Decorating: Broken Ornaments and Coffee Cups

December 9, 2011 at 10:52 am by Claudia

Yes, the decorating has begun. In fact, I’m almost done. On a whim, husband and I got our Christmas Tree on Wednesday, a few days earlier than usual. Yesterday, the tree was decorated. Not without mishaps: one of my favorite vintage ornaments fell and shattered into tiny shards; Don decided to have some coffee and while pouring it into a mug that had a tiny hairline crack, watched in horror as the mug exploded into pieces and coffee spilled onto everything – including Riley.

Now Riley smells like coffee.

Outside lights are up.
Trees are decorated.
Wreaths are hung.
House is a mess.

After I finish up today, the big bins will be carted back to their home in the shed.

I might even store all the summery porch paraphernalia. This is the longest I have ever let that particular chore go.

The dollhouse has been moved to the living room to make room for the Christmas tree. The decorating elves worked a little magic here, as well.

Don’t forget – next Tuesday’s Holiday edition of Defending the Small House will include a Linky Party. Take some pictures of your holiday home and share them with us!

Your doll house has become a star and has a wonderful personality. Now I look at dollhouses in every collectibles mall I visit. Loved visiting today.

Ah claudia, I LOVE IT! YOur porch floor on the doll house is painted like my romantic porch floor at the old house!!!!Happy Dance!!! I have loved your blog since the moment I found it. I read it almost everyday but I’m sorry I’m short on leaving comments. Sometimes my computer won’t let me and sometimes I’m just too pressed for time and I have to hurry and check up on all my bloggy girlfriends and make sure they are ok but I guess they have no idea that I care, do they? Sigh! Anyway, I have some crochet snow flakes and some crochet mitten ornaments that I want to mail to you if you will email me your address. You said you are done with your decorating, but…I think maybe you can find a place for these!

Sorry for all the annoying incidents. Riley must smell good. Watch out, he might become hooked on coffee. Love that white wreath with the silver balls and I love what you did to your little house. Very cheerful! I am just now putting up my artificial tree. I’m just done with the lights, the thing that I detest the most in life to do. Hurray, it’s done for another year. Hope there will be many more years of putting up the lights, however, even though I hate to do it! Have a wonderful day, Claudia!

Those ornaments are so darn fragile! Luckily, the carpet under my living room tree saves the ornaments that might fall but not so for my little dining room tree! I really have to be careful with that one! I recently was getting a cup heated from the microwave and didn’t realize it had heated up the handle and as I reached for it it went flying along with the hot chocolate I was warming. What a mess! The dollhouse is looking very festive! I have mine decorated too. Hopefully I will post about it this weekend.~Hugs, Patti

Oh gosh… hope the coffee did not burn Riley or Don! What a mess, but cups just don’t last forever do they?

I know how you feel. On the day before Thanksgiving, I broke my great grandmother’s serving platter. I was broken hearted.

Your dollhouse is looking so festive! I just finished decorating The Little Pink House today and will be posting photos soon. At least our little house decorations don’t take up too much storage, eh?! (Wish I could say the same for my people-size house!)
    Hugs,

Your little house looks so beautiful Claudia- and I love the white wreath- I`m sure your tree is very beautiful, despite the accidents you had- good that no one was really hurt.
    Happy week-end to you.

    Hi Claudia,
We were never warned of the dangers of decorating for Christmas, I suppose we just have to experience it. Seems as though I always break an ornament or the lights don’t work! LOL!
I’m glad that Don didn’t cut or burn his hand.

I have two bottle wreaths just like yours and I love them. Wish I had more. Found mine at Big Lots and went back for more but they were gone.

Your doll house is looking very pretty too.

    hugs

I’m sorry about the broken ornament and cup. Exploded, huh? Wow, I hope he didn’t get burned.

Well, I guess there are worse things of which Riley could smell! Hope he is OK.
May I just move into your little dollhouse for the holidays? It looks like the perfect place to spend them!

Your wreath is gorgeously vintage looking, and your doll house is looking festive!

Awwwww, poor Riley! Well coffee smell isn’t so bad. I actually like the smell of coffee; and let’s face it, there are worse smells a dog could be blamed for! Sometimes I’m very grateful for the terrible sense of smell I seem to have. I can be at the perfume counter, and have the worst time just TRYING to smell the sample bottles. Often I have to ask the salesgirl, “Do YOU like it?”.. Oh well, love your wreath, and that gorgeous doll house (swoon).. Hope you’re enjoying your weekend, and this holiday season! ~tina

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
