I woke up this morning in an edgy mood. So I’m going to mind my words! Heaven knows where I would go if I let it all hang out.
Do you remember my story about the CBC radio show, Disc Drive? I spoke about listening to it in the afternoons when I was visiting everyone back home in Detroit/Dearborn. The host, Jurgen Gothe, was extraordinary and compiled playlists covering so many different kinds of music. Five days a week from 3 – 6 pm, his soothing voice and sense of humor carried us through the end of a work day. And I learned so much.
Anyway, I obsessively tried to track down two special CDs he recorded: Disc Drive and Disc Drive II. After a few months, I found Disc Drive II through a site called Discogs, where people list CDs and LPs that are out of circulation for sale. They are rated as to their condition. My experience with them was very positive. That disc (which had never been opened) arrived quickly and it was fabulous. Also, if you search for something and find it’s out of stock, you can sign up to get an email when it comes back in stock. So, I did that for the first disc, and promptly forgot about it.
The other day, I got an email from them and the first disc was in stock! Both of these CDs have been out of production for years.) I immediately bought it before anyone else could snatch it away.
It’s simply wonderful. A great selection of music, including Gershwin. I hear Jurgen’s voice and my shoulders immediately drop. So now, I have them both. They will be treasured, that’s for sure.
Today’s egg cups.
1. A lovely little cup where the cup becomes a sort of cart, hauled by a member of the chicken family. It’s California pottery (still has the sticker, which is a big deal in collecting) and was made in Rio Hondo, California. I love the cream and pink combination. It looks very different from any of my other cups.
2. A pig sitting at a table preparing to dine on an egg. This little treasure is one of my favorites. I found it in my early collecting days. It was made for Tiffany and it’s Staffordshire pottery.
3. A lustreware egg cup with a cute little bear carrying the cup. Plus, a pretty flower. It was made in Japan and was a gift from my friends Lynne and Sean, who live in Toronto.
More work to do today.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

what a happy surprise for you to finally receive word about and be able to get the other cd … happy for you to have access to a favored thing.
i agree with your experience of listening to that cd … the power of music and voices to bring up memories and relaxation is a wonderful, helpful thing. :)
to that point, my sleep schedule has been messed up so i’ve started listening to “white noise” just before i hope to fall asleep … one of those rainstorm videos found online. same one night after night and i think it’s helping. :)
on the theme of hearing something, i hope and pray that don hears good news soon from his audition.
and i am happy for you to have your current job.
hope you, don and everyone else have a very good day. stay safe.

We have white noise machines going every night. It really helps us sleep, Kathy.

I found the egg cup with the little pig interesting because of it being Staffordshire pottery. My great great grandfather is from area of Staffordshire, England. And a little bit of research that I have done Staffordshire is known for its pottery. So I am making the assumption that is where your egg cup was made? i just found that exciting.
Claudia says
I’m sure it was made there. I have a lot of Staffordshire china, as well.
Stay safe, Trina.

Good morning! These cds sound lovely. How cool you found them. My husband is always on the hunt for something old and hard to find. I will pass this site on to him. Thank you for that info.
Yesterday was definitely spring in our yard as two robins were duking it out on the lawn. One finally got hold of the other and was dragging it around by the neck. We were mesmerized and watching with our mouths hanging open in horror. It was brutal! Scott finally opened the door and yelled “hey” like it was two kids fighting. They flew off to the birdbath for a drink and continued the standoff up front. We usually have just one robin fighting his reflection in the window. Not sure we can cope with all the drama this year is already bringing. Yikes!
I don’t remember seeing the pig eggcup before. It’s absolutely adorable!! He does look eager for his meal!
Have a lovely day.
Claudia says
Whoa! Was that all about staking claim? Territorial fights?
Stay safe, Verna.

Yes! I’m staying out of their way! May the best robin win.

What a great recommendation. Now and then there is a CD that I love that I don’t have. Or that is so old and so played that this year it started skipping. (Yes, it does. Not the player.) My first Broadway Christmas CD was that way — and my favorite song from “A Mummer’s Play” sung by Laurie Beechman is on that. And where does it skip? Yup. (And if a few others places as well.) I found one on Amazon, new — only 2 left, they said. It came from a separate seller, I think and now I’m wondering if it might be the same. Fave holiday CD ever and I have it again!
Claudia says
We have some CDs that skip. And our older Bose system doesn’t help either!
Stay safe, Jeanie.

We used to listen to Disc Drive back in the day. How serendipitous you found that second CD. If you do a search, you can find Jurgen Gothe on Youtube. Cute trio of little egg cups. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Oh, I know. I’ve done plenty of searches on Jurgen!
Thank you!
Stay safe, Elaine.
