Three Vintage by Crystal bunnies out on display for Easter.
Sunny today and warmer temperatures this week. I’ll take it. I’m going to go out and check on the progress of the lilac buds. Update tomorrow.
I also see some tiny green buds on the Shag Hickory and an Ash. The daffodils up in the shade are developing buds, the daffs in the big garden bed have emerged from the ground and the daffs that sprung up from gravel last year – right by the porch – are getting bigger every day. Little things, but boy, do we need to see them about now. Winter hung on longer than usual and we are really ready for GREEN. Speaking of green, the lawn is getting greener by the day – all that rain, no doubt.
After yesterday’s post about Disc Drive, I began to wonder where that cassette tape that Don made for me was. The only car that played cassettes was the CR-V and it’s long gone. Did Don mistakenly throw it out when he cleared out the car? Did I put it somewhere in the house? Have I lost it forever?
I checked out my car. Nothing. If it was in my storage closet in the office it was going to be difficult to find without taking everything out, including the kitchen air conditioner which is also stashed there. (Storage – the eternal problem around here.) Then I had an idea to check the top drawer of the sideboard – a mess of receipts, used checkbooks, batteries, etc. After a lot of digging, I found it!
Don , you are forgiven for writing Disk instead of Disc. And he recorded it in Calgary, not Toronto like I thought. He often worked for a theater company that had stages in both cities. 1999! We had only been together for 5 years. I’m going to listen to it this afternoon. Let’s hope it still plays.
I’ll update you on that tomorrow.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

Don’t you love it when you find something you’ve been missing? Enjoy your spring. We still have ice on the channel and snow in the woods. We got a couple of inches of snow a few days ago. I am enjoying sunny walks on the beach every few days so it’s just a matter of time.

Sooner rather than later, I hope!
Stay safe, Eileen.

I agree, Claudia, the signs of Spring are so uplifting! I have daffodils blooming, lilacs showing small green buds, and forsythias peeking yellow petals! Makes me smile! Now if it just gets a bit warmer, I will get out to weed! Can’t wait!
Claudia says
The forsythia up in the woods is in bloom! Just saw it today.
Stay safe, Ellen.

Hi Claudia,
It seems I’m good at telling you things you already know, but I thought you might be interested in the app called Radio Garden. You can access stations around the world and it can be pretty interesting and entertaining.
When I taught I would always listen to a station in Windsor called Whyt–I think, as I drive home from work I can’t remember the moderator’s name, but he played 40’s and 50’s songs primarily, along with some big band numbers. There was another program on Canadian radio that I listened to at Christmas time because beautiful old British carols were played and the moderator dedicated them to listeners who had written in with requests. One elderly lady asked for a certain carol because it reminded her of sitting in church with her husband and two sons. She said her husband and older son had passed and the younger son lived in Australia , so she would like to hear the carol so she could close her eyes and pretend they were all together again. Well, I had to pull off the road and have a good cry after that!
Claudia says
I’ve heard of the app, but don’t have it.
I loved the CBC, though it isn’t what it used to be. But then again, what is?
Stay safe, Suzanne!

I do love when you find something that you thought you lost and discover it again. Those memories are precious….hope the recording is still viable.
Radio Garden is a great resource as Suzanne mentioned. We listen to a smooth jazz station out of London via New Jersey. Don’t know how they do that, but it’s great. You have access to stations all over the world.
Haven’t seen any buds here….guess it’s been too cold. Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
The recording was viable, but the tape is in bad condition and it kept getting jammed. I heard parts of it, at least.
I listen to a jazz station from Paris on my laptop – our hotel always had it on in the breakfast room and we fell in love with it.
Stay safe, Donna!

It’s still slow in coming here, but I see encouraging signs!
Stay safe, Jill.

Great that you found the cassette!! I was curious about Disc Drive after reading your post about it and googled it; couldn’t find any recordings on-line (like you had said) but on the Way Back Machine there were lists of what was on the programming each day (can’t remember the years); not as good as listening to it but it’s interesting to see what was aired. I live in Central NY and my daffodils are just starting to bloom up here; it’s beautiful today! Taking the dog for a walk before returning to work.
Claudia says
I loved his musical choices and I really loved his voice.
Stay safe, Carrie.

Love those bunnies,very unique!
Have to confess, after I read your header,I was trying to figure out where or what the bunnies were taped to…DUH!
glad you found the tape.
HAPPY SPRING! finally
Claudia says
Ha!
Yes, finally! Spring!
Stay safe, Pat.
kathy in iowa says
glad you found the tape, claudia … and can listen to it!
your don is very sweet to have made the tape for you (i know you know that already)!
the bunnies are also sweet. crystal does very good work.
beautiful weather here lately after some rain so tree/bush buds are coming out… and the box elder bugs are, too. as bugs go, they are kind of pretty – but when they clump together on a sunny wall, they creep me out.
i am going to try again to get my taxes filed online tonight. they are done, i’ve submitted them several times but the irs said i need to answer a question. i already did that, but they keep rejecting my tax filings. i’ve tried it probably a dozen times so am very frustrated and a little nervous! ugh.
my oldest niece’s husband now has covid. thankfully also a mild case, but still hard not to worry, especially since they have two young children.
on a different note, they’ve hired someone to fill my position (though my boss has asked a few times if i would change my mind and stay … nope!). eighteen work days left, at most, and my social security application was approved to start in june for may. ready!
hope you all have a nice night. :)
stay safe.
kathy
Claudia says
Glad Social Security came through, Kathy!
Maybe you should just submit your tax filing through the mail?
Stay safe.
Vicki says
kathy, so glad you have only a couple of weeks of work remaining; you can get thru it … !!! … and, best of all, your social security benefit is ready to go; all is falling into place for you, really happy for your new future!
Vicki says
btw, we only just got our taxes filed online last night, so we were down to the wire as well; sorry you got hit with questions on it; I seem to remember other years when this happened to us, but it all turned out okay in the end — yes, I am remembering this, so we wound up paying on the federal/IRS TWICE with them so that we could END it, but they recognized it immediately and we had the second payment reimbursed in very short order, like within the week (computers, you gotta luv ’em as much as hate ’em!)
Vicki says
I often wonder if my old packed-away music cassettes can still play; we do have ONE old car that has a factory-installed cassette deck. I’m not so worried about CDs but I do get concerned about old reel-to-reel tapes and also VHS because my hubs says if you go to play them now, they’re likely to disintegrate as they wind/rewind, although there are companies/people who can take them and transfer them now, since a lot of us boomers are in the same boat. I have a whole boxful of cassettes which we recorded at the time as blanks, like of our family holiday celebrations with everybody talking and singing in the background; I haven’t been able to listen to them for 30 years although I swear to unearth them and do it; just be brave for the memories, since I actually LIKE the memories even though it can be overwhelmingly sad to hear the voices and see the faces (on VHS tape) again, from how I remembered the people and the times. I’m sure I’ll get a shock at also looking at my own younger self, remembering what was …
Glad you found your disc!
And luv the bunnies photo today; very Easter-y. Really OOAK.
Is so dreary and gray and cloudy here today although not cold and instead very humid in the 70s-temps such that my asthma is kicked up with tight breathing; however, it beats the 105 degrees we had mere days ago.
Glad green is coming your way!
Speaking of breathing, my senior-aged cousin in another state who’s trying to get thru his Covid infection has much-improved breathing from last Thursday, for which I am SO thankful. Curiously, everything he tries to eat, for five days now, tastes like metal, so he’s getting really tired of THAT and of course he is losing weight because eating is unappealing. He’s trying to keep moving around, letting the dog out/etc, because he’s been warned to not be too sedentary, although it’s a fine line because he’s so fatigued from the infection and coughing; fever has finally diminished, though. I’ve been nervous as a cat for him. He’s quite immune-deficient. Has lots of risk factors for making the virus worse. He may have dodged a bullet, or so I pray. He just lost his nephew to Covid last June. Diff is that by now, we’ve all been vaccinated more than once, and so much more is known of how to treat the infections.
I’m in a bit of a quandary because my husband doesn’t want to get the fourth shot until THIS June, so it will stretch to Covid/flu shots in October (that four-month window of waning efficacy). I think it’s too risky for me to wait til June; everybody I seem to know has already gotten the fourth shot of vaccine; I know you and Don got yours last week, too. So, I’m gnawing on it and will decide this week for myself. I’m not around people but my husband sure is, so I get antsy about it all, although our county’s numbers remain low — the weekly stats come out tonight; we’ll see where we sit on new cases/hospitalizations. I’m just not into this kind of nail-biting!
My sister-in-law can’t shake Covid, since last January when she was stricken. At first it was just the overwhelming brain fog; now, more stuff, the body continuing to I guess be under some kind of very-lingering assault. She left yesterday for a big vacation, not feeling well, quite sick on Saturday. Man, nothing worse than getting on a multi-hours plane trip across the vast ocean and being sick; been there, done that. Or also the somewhat daunting reality that she could end up sicker in a foreign location/hospital and have to leave the tour. So many red flags of why they shouldn’t be traveling, but I just have to keep my mouth shut for peace in the family!
Claudia says
Glad your cousin is doing better, Vicki.
I’m glad we got our boosters. Covid infections are climbing again in the Northeast and this area is usually the first affected. It’s still here and, thankfully, we just ordered a batch of new disposable masks. I wouldn’t be traveling right now, either.
As for the condition of the tape, there’s an update in today’s post.
Stay safe!
Linda MacKean says
I’m happy you found that tape. I like a treasure hunt that ends well.
Claudia says
Thanks, Linda.
Stay safe.

I love your “Crystals.” I missed her sale this year and it’s probably a good thing. I don’t need another but I do love her work and Easter, especially, is such fun.
My mini-daffs and mini-irises have burst into full, shockingly glorious color. I’m so glad to see them! And there are buds on their bigger versions so hopefully soon. Not too soon. I don’t trust this weather! I wasn’t born yesterday!
Have a glorious week!
Claudia says
I haven’t purchased anything from her for a few years now. I have enough!
I don’t trust the weather yet either, and in fact, it’s going to get colder next week.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
