Decorating the Tree

December 15, 2022 at 8:59 am by Claudia

Out of all the Blythe-related photos I’ve taken over the past year, this is my favorite:

Imogen is ready to hang an ornament and Pippa is looking up at the tree. The magic of Christmas.

It took some fiddling and I had to add a support for Imogen; Pippa is somehow posing without any help. Actually, the final photo turned out better than my original concept.

And, I forgot to put the girls back on the shelf last night and they’re STILL holding these poses!

I tell you, these girls provide endless delight.

Reader Elaine is the person who originally informed me of the existence of sweater ornaments. She lives in Toronto and found a cute one at Canadian Tire. She also passed along photos of the Target sweaters. So I sent her two Target sweaters and she sent me two sweaters from Canadian Tire and here they are. They arrived yesterday.

The red is deeper than this, but reds are hard to capture. Thank you, Elaine. I’m going to do my snipping and binding at the back of the neckline so I can wrestle them on two of the girls. Aren’t they cute? VERY Christmassy.

We are getting a lot of ‘weather’ over the next two days. Snow, rain, snow, rain – with the final amount anyone’s guess. So we’re going to hunker down here at the cottage. Next week – if the forecast holds up – up to 10 inches of snow on the December 22nd and 23rd. Whoa, Nellie!

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

It’s icy and snowy today – rather dangerous out there!

      Stay safe, Barrie.

    cute sweaters, too.

yesterday my sister taught me a pattern for knitting something new and i am now 3/13 of the way done on my first-ever dishcloth. feels good.

have a couple more things to get, then wrap presents. that feels good, too. planning to make casseroles and lasagna for Christmas and new year’s eve/day. that will be good, too.

    happy, safe thursday to everyone!

I’ve knitted dish cloths – one of the first things I did when I started knitting many years ago. Have fun.

      Stay safe, Kathy.

Your expression “Whoa, Nellie!” reminded me of my dear Grandma who was called Nellie. Her actual name was Ellen and I am named after her. Thanks for the happy memory today, Claudia!

You’re welcome. My favorite aunt’s best friend was named Nellie. She was a beautiful and elegant woman. You’ve just brought her back into my thoughts. Thank you.

      Stay safe, Ellen.

So cute! I have a very hard time getting my girls balanced in their stance. I’m not a big fan of the Blythe stands. Otherwise I do love These dolls. We still have quite a bit of snow on the ground, so it’ll be interesting to see what we get tonight. Enjoy your minimal but festive decorations. Stay warm and safe in the storm

I use other kinds of stands rather than the standard Blythe stand. I sometime use wooden skewers, sticking the pointed end between the floor boards or boards of the picnic table on the porch. There are also other stands out there. If you want some links to them, let me know.

      Stay safe, Nora.

Sounds like you and Don will have a white Christmas. Imogen and Pippa sure look cute trimming the tree. Can’t wait to see the girls in their red sweaters. They will look very festive, indeed. Hugs, Elaine

A fun photo of Imogen and Pippa! It’s a dark dreary day here in southern NJ. We’re getting steady rain that is supposed to end tomorrow. We have been in a rain pattern here the last couple of weeks. The sun has been intermittent at best. I would love to have some snow for Christmas. So glad your snowblower is repaired and up for the challenge of your snowy forecast.

Dark and dreary here, as well! Rain/snow/rain/snow which makes for a dangerous combination.

Fingers crossed for just snow next week.

      Stay safe, Denise.

The sweater ornaments from C. Tire look VERY well made! With the Target sweater ornaments, I was quite taken as well with the detailing of the embroidery (snowflake) AND the teeny sequins masquerading as ornaments for the tree embellishment. Amazing detail for things so small. (And affordable!) Target online sold out of the white sweaters so fast, so I have one white and one cocoa-tan; just glad to get what I got, no matter how I ultimately use/enjoy them. I’ve been so glad you brought up this whole subject, Claudia! I had never paid too much attention to sweater ornaments; never too much into the whole Ugly Xmas Sweater thing either (but I have new appreciation for these ‘knitted’ little treasures, which are revealing pretty-good quality/craftsmanship).

Well, you’re not seeing the back of one of them where the pattern is crooked! But they’re fine. I’m going to open up the back of the necks today so I can put them on the girls. Now, which ones?

      Stay safe, Vicki.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
