A young one. Look at that sweet face, staring right back at me as I took a photo through the kitchen window. This morning I arose rather early and it was still a bit darkish outside. I went to let Scout out, realizing too late that there was yet another deer in the corral. Fortunately, Scout was a big groggy and it took her a second or so to realize just what was going on and the deer turned and jumped gracefully over the fence, flying across the back forty.
When I saw these guys feeding yesterday afternoon, I called to my husband as I grabbed my camera: Look! Don! Some deer!
Don: I’ve pretty much seen all there is to see about the deer.
Me: What? You don’t want to leap up, as I do, every time there is a photo op???
Don is over it. And he doesn’t have a camera obsession like I do. I just hope I can get him to take some photos of Prague with his iPhone.
I’m happy to say that the Wi-Fi problem here is resolved, thanks to a cable employee who immediately got the situation and quite readily said that my router would be better than anything the cable company had. I love it when an employee is upfront and honest with me. Ten minutes later, my router was back in business, I had a strong, consistent signal and we were good to go.
I’m anxiously awaiting the hard copy of Twelfth Night. The director has made some cuts and, now that they are finalized, I should shortly be receiving it in the mail. I have to start work on it. I’ve coached Twelfth Night at least 4 or 5 times in the past, but have I saved any of the scripts with all my notes in them?
No.
There’s only so much space around here and I usually end up tossing them. And then I have to start all over again. Oh, for a big office/studio space of my own, in its very own room, with four walls and lots of storage space. And a door.
Note coffee stained reference book. A year ago, I had an unfortunate incident with a bag of books and a coffee cup, while trying to juggle too many things as I made my way to the car. Bad Claudia.
Just had to stick this in the post. She’s awfully pretty, isn’t she?
More egg cups:
On the left: To be honest, this might be a toothpick holder, but I choose to call it an egg cup. Love, love that sweet face.
Center: This one was found in California. Those are my colors, how could I resist?
Right: A goose egg cup, made in France.
Some of you have remarked about how hard these figural egg cups are to find nowadays. And you’re right. Back when I started collecting, about 10 years ago, I would haunt eBay, often sneaking out of our bedroom in the wee hours of the morning to put a last minute bid on one I particularly wanted. There was much more variety in those days. I spent some time on eBay the other day and was disappointed in the lack of interesting egg cups, which, unfortunately, has been the case for the past couple of years. For that reason, I haven’t added to the collection lately, the goose egg cup being an exception. I found that a year or two ago in a local shop and I pounced on it! I’ve never seen another one like it.
I apologize for not responding to comments yesterday. The day got away from me. That will happen occasionally. But I read them all and I’m so grateful for them. Thanks, friends.
Oh, please visit my sister’s blog for two posts about a surprise that Mer found wrapped inside a quilt my grandmother had made for her. It’s the best story! Visit here andΒ here.
Happy Wednesday.

Yes, we all have those days, no time to comment as we would like………..sometimes it’s just overwhelming. Then the day comes to a close so quickly, the comfy bed with a waiting book looks so inviting, the laptop is shut down! Last night I read until 2 AM – so this morning a late start.
Love the goose egg cup – very unusual.
Have a good one Claudiia – tell Don we’ll excuse him from deer pics but he MUST take Prague pics and we’ll be waiting! Prague is at the top of my wish list – next year hopefully!
Hugs – Mary

I know! He’d better take some pictures!

Claudia, I always say that things are very relative. For instance, my very close friend is 75 and would LOVE to be my age,(62) every bit as much as I would Love to be 45. Having said that, I would LOVE to have Your little studio space. While I do realize you are talking about much much more because this is your profession and you do a lot of your work from your home. Hmm m, that doesn’t make sense, forget I wrote this. Thank-You so much for this blog I Love it.- Judy A-
Claudia says
You’re welcome, Judy!
Kris says
Those egg cups are darling! What I wouldn’t give to see deer feeding in my yard!!!
XO Kris
Claudia says
I know – we’re pretty lucky.
Haworth says
The deer are so sweet, Claudia, I never tire of seeing your photos. And I do love the little egg cup in the middle today. (I’m a flowery girl.) When it comes to paper, I’m like you and I try to scale down when I can, but then I hate finding that something I’ve thrown away is something I need. It makes me nuts! Miss Scout is certainly looking relaxed … I wish I were home, resting like that!
Claudia says
Scout has a good life, Haworth!
Haworth says
She certainly does! By the way, as promised I sent a pattern and photos of crocheted Lace Fan bookmarks (made with small hooks and lace-weight yarn) to your email. xx
SUSIE says
Claudia, I am loving seeing all your egg cups. Nice collection. I like seeing deer…but that close, they may eat your plants.:(
Take care, the real spring is on it’s way. xoxo,Susie
Claudia says
I don’t mind if they eat my plants – actually we have enough vegetation around here with the woods and the bushes that they don’t disturb my plants too much.
Patti says
Don must have his upcoming trip on his mind. My husband loves to see the deer when they are around our house. He’s even been known to talk to them quite loudly from across the street as if they were little babies. It’s cute but embarrassing. I am going to be keeping my eye out for egg cups…I really can’t remember ever seeing any in all the times I have bee out antiquing. I love the little goose one with the long neck…too cute! ~Hugs, Patti
Claudia says
I talk to them, too, Patti!

Good morning, Claudia!! I love the faces on your backyard visitors!! We have quite a few that visit us also – I think they are enjoying all the new greenery that is sprouting after the long winter… Glad you solved your router problem!! I so appreciate when you get good service and get to the root of the problem – makes life so much more easier!! Your egg cup collection is unique and charming – I really love seeing them! Enjoy the rest of the day and the nicer weather!! Francine
Claudia says
It was sunny for a while today, Francine, but it just got cloudy. Darn!
Cranberry Morning says
Sounds like you’ve got a lot going on! And yes, Scout is adorable – and I love that pencil holder. How gorgeous is that!
Claudia says
That was a gift from another blogger! Simply because I admired it on one of her blog posts. Isn’t it great?
Melanie says
We used to have woods in back of our house when we first moved here, so I’d see deer all the time. Now the woods are gone and we have huge houses instead. I still hate it.
Yes, Scout is such a pretty girl. I always smile when I see her feet. (Love the fur that sticks out!)
I have an antique mall close to my house that I go to a few times a year. I have never seen any vintage egg cups; at least not unique, pretty ones like you have.
Claudia says
You know, when I was growing up we had a huge open field across from our house. It was owned by the Ford Motor Company, which owned a lot of property in my hometown of Dearborn Michigan. I loved that field. There were fireworks on the Fourth of July, a skating rink in the winter, you could run and play. Then Ford sold it and they built all sorts of houses there. I really hated it. So I understand.
Donnamae says
I love taking pics of deer in our yard…use my iPad, since that’s usually handy. Really do hope Don does take some pics of Prague…I can still hear my Grandmother refer to Czechoslovakia as “the old country”. She came over on a boat in 1908.
Your egg cups are so unique. Found some on etsy, but don’t know if pricing is good or not. And, yes…Scout is a cutie! ;)
Claudia says
I’m looking forward to seeing it through his eyes.
Tammy says
My husband went to Singapore and didn’t take a single picture with his iPhone. How do you go to a new country and not take pictures? I just don’t get that at all. He still thinks I am crazy running around taking photos of the sun and the moon and everything in between. :) Have a great day. Tammy
Claudia says
What’s with these guys?
Paula says
Deer in our yard are so few and far between that we do leap up and look! Once when we had a bear in the yard, our dear departed Gwinnie took one look and then became very, very small and very, very quiet. He had only a pane of glass between him and the bear in the yard, and he wasn’t taking any chances!
Cute eggs cups! And Scout!
Claudia says
Gwinnie was very wise.
Meredith says
I never ever get tired of the deer walking in my yard, what is wrong with the men we have? Love the picture of Scoutie, she looks a bit peeved the camera is out again, her Dr Seuss feet show off beautifully in this picture.
Love you,
Mere
Claudia says
She is a cutie.
Nancy Blue Moon says

Claudia says
You too, Nancy!
Linda @ A La Carte says
No deer visit our yard here but I do see some at a friends house occasionally! I have a small collection of egg cups but most of mine are not figural. You are right that they are hard to find. Makes your collection even more special. Oh Scout is a beauty for sure. Hope you are having a good day. I am home and oh so happy!!!
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
So glad to hear you’re home, Linda! Enjoy every minute.
Tana says
There is something about coffee and tea stains on books that I find comforting. That may not be the right word, but can’t think of another. It’s just that I would never toss out a book because of the stain. It might have something to do with the color of the pages and the color of the stain that I find likable. Love your egg cups again. I want you to find hundreds more so the pictures of them won’t end anytime soon. I also finished making the fabric eggs you have. I have nine of them sitting in a green pedestaled candy dish which was my MIL’s. They look wonderful.
Claudia says
I know exactly what you mean, Tana. It means they’re well read, loved. So glad you made the fabric eggs! They’re fun, aren’t they?
Suzan says
Really like the goose egg cup!
Claudia says
Me too, Suzan!
Betsy says
Good Morning Claudia! I enjoyed the picture of the deer again today. I never get tired of seeing deer in pictures, in pastures by the roadside or anywhere else for tht matter. And Scout looks very content. Thanks for letting us all peek into your world.
Blessings,
Betsy
Claudia says
You are always welcome, Betsy!
Cheapchick says
Make sure Don buys a roaming package for Prague before he goes so he doesn’t end up with a $$$ phone bill while gone. I never tire of the deer either – see them almost every day here too.
Claudia says
I think he’s going to get a phone card and use that. And we’ll email, of course.
Laura says
I love all of your egg cups. I do think the one is a toothpick holder, but very sweet none the less. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a dedicated room just for work, sewing, ……… I look forward to that day some day.
Hugs,
Laura
Claudia says
Yes, but it’s a toothpick holder with an egg, so I’m officially making it an egg cup (at least in my little world!)
GardenOfDaisies says
You are very lucky that the deer have chosen to share your space with you. :-) They are gorgeous creatures. I love all your egg cups and have enjoyed seeing them up close.
Claudia says
Thank you – we are lucky to have them on the property. I really love them.
Beverly says
My husband is pretty good about taking photos he thinks I might want.
Love that goose cup.
Claudia says
Isn’t it cute?
Suzan says
Hi Claudia,
Every time I see a picture of Scout I think of my Marmalade. Scout looks like a great friend!
Suzan
Claudia says
She is – she’s a great girl.
Judy Clark says
Tell Don that the blogging community will be severely disappointed if he gets to go to Prague and we don’t at least get some photos! LOL
Have a very blessed Easter dear friend.
