, too.
hope you, don and everyone else here are safe, well and having a nice night.

Kathy, saying a special prayer tonight for you. Please take care of yourself. I always enjoy reading your comments. Barbara (in northern Canada)
kathy in iowa says
hej, barbara w …
thanks very much for the prayer, your kindness and kind words. much appreciated! :)
i’ve recently been seeing a meme about how, given the covid-19 numbers here, canada must feel like they are “living above a meth lab”. if you don’t mind sharing, how far north in canada are you? for the record, i’m in des moines. i hope that you and your loves are all safe and well and stay that way!
i’d like to stay home and take it easy, in part due to my back and in part because it is rainy here. that’s my favorite kind of weather! hope you all are having a good day, however you spend it.
thanks again.

Claudia says
I’m so sorry about your back, Kathy. As a veteran of that sort of thing, I have often slept sitting up in my chair. It’s not fun, but it does help! Sending prayers, my friend.
Stay safe.
kathy in iowa says
thanks very much, claudia, for your prayers, good wishes and kind heart.
sorry that you’ve had to deal with back pain. hope you never have it bother you again.
at the moment, this back pain is making me slow down (probably a lesson there, if i pay attention) and feel very, very, very old. and cranky. can’t forget that part, if i’m being honest. it will get better, but like december 14, 2020 and january 20, 2021, it can’t happen soon enough!
thanks again for your support.
hope you and don have a safe, easy, well day today!

Claudia says
Cranky is okay. And it’s understandable!
