We have a huge spider web right outside our front door. Pretty impressive!
The rain and storms continue. We’d already been having storms and rain, but yesterday, and I suppose today, are due to tropical storm Elsa moving up the east coast. It’s been endless. Yes, I know some of you would love all this rain. Nevertheless, we are water logged and the storms have been huge and we were caught in the middle of a foggy and powerful thunderstorm yesterday and we could barely see five feet in front of the car. There are flood advisories all over this region and if you saw any pictures from NYC yesterday, you’ll have seen the flooding there. Too much unrelenting rain and wind.
Right here at the cottage, my worry has been about mama robin, but she has weathered the storm. When I came downstairs this morning, I peered out the window to see if she was on the nest but I had to wait until it got a little lighter. Then I saw her. She’s amazing. Pelted with wind and rain for hours at a time and she remains on the nest. She’s my hero.
So basically, as boring as it might be, that’s been our life for the pasts 48 hours and it will continue through the day today. Rain. Wind. Thunderstorms. Lightning. And repeat.
My kingdom for some sun.
Because of all of that and having to run the a/c as well as taping Don’s audition today, I haven’t been able to get back to my painting. Hopefully, today. I need a little creative time.
Sorry these last few posts have been so boring, but that’s our life at the moment.
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.

Glad your safe! Good luck with Don’s audition. Looking forward to your next Roseville painting.
Claudia says
Thank you Ellen!
Stay safe.
Marilyn Schmuker says
Oh my goodness! That spider web is amazing. I’m glad to hear mama robin is doing ok.
My granddaughter saw an infectious disease specialist yesterday. More blood work to try to identify the virus, including lyme again. Unless it turns out to be that her treatment doesn’t change.
Her labwork shows white blood cells have dropped to normal and another test that indicates inflammation has dropped alot but still slightly elevated. So that’s very good news. She will also be referred now to a pediatric neurologist to see if her headache can be managed better.
I guess it’s just a matter of time.
Stay safe
Dee+Dee says
Glad to hear that she is improving, Marilyn. What a worrying time it has been for all of you. Will pray that the headaches cease.
Martha (in SF) says
Thank you for the update, Marilyn. Keeping good thoughts and prayers in your granddaughter’s direction.
XO
Claudia says
So happy to hear that things are returning to normal, Marilyn. Time will heal. You’ve all been through so much!
Stay safe.

Oh…that relentless rain is showing no mercy is it? Mama Robin is a hero…just doing what she needs to do in protecting her young.
No apologies necessary regarding your boring life….I’m quite sure my life is equally boring, if not more so…lol. Good luck to Don on the audition! Be careful out there….stay dry! ;)
Claudia says
We finally have a day where it isn’t raining. I hardly know what to do!
Stay safe, Donna.
Tana says
Not boring at all! Reminds me to say a prayer for you. It also reminds me of the places that need rain and I pray that they get some rain too. Your mama robin is amazing. I should be more like her. I know Don will be brilliant on the audition tape! You go Don!!
Claudia says
Mama robin is so dedicated!
Stay safe, Tana.

as much as i love rain (a lot), i know there’s a point where there’s just too much. sorry you’re at that point and beyond. glad you made the trip okay yesterday and hope things dry out soon for you.
best wishes to don on the audition(s).
and hooray for the robin protecting her babies. would that all people be so loving and brave and willing to make sacrifices for others.
that spider web is very impressive … and beautiful. love the colors in that photo, too.
glad i got the groceries bought and delivered last night after work because we had some rain! :) don’t know how long it lasted or if more is in the forecast, but we’ll take it. also glad that today is friday. not to wish away time … just needing a break.
hope you all have a good day and that you can paint today, claudia.

Brava momma robin! So glad she remains on the nest with her eggs!
Ah Claudia… your posts are never boring.
Your candid sharing of your life is what draws so many of us to your blog. No hype, no hyperbole, no “selling” this or that… you are truly a breath of fresh air!
Remember dear one… life is truly lived & celebrated not in the grandest of events, but through the simplest of pleasures.
Have a safe & pleasant weekend.
Martha (in SF) says
An absolute ‘ditto’ to everything Amy has said. Nothing you want to expound upon is boring in my book. 8-))
Claudia says
Thank you for your kind words, Amy! Bless you.
Stay safe.
Betsy says
Nice orb weaver web! It’s a perfect shot. I’m glad for days when my only excitement is watching “my” birds and their amazing lives.
We have had too much rain. Forecast says our area will not have a lot of wind. Hoping they are right because the equation of torrential rain plus wind equals downed trees. Do not need that again!
Have fun painting!
Claudia says
Exactly. No wind!
Thanks, Betsy.
Stay safe.
linda says
The rain is pouring down here and the wind is really bad.
I don’t mind the rain so much but the wind is scary with all the trees around us.
I hope your roof is holding up. I think you mentioned last winter you needed a new roof. We have been through that it is very expensive.
Claudia says
Eventually, we’ll have to replace it. But it’s okay for now.
Stay safe, Linda.

None of your posts are boring! Had to take the day off work today as I have very painful sciatica. I’ve had it before about eight years ago but this flare up is worse. Managed to order some strong painkillers from my doctor but my son collected them as I can barely walk.
Fortunately I am on annual leave next week but won’t be painting the kitchen as I intended!
Happy Friday
Claudia says
I’m so sorry to hear you’re in pain, Dee Dee! I hope it is relieved very soon.
Stay safe!

I love reading each and every one of your blog posts and never find them boring.

Thank you, Cathy.

Brooke in OKC says
Claudia,
It’s so interesting that you said the mama robin is your hero for enduring the elements. I said the exact same thing when, last February, OKC was minus 20 degrees (actual temp, not a “feels like”). To say that is something I have never been through in my lifetime is an understatement. No Oklahoman (or Texan for that matter) was prepared for that. BUT, my thoughts went to the little birds (and other animals) that had to be outside in it. When I began to hear them singing a few days later (still very cold), the first thing I thought was that THEY are the heroes. I’m not going to lie, I teared up a bit to see them out looking for food and singing their beautiful songs just days later when their nests must have still been covered in ice! Isn’t nature a marvelous thing? Hope you two have a wonderful, less wet, weekend. ♥
Claudia says
They’re amazing and resilient and tough! Bravo birds! Love your story, Brooke.
Stay safe!
Vicki says
Well, of course I can barely relate to this because I live in drought-plagued Southern California with virtually no rain in so, so long; shrinking lakes-reservoirs-rivers-creeks-ponds, where the ground is dust and ‘green’ isn’t a color naturally seen anymore (AND we’re beginning another miserable heatwave today [have I said please, ‘never move to California'{?}; yes, I have, but I’ll say it again: NEVER MOVE HERE; our future is uncertain; it’s not like it was in former years]).
Maybe when the hurricane goes on its way you’ll have a nice period of ‘normal’ summer weather; I hope so! The season seems too short for you. I can’t imagine the humidity with heat from this time of year; it’s bad enough here lately, but I know the eastern seaboard/Northeast gets hammered with cloying humidity. Anyway, just take it easy today; you’re never boring, Claudia.
Claudia says
Usually, August is the humid month, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for the past few years.
Stay safe, Vicki.
Lynn+Cecil says
Just wanted to say…I never find your blog boring.
Wish I could send you some sun from AZ.
Claudia says
Thank you so much, Lynn!
Stay safe.
Martha (in SF) says
My complaints are much the same as Vicki’s. It’s so dry here even the weeds are dead.
I can hardly believe that cities in the Bay Area are building, building more and more ‘affordable’ apartment buildings with not enough garage space for all the occupants. Not sure who can afford them. And where is the water coming from for those folks.
It’s ´the best of times and the worst of times.’
Claudia says
Too much building, not enough thought for the future. We see it everywhere, don’t we?
Stay safe, Martha.
Sue+Matile says
None of your posts are boring. You are just living life. I am always interested in how you picture life. You cheer me up. I have been reading books by Elly Griffiths. I am really enjoying them. We have been watching Silent Witness, Pie in the Sky, and Vienna Blood. They are either on Brit Box or Amazon Prime.
Claudia says
Thank you for your kind words, Sue!
Stay safe and enjoy Elly Griffiths!
jeanie says
Oh Claudia, I didn’t realize Elsa was coming up the Atlantic — I thought it was headed to the Gulf. No wonder you’re under water. Let’s hear it for Mama Robin. My hero, too. Hang tight. Do you have a canoe?
Claudia says
I wish we did!
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Grace says
Mama Robin is an inspiration!
Your picture is dramatic, kind of spooky!
And, rather than boring you bring to life
the fullness in your daily life, ♡♡♡

Thank you, dear Grace!
