Deer, Wi-Fi, Shakespeare & Egg Cups

A young one. Look at that sweet face, staring right back at me as I took a photo through the kitchen window. This morning I arose rather early and it was still a bit darkish outside. I went to let Scout out, realizing too late that there was yet another deer in the corral. Fortunately, Scout was a big groggy and it took her a second or so to realize just what was going on and the deer turned and jumped gracefully over the fence, flying across the back forty.

When I saw these guys feeding yesterday afternoon, I called to my husband as I grabbed my camera: Look! Don! Some deer!

Don: I’ve pretty much seen all there is to see about the deer.

Me: What? You don’t want to leap up, as I do, every time there is a photo op???

Don is over it. And he doesn’t have a camera obsession like I do. I just hope I can get him to take some photos of Prague with his iPhone.

I’m happy to say that the Wi-Fi problem here is resolved, thanks to a cable employee who immediately got the situation and quite readily said that my router would be better than anything the cable company had. I love it when an employee is upfront and honest with me. Ten minutes later, my router was back in business, I had a strong, consistent signal and we were good to go.

I’m anxiously awaiting the hard copy of Twelfth Night. The director has made some cuts and, now that they are finalized, I should shortly be receiving it in the mail. I have to start work on it. I’ve coached Twelfth Night at least 4 or 5 times in the past, but have I saved any of the scripts with all my notes in them?

No.

There’s only so much space around here and I usually end up tossing them. And then I have to start all over again. Oh, for a big office/studio space of my own, in its very own room, with four walls and lots of storage space. And a door.

Note coffee stained reference book. A year ago, I had an unfortunate incident with a bag of books and a coffee cup, while trying to juggle too many things as I made my way to the car. Bad Claudia.

Just had to stick this in the post. She’s awfully pretty, isn’t she?

More egg cups:

eggcups11

On the left: To be honest, this might be a toothpick holder, but I choose to call it an egg cup. Love, love that sweet face.

Center: This one was found in California. Those are my colors, how could I resist?

Right: A goose egg cup, made in France.

Some of you have remarked about how hard these figural egg cups are to find nowadays. And you’re right. Back when I started collecting, about 10 years ago, I would haunt eBay, often sneaking out of our bedroom in the wee hours of the morning to put a last minute bid on one I particularly wanted. There was much more variety in those days. I spent some time on eBay the other day and was disappointed in the lack of interesting egg cups, which, unfortunately, has been the case for the past couple of years. For that reason, I haven’t added to the collection lately, the goose egg cup being an exception. I found that a year or two ago in a local shop and I pounced on it! I’ve never seen another one like it.

I apologize for not responding to comments yesterday. The day got away from me. That will happen occasionally. But I read them all and I’m so grateful for them. Thanks, friends.

Oh, please visit my sister’s blog for two posts about a surprise that Mer found wrapped inside a quilt my grandmother had made for her. It’s the best story! Visit here and here.

Happy Wednesday.

Yes, we all have those days, no time to comment as we would like………..sometimes it’s just overwhelming. Then the day comes to a close so quickly, the comfy bed with a waiting book looks so inviting, the laptop is shut down! Last night I read until 2 AM – so this morning a late start.

Love the goose egg cup – very unusual.
Have a good one Claudiia – tell Don we’ll excuse him from deer pics but he MUST take Prague pics and we’ll be waiting! Prague is at the top of my wish list – next year hopefully!

    Hugs – Mary

Claudia, I always say that things are very relative. For instance, my very close friend is 75 and would LOVE to be my age,(62) every bit as much as I would Love to be 45. Having said that, I would LOVE to have Your little studio space. While I do realize you are talking about much much more because this is your profession and you do a lot of your work from your home. Hmm m, that doesn’t make sense, forget I wrote this. Thank-You so much for this blog I Love it.- Judy A-

The deer are so sweet, Claudia, I never tire of seeing your photos. And I do love the little egg cup in the middle today. (I’m a flowery girl.) When it comes to paper, I’m like you and I try to scale down when I can, but then I hate finding that something I’ve thrown away is something I need. It makes me nuts! Miss Scout is certainly looking relaxed … I wish I were home, resting like that!

I don’t mind if they eat my plants – actually we have enough vegetation around here with the woods and the bushes that they don’t disturb my plants too much.

Don must have his upcoming trip on his mind. My husband loves to see the deer when they are around our house. He’s even been known to talk to them quite loudly from across the street as if they were little babies. It’s cute but embarrassing. I am going to be keeping my eye out for egg cups…I really can’t remember ever seeing any in all the times I have bee out antiquing. I love the little goose one with the long neck…too cute! ~Hugs, Patti

We used to have woods in back of our house when we first moved here, so I’d see deer all the time. Now the woods are gone and we have huge houses instead. I still hate it.

Yes, Scout is such a pretty girl. I always smile when I see her feet. (Love the fur that sticks out!)

I have an antique mall close to my house that I go to a few times a year. I have never seen any vintage egg cups; at least not unique, pretty ones like you have.

You know, when I was growing up we had a huge open field across from our house. It was owned by the Ford Motor Company, which owned a lot of property in my hometown of Dearborn Michigan. I loved that field. There were fireworks on the Fourth of July, a skating rink in the winter, you could run and play. Then Ford sold it and they built all sorts of houses there. I really hated it. So I understand.

I love taking pics of deer in our yard…use my iPad, since that’s usually handy. Really do hope Don does take some pics of Prague…I can still hear my Grandmother refer to Czechoslovakia as “the old country”. She came over on a boat in 1908.

Your egg cups are so unique. Found some on etsy, but don’t know if pricing is good or not. And, yes…Scout is a cutie! ;)

He still thinks I am crazy running around taking photos of the sun and the moon and everything in between. :) Have a great day. Tammy

Deer in our yard are so few and far between that we do leap up and look! Once when we had a bear in the yard, our dear departed Gwinnie took one look and then became very, very small and very, very quiet. He had only a pane of glass between him and the bear in the yard, and he wasn’t taking any chances!

    Cute eggs cups! And Scout!

There is something about coffee and tea stains on books that I find comforting. That may not be the right word, but can’t think of another. It’s just that I would never toss out a book because of the stain. It might have something to do with the color of the pages and the color of the stain that I find likable. Love your egg cups again. I want you to find hundreds more so the pictures of them won’t end anytime soon. I also finished making the fabric eggs you have. I have nine of them sitting in a green pedestaled candy dish which was my MIL’s. They look wonderful.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
