Day Two Hundred Thirty-Seven

November 5, 2020 at 9:22 am by Claudia

Is anyone else as exhausted as I am?

After my crazed cleaning of the bathroom yesterday, I removed all the hardware from our now-defunct mini blinds and installed all of the new hardware – with a 30+ year old drill and an old-fashioned screwdriver. Note to self: ask for new drill that all drives in screws for Christmas. I’m not kidding, my hands are so sore from using a screwdriver to secure all of the hardware on five windows. And I messed up on one of them, had to remove the screws, reposition it, and do it all over again – twice. But they’re up and they work beautifully. I got them online from Select Blinds and I’m very happy with them. (You can’t see them, they’re under the shades.) We still have to order blinds for our bedroom and the bathroom, but they’re hanging in there, so I’m going to wait.

Meanwhile, Don was trying to deal with some issues with his car and also had to replace the handle on the downstairs toilet. I know that all of that crazed energy came from lack of sleep and waiting for the election results. By the end of the day we had crashed. I’m really sore from contorting my body in order to reach the windows and having to kneel on the sideboard (pictured above) because it’s too heavy to move. (Kneeling hurts my knees these days.) Don is sore, too. So we’re taking it easy today but I woke up too early – again – and couldn’t turn my brain off.

Meredith arrived at the house of one of the children she treats to find a big sign on their fence with OM photoshopped to look like Rambo. They’re Trumpers, of course. OM was a draft dodger, for heaven’s sake. He can’t even lift a glass of water with one hand.

These people are deluded and sad cult members.

Let’s get back to basic facts:

If a deadly virus is airborne, you wear a mask.

If an election has just occurred, you count all the votes.

Simple.

And so we wait. And wait. OM is doing exactly what was predicted, filing frivolous lawsuits trying to stop the counting of votes. The spineless GOP is finally starting to edge away from him. Too little, too late, traitors – we won’t forget.

But it’s getting warmer here and it’s sunny! I moved the porch plants back outside yesterday and seeing the sun surely helps during all of this.

Thinking of all of you. Hang in there.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

Pretty blinds! That is a fine looking sideboard! I love the curved shelves near the drawers. What do you store in there?

We store paperwork and that sort of thing.

I haven’t done the healthy thing. I have been glued to the returns on TV in between fits/bouts of sleep, the 3rd blending into the 4th and now blending into the 5th of this new month. Too much emotion/nail-biting; I can’t take much more of the roller coaster. Maybe we’ll have a clearer picture of who’s the likely winner by the end of today.

After my husband’s online cart got dumped of everything he’d loaded, including paper towels, everything ‘out of stock’, he decided he’d better go physically to the grocery stores/big-box stores this morning, so I guess that’ll be a good distraction, ’cause all the stuff will have to go thru the disinfecting relay and be put away once he gets back to our town.

Sorry you’re stiff and sore, but it was wise of you to get away from the TV and not be like I’ve been.

I still know four, FOUR people (singles and couples) who are trying to find a way to move to Canada, and it ain’t easy; they really don’t want us (even if it wasn’t Covid). One person is an actively-employed CPA/Controller; another is a lawyer; yet another has quite a lot of money. None of that seems to be good enough. Can’t blame Canada. They’ve already got it so together with the people they already have. But if my friends/acquaintances can’t figure it out, I probably never will. Another couples-friend moved to Australia and it STILL took them almost three years to wade thru the red tape, and that was with the wife even having relatives there. They’d actually almost given up, but then their house burned down in one of our SoCalif wildfires three years ago, so that accelerated the impetus to leave.

But the other side of me hopes upon hope that we will strengthen our democracy with good leadership that will come with Joe Biden, who’s a healer, not a divider.

I’m most likely a Canadian citizen and could pursue that, as my Mom was born there – I’ve investigated it. But even so, I think it would be hard to move there. We’re older and what can we contribute to the economy there?

      Stay safe, Vicki.

Move to France Claudia ah! ah ! Paris will welcome you with open arms.

Enough with the jokes. in France we follow the election of your future president and we remain speechless before the words of your current puppet president. stop counting the ballots !! because it suits him … unimaginable !! this guy is really a degenerate. for us, the French, it is a serious attack on democracy. this guy has the makings of a dictator.

Courage Claudia et gardez confiance. On vous soutient.

P.s last week we started our second confinement thanks to people who did not respect the sanitary rules in summer(youngs for the most part).
this new wave is very murderous, as much as the first and it is distressing.

I am completely unable to divert my attention from the USA at the moment.

I see/ hear lots of good , kind Americans saying/ doing good and kind things, being balanced and refusing to respond to the increasingly chaotic demands of Trump et al.

        All will be well.

you and don put all that nervous energy (as i call it) to good use! hope don’s car work is done and you both can take it easy today. the blinds look great up there behind the roman shades … beautiful like that sideboard and its contents. hope you get that new drill and everything else on your wish-list.

i have wood floors, too, and a couple pieces of very heavy furniture so i put those little felted coasters underneath each leg; makes it so much easier to move the furniture for putting art on the walls or dusting. just a suggestion that you’ve probably already considered.

it’s been in the mid- to upper 70s here this week and hopefully it comes your way soon. in the meantime, enjoy that sunshine!

waiting, waiting like everyone else …. that’s hard for me to do without some anxiety, but i feel more hopeful about the outcome of this election … the presidential part. do you?

ditto on those facts and best wishes and prayers for your sister for having to go into other people’s homes, especially at this time. not easy!

doing okay. just trying to take it easy here, too.

stay safe and well and please rest after all that work!

Yep. It doesn’t work. That sideboard is made of tiger oak and it’s very, very, very heavy!

I do feel more hopeful but the waiting is excruciating!

      Take care of yourself, Kathy.

We had a lot of nervous energy yesterday, too. We spread 20 bags of large bark mulch, which lasts forever, because it’s large. But it’s heavy. So, we are sore today…I could hardly walk up the stairs last night! But it took our minds off the results, and when we came inside, happily discovered that Wisconsin went for Biden!! So proud of my state…but still a lot of work to do!

That buffet in front of the window is gorgeous…nice lines. Hanging blinds takes finesse….must come from your dollhouse experiences. You do have patience.

So now we wait another day…but fingers crossed…things appear to look good. We have grocery shopping to do, then we need to replace the screens with glass in our front doors. Such excitement. Stay safe! ;)

I love seeing photos of your home. There is so much art, comfort, views, idiosyncratic touches that tell your story. The sun and mild temps today are so fresh. I’ve got the den door propped open and I can hear a light breeze rustling the leaves, an occasional bird, and a far away dog barking. Normal life. May the day be peaceful for all.

Keep hanging in there, Claudia and all your fellow supporters! I like the clock (and the Roman blinds). I know what you mean about the knees. I was one of the First Aiders at the library which means looking after staff and members of the public. Last Winter I was due to renew my certification on a 3 day refresher course. I had to decline and said it was because I wasn’t a full timer anymore. Really it was because I can’t stand the pain when I kneel down these days! I would probably need someone else to help me up from the floor, not great if you have to administer CPR😀

My son has finished work early and just walked through the door. I shouted “Has Biden won yet?” He listens to the car radio on the way home. “Not yet, they’re all still in bed in Nevada” I checked the BBC
What he really meant to say is there’s an announcement due at 9am or 5pm here.

    Keeping everything crossed for you

I’m hoping for good news from Georgia today. So much stress and yes I’m exhausted. My Mom has a test today so we will be out for a few hours. I’m hoping it clears my brain. Count every vote. Wear a mask. Continuing to feel optimistic. You and Don take care of yourselves!

I love your sideboard ~ it looks wonderfully familiar!! :-) Yes, having helpful tools does make the job easier!! Hope Santa hears your wish!

Today seems a lot more difficult than yesterday. As you said, we are all totally exhausted, both mentally and physically. And I am so very disappointed that it is this close that we HAVE to wait. Joe’s speech yesterday was wonderful.

Supposed to be in the low 70’s here through Sunday! These days are diamonds. I hope they are sailing your way. We will remain hopeful.

I’ve been watching way too much. Needles and pins. And no matter what, it will be contested. But I still watch.

Well done with the blinds. Screwdrivers are rugged on wrists and fingers. I hope you don’t have to do much like that today.

Rick has been talking about Canada too. I guess you can be there six months a year to the day (and I think that doesn’t have to be consecutive time). We looked online at property costs and rentals and they’re pricey. He’d make it full time if he could but of course, they wouldn’t take us. But the thought of getting across the border just to get away from the craziness is a lovely fantasy!

Enjoy and relax when you can.

I’m exhausted and am Canadian. That evil man has done so much damage to your
country and the World. Like you, never hated, taught my kids not to hate but in the past few years have come to hate OM. We have a few RW politicians from the Conservative Party and they are trumpers. Trudeau is the head of our Labour Party
    thank God.

I love your country and the decent friendly citizens who are the majority. Our elections
are run by the Federal Government not by the individual provinces so that alleviates so
    many problems.

Hoping and praying for an U.S. Democratic Senate in January after the runoffs in Georgia. Swear to God, I know more about your Congress and Senate than I do about
    my own.

    Stay safe and stay strong.

I too have been glued to the t.v…..I went from despair to relief in 24 hours. Biden will be our next president. He is winning Nevada and probably Arizona and Georgia and will win PA when all the votes are counted. I wonder if trump is skulking around the white house…..looking for someone to blame. I truly want to see him humiliated and put in jail. I also want to gloat.

Love the picture of your sideboard, looking through your lovely blinds to the outside..it looks very calming. I too, awoke this morning feeling absolutely exhausted and the first thing I wanted to do was listen to the news to hear the election results. It has been election overload here in Australia too and some of our broadcasters are a little exhausted from having to keep up the coverage. We are several hours ahead of you in time and most mornings, for months now, when having my second cup of coffee, I’d say to my husband when he reads the news “What’s Donald Done Today?” There was always something incredulous.

Hang in there, and stay strong and safe.

Here, voting is done in Digital Machines, and everyone HAS to vote! Its quite easy and Fast! Done in One Day! And in less than 12 hours, we know who the Voters elected!!!! 😊

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
