Taken 22 years ago on the morning following our wedding.
Oh, how young we were! It’s all relative, isn’t it? We were in our forties.
Today is our 22nd anniversary and it’s a dark and very rainy day out there, courtesy of the remains of the Hurricane Delta. I didn’t sleep well – again – so I’m not as chipper as usual.
But none of that really matters. I’m happy to be here, in our nest, celebrating the day we got married in Nevada City, California.
A simple wedding, attended by Don’s brother and his wife and two of our friends. A beautiful, crisp fall day. I had a walking cast on my ankle that I had desperately wanted removed before the wedding but no, it hadn’t fully healed, so I had to come down a flight of stairs holding onto my sister-in-law’s arm, carefully navigating those steps. The moment I saw Don from the top of the stairs I started crying. When he saw me, he started crying. Then everyone was crying. It was beautiful, stress-free, heartfelt, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
After the ceremony, we rode through the streets of Nevada City in a horse-drawn carriage. It was Columbus Day then, as well, so everyone was out and about, waving at us and applauding as we passed. That was followed by an intimate dinner with our friends.
Perfect in every way.
And it still is.

Happy anniversary, and happy Canadian Thanksgiving! Three different people have taken us for rides to see the fall colours. They are amazing this year. Our children live at a distance so it is just the two of us for a quiet dinner. I did make a pumpkin pie, my first ever!

I could picture it all … because Nevada City is where one of my favorite Christmas movies by Hallmark was filmed.
it’s The Christmas Card. and not the usual Hallmark type. Ed Asner is in it and almost steals the show! but I love the lead actors too. they’re wonderful.
but the backdrop of Nevada City and the whole area is absolutely breathtaking.

Happy Day and Happiest of Anniversaries!! I watch the same movie that tammy mentioned, and consider Nevada City as a huge part of my love of that movie. I watch it whenever this current situation gets to be too much for me, so as you know, I watch it a lot!!

ps: i had a cast on one foot when i was a bridesmaid. the bride was not happy that i had to kind of lurch down the aisle, but was understanding … and glad that i didn’t need to use crutches during the ceremony. me, too. :)
