Egg Cups, Part 2

March 19, 2023 at 9:18 am by Claudia

Not much sleep last night. We had an unexpected (at least, to me) very loud, strong wind all night long. I couldn’t get to sleep. Each time I was about to fall asleep, a big gust would wake me up. Then I woke up too early. Sigh. Anyway, Don just made me an extra strong cup of coffee because I have work to do today. Oh, and breakfast burritos!

By the way, we finished Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio  last night. It’s really extraordinary. We couldn’t get over how wonderful it was. It’s on Netflix and if you hang in there after watching it you can watch a 30 minute film about the making of the movie. That will blow your mind! The amount of detailed, precise work is beyond my comprehension!

More randomly chosen egg cups.

1.  Two rabbits carrying an egg. There are variations out there of this cup design. In fact, I have a smaller cup, also carried by rabbits.  This is from Japan.

2.  A beautifully painted cup with a chicken and a duck on either side of the cup. Also made in Japan. Beautifully painted and in great condition.

3.  One of my favorites and, if I remember correctly, one I bid on in the middle of the night because I was determined to win that particular auction. The rabbit as egg cup painter. He’s holding an easel and a brush, wearing a smock, and has decided to go with a grinning face on his subject. I cannot say enough how much I love this one.

4.  A bunny next to his egg cup house. A beautiful luster glaze on the house. I have several cups where the egg cup is a cottage-like home. This is one of the prettiest.

I got all of these early in my collecting days. They’re much, much harder to find these days. Thank goodness I started collecting when I did – I’m pretty sure it was 2002, not long after we moved east. Most of the great figural egg cups I have were found in those days. As you know, I prefer vintage, but I do have a few new cups because I like the design – maybe 5? The rest are vintage.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

More darling egg cups…and I can certainly understand getting up in the middle of the night to bid on the artist bunny…so cute and creative! They just don’t make things like they used to… even egg cups! I enjoy your egg cup pictures!

Hope you get better sleep tonight. We didn’t have wind, but pouring rain about 2 am…and more expected this week. We’re saying so long to the drought…for a while anyway.

Good luck with your work today!

Wow, a 20-year collection at least; marvelous egg cups.

Sorry about the wind. I’ve got rain here in Southern Calif. Again. A brief respite tomorrow morning, but then hard rain again on Tues and Weds. I don’t even know how to talk about it anymore, so won’t! (I’ll say one thing: I’m getting darned tired of driving in it; is just not a time to have to be out in a car on the road! We try not to, but life happens. Appointments which can’t be postponed; errands; look at all the folks who have to get to school and jobs.)

Take a nap this afternoon, Claudia. Even 20 minutes with your feet up, shoes off. Rest. It’s Sunday; you’re allowed!

My experience in California told me that not a lot of drivers there know how to drive in the rain. It used to drive me crazy!

But I suspect, with all the rain you’ve been getting, that they’re learning how.

      Stay safe, Vicki.

Hi Claudia, fun to see your egg cups. I have the same one you do – the artist bunny. I bought mine years ago now because my husband is an artist. I, too, still have my childhood egg cup. It’s a sweet white rabbit and the cup part is sky blue.

Hope you had a productive day researching dialects. You’ll probably be able to sleep tonight. Hugs, Elaine

It’s such a lovely egg cup, isn’t it? I never see it listed nowadays.

      Stay safe, Elaine!

I have decided I am a bunny junkie. I guess I knew that before but it holds true with the egg cups. Adore them!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
