I rather like this idea of asking a question of all of you, as I did last week when I asked whether you were a bed maker or a non-bed maker. It’s so interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts on the subject.
This morning the sun shone in the windows in that certain way that shows every speck of dirt, every dog hair, every clump of crumbs on the kitchen floor, every streak in the window glass. Since I have been ‘attending’ to my dollhouse and my blog and my job search, the house has suffered. Oh, I ran the swiffer every couple of days and I vacuumed, but that, my friends, was it.
Worse than all that, the bathroom was more than overdue for a cleaning. For those of you who are newer readers of this blog, I have mentioned before how much I dislike cleaning the bathroom.
For the record: I detest it. It’s a thankless job, involving scrubbing, hair in the drain, long hair (mine) everywhere, spots on the mirror, hard water stains, toilets, and general unpleasantness. For a while there, my husband was cleaning the bathroom. It was his job, a job he volunteered for because I do all the rest of the cleaning and he was sick of hearing me say how much I hated cleaning the bathroom. That lasted a short while, until I had to start reminding him that too much time had elapsed between cleanings. And that sort of thing always escalates to nagging. Then resentment. So I took over again.
Today, I could no longer ignore it. The bathroom is now clean. And that will last for about 3 hours. Or until Don comes home from work tonight and washes his face, somehow managing to splash water everywhere. My sister says her husband does the same thing. What is it with these guys?
The photo above is of my now clean bathroom. (I just discovered that it’s not easy to get a good photo of a bathroom!) So here’s my question: Do you like cleaning the bathroom or do you dislike cleaning the bathroom?
Do tell. And by the way, if you like doing it and you live nearby, come on over any old time.
Also – a quick reminder that Thursday is Reality Shot Thursday. Please join in. As I said last week, I’m happy to keep it going if there is enough interest….but numbers have been dropping each week. I’m starting to think it might have run its course? If you’ve thought of joining in this is the week to do it, as I ponder the future of this little meme.

Ick!!! My least favorite chore!

I can’t imagine how anyone can like cleaning ANYTHING, that’s not to say it’s not wonderful to see a bathroom (or anywhere else in the house for that matter) sparkling, but the process is the pits. If I were you and the sunshine is telling the world a few bits here and there in your house are in need of attention I strongly advise closing the curtains!! It’s much easier and quicker than cleaning, and working on (I refuse to say ‘playing with’!!) your dollhouse is way more ufn :)
PS If you find anyone out there who loves to clean and they’re up for international house calls, I have a whole apartment down here that needs the attention! And while they’re having fun with that I can go have fun with MY dollhouse! – which I DON’T mind cleaning ;)

I hate cleaning the bathroom.. .but it’s anecessary evil.

I don’t know that I hate it, but it’s a chore. I do, however, love a clean bathroom. It makes me happy, and I love the way that Swiffer Wet Ones smell. So that helps. I clean the shower every time I use it, and that seems to really help. I wipe it down. I have white tile so it is a challenge, but I try my best to keep it very clean.

Claudia,
I hate to clean the bathroom!!! But I do it because I love a clean bathroom. I cannot do it all so I have some help once in a while to get the wall mirrors….
I just plain love a clean house!

Claudia, I am bathroom cleaner hater! I put it off too long and it’s one of those rooms that is impossible to keep clean with a family. Twyla

Add me to the list of bathroom cleaner haters! Also, I have a “splasher” at home too! He can manage to splash water all over the kitchen too just by washing a piece of fruit!!
Stacey@A Sort Of Fairytale says
Oh, I DETEST it too! It is my least favorite job. I hate the hair everywhere, toilet paper lint dust on everthing (what is with that?!), the toothpaste smudges on the mirror from my husband (huh?), cleaning the toilet base and behind it, washing the floor…UGH! I do love a sparkling bathroom with fresh and fluffy bath rugs and towels though!
Cass @ That Old House says
I would not mind cleaning the bathroom at all if I were the only one using it. But husbands? If it were just water splashed — no big deal. But it’s toothpaste and — well, worse things. I don’t understand how you walk away from a personal mess and leave it for someone else to cleanup!
At least he squeegees the bathtub walls after a shower!
But just cleaning the bathroom? I really don’t mind that. But I do mind the Hubby Splats.

Cleaning in general stinks, and the bathroom is the worst! I do it but I definately don’t enjoy it. Of course both my mother and sister are clean freaks and I never do it to thier standards so maybe I rebel against it a bit from that :)

I love having a clean house – I don’t like housework.
Bathrooms aren’t as bad as cleaning the stove or washing the windows for me.

Forgot to say that my Reality Shot for this week is already up!

You’re kidding right? I have a dishwasher, but hand wash the dishes. So many people hate laundry, but it basically does itself. I never think a thing about it. Bathrooms…I have someone who needs the work clean my two bathrooms and deep clean the kitchen regularly. I do everything else. I kept house for a family of nine for thirty years. I’ve earned it! Ha!

Hi Claudia!
I saw your comment over at zuzu’s and thought ‘oh I have got to get to Claudia’s to see how the little house is coming’. So then I saw this post on bathroom cleaning and just had to put in my two cents. If I could, I would hire it done!!! But since I can’t, I do it. You got me thinking though…now, just maybe I could talk Dale into taking that task over now that he is retired. Doubt it, but it’s worth a try.
Your little house is looking lovely my friend. And I loved the post you wrote about Brenda!
BTW: I feel the same way about the e-mail thing.
hugs from here…

Do not like cleaning the bathroom. Seems to be my ‘job’ anyway. Sink and counter is easy. So are mirrors. After that – I do it but not with any pleasure.
Reality shots are ready to make in to a post. I was thinking, how about Reality Shots First Thursday of the Month (or last or …) if you decide to cut back. I love Reality Shots. Keeps things real. Really.

Ooooo, I don’t especially like to clean, but I do love everything clean. :)
Thanks for your comment over at my little blog. I guess from your comment (and June’s above) I wasn’t very clear about the emails. I do send emails to answer questions, but the thing that gets me is when someone writes an email every single time I leave a comment at their blog – they have time to write their blog and to email, but never visit my blog.
Anyway – it’s snowing outside so I’m indoors visiting blogs and playing over at Pinterest.
Have a great one, Claudia!
Hugs,
Zuzu

I don’t like cleaning the bathroom because as you mention, it only stays pristine clean for a short time. And yes, men do splash water everywhere … maybe it’s because they don’t do the cleaning so a spotted mirror or vanity top doesn’t bother them. As much as I don’t like cleaning it, I do like seeing it sparkling clean. So I just get to it and get it done.

Least favorite room … but love when it is clean!

Hate it! But my husband usually ends up cleaning it. He is neater then I am at home! But at work I clean 12 bathrooms (18 toilets) so I am very HAPPY that he does the work here.

OH, we are so alike. I still don’t get how they get that stuff half way up the mirror and then can walk away. Thank goodness we each have our own. His own bathroom would be even better….

WE ALL LIKE A CLEAN BATHROOM, BUT THAT IS ONE JOB I DO NOT LIKE…
THEY SHOULD HAVE A COMPANY THAT COMES AROUND JUST ONCE A WEEK AND SPECIALIZES IN BATHROOMS….JUST A THOUGHT :) RIZZI

I like asking questions, too, so I am happy to answer your question. That is how I started my “What’s My Question Wednesday” a few years ago.
I used to not mind cleaning the bathrooms, but I do now – and our house has four. Too much work. Fortunately I am blessed to have someone come in and clean every few weeks. She is wonderful, and I consider her a great blessing. The older I get the less I feel like working at home every day when I get home from work.

No comment ! I cannot truly write what I exactly feel when it comes to cleaning. We have two bathrooms and they are all mine! to clean ! no helpy hands here but a lot of splashes and stains etc etc.
I want a magic wand just for this. Rosanna
The Boston Lady says
HATE IT. Mainly for reason you just described above. It is clean one moment and then Mr. T arrives or is the case with the “other” bathroom, my daughter. Suddenly the mirrors are a mess and the sink looks like S***. We are a two bathroom home. Our “master bath” is the size of a freezer so there is only so much that can be done with that. The “other” bath is now our guest bath, I suppose, but when the kids are home…. PLUS Mr. T dares to enter there! It’s hard being perfect like me :) Wish my bathrooms were. Ann

I LOVE a clean bathroom…but DETEST cleaning it. It seems to take the longest to do, it’s gross, and my hubby also splashes everywhere. I mean everywhere!
Diane Cayton-Hakey says
It IS a thankless job. The one job in our home I put off as long as possible… I know, that’s gross, but who likes doing it? No one that I’ve ever known.

Hi Claudia,
I don’t like cleaning anything, but I do like ironing – go figure . . . sometimes I don’t cook, because I would have to clean up . . . of course I live alone, and I am fairly picky about cleanliness (not clutter – re: reality shots 1-5).
I also do NOT make my bed. I have a feather bed, fleece sheets and blankets and a down comforter, with piles of puffy pillows, and when the bed is made I feel like the gates to Paradise are closed.
I also eat my meals in bed, my computer is on my night table, and as a matter of fact, am blogging in bed at this moment. Love your reality shot of the Blue Bin – hope hubby takes care of that soon! Love, Linda
