Early Riser & Decorating the Pad

April 19, 2010 at 10:21 am by Claudia

I was able to snap this photo of the sunrise because I was awake at 5:00 am – again. It always takes me a few days to adjust to the time change. Beautiful sunrise, isn’t it? The weather forecast calls for rain the next few days…that doesn’t seem fair, does it? I just left the rainy weather back home.

Last year, I bought a slipcover from IKEA on the hopes it would fit this chair:

Have you ever seen anything more hideous? (I’ll spare you the large size photo of this – it made me cringe.) The slipcover was packed, shipped back out to San Diego and, upon arriving, I put it back on the chair as fast as I could.

Ah….much better.

The sofa in the apartment has the sort of foam cushions that are incredibly cheap and offer no support to my poor old back at all. Last year, I bought a board and put it under the cushions which seemed to help. The board is missing. I will be on a search mission later today, combing through things in the storage area here, hoping that it is still around. Because of the back problems, I bought this inexpensive wicker chair from IKEA last year and left it in the apartment when I returned home. It is still here – though it looks like a dog chewed one of the arms. The cushion I left with it is missing. What is with the actors who stay here??? Can’t they leave anything alone? All the sharp knives I bought last year are also missing and I had to buy some more yesterday at…you guessed it, IKEA. But I digress. Here is the wicker chair with a new cushion and a vintage pillowcase draped over the back. Oh, and a vase I bought yesterday for $4.00 at IKEA.

I feel better already.

On the work front, there is already chaos. The new director of the Shakespeare Rep is stranded in England because of the problems with volcanic ash. His shows are the first up this week in rehearsal. All the actors (except one) are here, ready to start tomorrow. No director.

As for the actors, last Friday an actor playing 2 major roles – major roles – canceled. Just decided not to come. Of course, if he is ill I would totally understand. But otherwise….how unprofessional. Quite a bit of intrigue and I haven’t officially started work!

Today I plan to drive out to the beach and visit my favorite shops. I can’t wait to see Lori at Vignettes and take lots of eye-candy photos for you.

Have a great day.

That’s the most georgus sunrise, thank you for sharing such beauty.
Love what you did with the chairs, quite an improvement with the one.
Hope your director can somehow make it back home and that the actor changes his mind and decides to show up. Life can be filled with so much sometime, but at least you have the shops to look forward to visiting.
Good wishes for it all to fall into place.. :)

I think I’ll try a slipcover from Ikea for my living room sofa. Never been to an Ikea store as we don’t have them here and I truly meant to get to the one at my granddaughter’s house but time….well, you know, sugar.

Have fun and yesssss, VERY unprofessional. I doubt he’ll go far with that reputation.

What an incredible sunrise! Love the chair with the slipcover, and the wicker one with the beautiful new vase. Now it looks so pretty and homey. WOW! Sounds like the work related problems could be a real challenge. Will be waiting to hear how it all works out. ♥

omgosh… when I saw that first chair my immediate thought was dumpster diving. The white chair cover does wonders for it, and what IS up with people that take things from that apartment? Good grief.

Lovely sunrise by the way.. :-))

The slipcover makes a world of difference!

Well, it would appear you purchaed some great items as other sought fit to take them with them! Maybe you can find a secret hiding place somewhere in the apartment so you can squirrel them away for next year!

Eggads, such drama already! I guess the leading actor doesn’t need a job, or perhaps he received an offer he couldn’t refuse!

I look forward to seeing your photos from your shopping trips!!

It is a hideous chair! Looks ready for the trash bin. But you made it look better already. You manage to have fun now. Between all the drama going on!

Beautiful sunrise! We’re getting an Ikea in our area soon. I can’t wait to check it out.

It’s amazing how small touches can transform a place. Love the wicker chair.

Oh Claudia, that sunrise is beautiful. I would love to wake up to that every morning! I hope your sleep schedule get straightened out quickly. What a lot of drama before the acting really begins! Aren’t slipcovers wonderful! They hide a multitude of ugliness! I wish people would be more respectful of others and their property. Enjoy the shops and look forward to more photos!

Don’t you just hate that? Here you are so busy trying to make your new home as comfortable as possible last year. And then when you came back, almost everything is missing. Weird and terrible.

But I see you are starting again and in no time, I hope this will feel as home as you like.

(The incident in Europe was awful. Even the flights here destined to go there were canceled to and lots of people were stranded.)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
