Day Two Hundred Three

October 2, 2020 at 9:18 am by Claudia

A brief statement on the latest news: We have reached the point in a presidency that has been full of lies where one of my first responses to the latest news was to doubt it. I’m not a conspiracy theorist but when the boy cries wolf repeatedly…well, you know how that tale goes.

The recklessness of OM and his administration is well documented. Crying hoax, making fun of those wearing masks, downplaying the seriousness of the coronavirus. Just this week, the T family took their masks off at the debate despite the request from the Cleveland Clinic to wear them, OM went to fundraiser in NJ yesterday despite knowing Hope Hicks had tested positive. How many people at the White House have been endangered? How many people at the Fund Raiser, the debate?

I don’t wish anyone ill, but I will admit I don’t feel a lot of empathy at the moment. Over 200,000 Americans are dead because he was more worried about his reelection campaign than he was about the welfare of the people he had pledged to protect. And he spread and continues to spread disinformation about the virus.

Okay. Moving on.

The top of the back forty. Yesterday was beautiful and the fall color was extraordinary. I’ve taken lots of photos and I’ll share them with you over the next few days. It’s raining today. We need it, so I welcome it. But it feels damp and cold!

The Zoom meeting with former students and Rick was wonderful. It started at 9 pm and it went on until well after 11:00 – way past my bedtime. It was so wonderful to talk to them. We shared memories of Ben. We caught up with each other. I’m so proud of these people, these extraordinary human beings. They’re out there doing wonderful things. They’re smart and compassionate and loving and just plain good people. And we laughed a lot. I brought Don in for the last part of it, as he knows all of the students.

Then the news broke about Hicks having COVID, so we were up way later than we usually are.

During the day, I worked on the floor for the dollhouse.

I’m doing wide plank floors with craft sticks. I have some wide plank floors in the bedroom of Hummingbird Cottage. This is slow, painstaking work. I stain each stick separately as I learned long ago that assembling the floor, glueing it down, and then staining it can cause it to warp. So, it’s one at a time. I have to cut off the curved ends of the sticks and measure and cut each plank separately. This took me a few hours. I like thick wood floors. I think they look better – there’s a texture there that you can’t get with a thin laminate or veneer. More later today.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

If the diagnosis is true (and I am mean and I do wish awful things for this tyrant who has shredded our democracy), I hope he gets as ill as he deserves. But I also thought the timing of the announcement was questionable. It gives him an out on many things in the next two weeks at least. I’m sure Republican toadies will say that Biden gave it to him somehow. I have this fantasy that he will croak before the election and what will happen if the incumbent is dead and all of the absentee ballots have been sent out and it’s too late to add another candidate? Do the Trump votes go to Spence or will Melanie become the first female President, taking over like many Senate wives have done after their husbands die. This movie never ends!

Aside from that, thank you for the beautiful photos of the South Forty. We’ve had long and beautiful evenings here with the low sun has washed the already golden leaves with more gold and honey and everything glows. I really miss a porch right about now.

The floor in the dollhouse looks so rich! Lots of work, but so much more beautiful than flat flooring. I’m glad you’re getting time to work on it.

Very happy to hear about your healing phone call to honor the life of your friend. Claudia, thanks for letting us be on this journey with you. Tune in tomorrow for As The World Turns…maybe Mitch and Melania have a thing and he is infected too!

But he already said he wouldn’t participate in the next debate if they changed the rules. So he already has an out. And he likes to be considered strong and virus-free and none of this news will further that image. What I wish is for him to be alive and well so he can be prosecuted on January 20th.

      Thanks so much, Nora.

      Stay safe.

Watching from Canada, I can only hope that all the people the OM infected as he blatently disregarded health advice, recover. As for OM, I only hope that he gets what he deserves….Karma!
On another note, I love the wood floors! Beautiful.

Karma’s a bitch. And isn’t an important story here that it appears the white house was trying to keep this info. from the public? Hicks was around EVERYONE. And on another topic . . . the question isn’t why did it take clown so long to denounce white supremacy — if he really has — but why do the white supremacists and all related ilk support him??? We know the answer: they’re kindred spirits.

Yes, it took a reporter to break the story and then they had to fess up.

      Of course they’re kindred spirits.

      Stay safe, Chris.

I wonder if this is a ploy to garner sympathy after his shameful performance at the debate, hence, change the subject (and it did). I am hoping he has a full recovery and is in good health to face the onslaught of legal charges waiting and the subsequent jail time that follows.

    Be safe.

I tend not to believe that. It doesn’t help him, having told people repeatedly not to wear masks as well as calling it a hoax. He just looks more ignorant and foolish than he already did. I would like to see official test results from Walter Reed, however.

Also, a reporter broke the story, the White House was trying to keep it a secret.

      Stay safe, Anne.

My first reaction to the news was that I don’t believe it for a minute. What a convenient way to distance himself from the abomination of the debate.
My second reaction is that if it is true, he asked for it by his actions. I only hope that he hasn’t caused major outbreaks in New Jersey and elsewhere.
    What a disgrace.

He can never distance himself from that debate. What he said and did will follow him forever.

I worry about those he may have infected.

I don’t worry about him. Except that I want him to live so that he faces prosecution.

Karma’s a bitch. I don’t wish anyone death. But I wouldn’t mind if he got to see what a lot of his people are going through. My empathy score on this one is pretty low. I sure hope that Tuesday night spew doesn’t affect Joe. If the story hadn’t been broken by a reporter (v. the WH) I would be less likely to believe it. And it does one thing he didn’t want — to keep Covid front and center. My brain hurts with this October surprise. I wonder if there are more?

But my joy score on your dollhouse floor is very high! It looks terrific and in fact if I hadn’t been following along, I would have thought it a “real” house! It’s gorgeous.

I agree. But will he have any empathy? He’s a malignant narcissist.

Now, Senator Mike Lee has it and he was with Amy Coney Barrett, as was Trump. Yet, Mitch is still pushing for a hearing on October 12th.

Thanks so much for the compliment, Jeanie.

My first thought hearing OM has tested positive and he tweeted it was disbelief. But if as you say it was leaked by a reporter then it might be true. I don’t wish him death but I do hope he gets a taste of what he has put so many Americans through. He is beyond disgusting as a human and never has been or never will be my president. These days are such a roller coaster ride.

I am also happy your zoom meeting was healing for you. More loss is harder and harder to take it seems. Love the floors.

You asked about meds for my Fibromyalgia and right now I am just on a muscle relaxer to help me sleep if I need it. I’m trying to increase my activity which should help but I’ve also been diagnosed with severe osteoporosis in my lower spine so I must be careful. They are going to try to help build the bone back up so we will see what the future holds. For now I’m taking it a day at a time and praying for this election to be over and Biden to win. Hugs!

I have to admit, when I heard the news last night…a smirk involuntarily crept unto my face. I, too, have a low empathy for him and his clan. I hope he gets sick enough, but, not too sick that he won’t recover and face prosecution. All of them. I am a firm believer in Karma.

I’ve been laying low this week…it took a few days for me to recover from Tuesday night. I didn’t really have anything constructive to say…it was all a string of four letter words at first. So, I kept busy with lots of small projects, and watching a ton of movies. They have been a great distraction for me. I don’t know if you are familiar with the movie the American President or not. But the speech near the end that Michael Douglas gives is worth listening to. You can google it. I’ve been listening to it every few months through all of this, to remind me of what a president should sound like. Of what can be. Should be. Hopefully, will be!

I like your floors…they look very realistic. Stay safe! ;)

I had a bit of a personal panic attack when I heard it last night and immediately thought “hoax”. My feeling of panic was to think I was sounding as crazy as they do!!!!!! But I surely did think it. Karma, dear sweet karma. I am willing to bet that we will NOT see any marked difference in their tone and attitude, and they will remain mask-less and rallying sooner than we can imagine. They will become more smug than ever that they survived it and helped build the herd up. (They are a herd alright.)

Your new floor is beautiful. Good to have something to be able to concentrate upon right now. I will watch Nicole this aft and Rachel this eve. This weekend we will be watching how they roll out and construct this new 3 ring circus they are building. There is always more to their stories.

That’s what it’s come to – we are dealing with a pathological liar and we now no longer trust anything he or the White House says.

Mark Meadows came out to talk to the press with no mask on.

More positive cases – all were at Saturday’s announcement in the Rose Garden. Superspreaders.

I clearly remember Trump mocking Hillary Clinton’s pneumonia. He has never expressed any kindness or consideration for others. In fact he seems to enjoy others’ misfortunes. So, I am finding it hard to sympathize with him, especially in light of him making a royal mess out of the U.S. response to the virus. Forty thousand other Americans were diagnosed with covid today and I’d rather think about them.

I hate to say it but I was happy to hear the news this morning (in my heart I’m glad my mother isn’t alive to hear me say that; she’d be appalled at my unchristian behavior). I can’t help thinking of all the people some elderly, some not, who died alone in hospital beds with nurses (God love those nurses too) trying to comfort them at the end. Like Claudia I hope he lives so he can be thrown in jail in January.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
