Egg Cups, Rain, and The Pitt

April 7, 2025 at 8:51 am by Claudia

In the midst of yet another dreary rainy morning, I think some charming egg cups are just what the doctor ordered.

On the left, an excited bunny. From Japan,

Next, one of my favorites, a beautiful mom and her babies with a lustreware finish on the egg cup. Japan.

Next, two chicks playing on a seesaw/teeter-totter in front of an egg cup home. A recurring theme in some vintage egg cups from Japan is egg cups with windows. I have several of them.

Finally, a petite egg cup being held up by a bunny in an orange jacket and blue pants. That’s a flower on the other side. Japan.

We are in for three days of much colder weather with rain off and on and nighttime temps below freezing. Oh, and high winds tomorrow. (Yuck.) I think that once we get to Thursday, the temps will become warmer and there won’t be any more freezes. Then I can sow some seeds.

In the meantime, it’s wet, cold and dreary.

Laural is about the same. She doesn’t really have the energy to talk, so we are communicating via text. She’s been getting some oxygen and is basically exhausted. I haven’t checked in with her this morning. I don’t want to disturb her if she’s sleeping, plus hospitals are always very busy in the morning. I’ll text her around 10 am. Thank you for your prayers. Keep them coming, please. As Joe said to me when he heard about Laural, “This damn adulting is hard.”

You said it.

If you’re at all interested, we are watching the final episode this week of the first season of “The Pitt” which airs on HBO Max. (We get Max via Amazon Prime.) It stars Noah Wyle, who you might remember from “ER.” The Pitt takes place in an emergency room in a hospital in Pittsburgh. The first season has 15 episodes, each episode being one hour in a continuous 15 hour day. Don and I think it’s one of the best series we’ve ever seen. The level of detail, the writing, the acting, the direction – everything is excellent. Noah Wyle is brilliant. One thing I love is the use of relatively unknown actors, which keeps it real. There is no “Oh, so-and-so is guest starring!” kind of thing, That would take you out of the immediacy of the plot. By the way, the actors may be unknown, but they are routinely excellent. I can’t recommend it enough.

Okay. More coffee needed.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

I love the soft colors of those Springy egg cups. It’s so nice to see all the details. Well, Saturday I joined the local Hands Off protest. There were about 100 people at City Hall. It felt good to do something. I’ve been seeing Noah Wylie promoting the show…it does look really good. Enjoy.

    prayers continue!

glad that laural is getting needed medical care and rest. also, gratitude for having many ways to communicate with family and friends. :)

good luck with the weather, especially the wind. may it be a sign that the garden isn’t ready for your help just yet, and permission for you to rest and do fun indoor things right now.

always fun to see the egg cups; thank you!

lots of errands and tasks to accomplish here today. hopefully each of them will be quick! i think childhood/early 20s me wouldn’t understand why current me is dependent on having a daily (written) to-do list and feels relief, even a bit of happiness for getting stuff done (i was always busy, had more energy and patience than i do now); either way, i will be glad to get these things done … they’re taking up a lot of space in my living room and brain, weighing on my peace. best i get going.

hope you, don and everyone else have a good, easy day. stay safe.

you found your thing early and were on it. :) growing up, i was a combination of “trial and error” (sometimes over and over and over again about many things in life, not just organizational stuff … sigh), sometimes-but-not-always-overwhelmed-overachiever and late bloomer, but thankfully ultimately found what works best for me. haha.

a wall calendar and a daily to-do list work best for me.

So sorry to hear about your friend and I hope she begins to feel better soon. Woke up to snow whirling around in the high wind this morning. Really tired of this weather but your pretty egg cups put me in a spring mood again. I’d head to the basement to look for a few bunnies to place around the house but I can’t. There’s a kitty asleep in my lap. :)

    take care,
    Kay

We were supposed to have a ‘wintry mix’ early this morning, but no snow or sleet appeared.

      Get those bunnies out, Kay.

      Stay safe.

Yes Adulting is so hard. I’ve found out the reason for my shortness of breath and it will require surgery probably in June. So not fun, but if I can get my life back I will be happy.
I always enjoy seeing your egg cup collection.
I’ve also been watching The Pitt. It is so very good. Best series I’ve watched in a long time. I love Noah Wylie and I agree the cast is excellent! I read it is has been renewed for another season.
Today my grandson is 14 and next week my granddaughter will be 10. Time is flying by. Stay safe.

We feel the same way about The Pitt. Yes, it has been renewed. It’s superb!

Cannot believe the grandkids are that old, Linda!

      Stay safe.

I do remember Noah Wyle from ER. He was one of my favourites. He was interviewed by Stephen Colbert on The Late Show. They showed a clip from the series. Cute eggcups. Hope Laurel is regaining some strength. Hugs, Elaine

That grouping of egg cups are just delightful. They just make me smile.

No rain here…just off and on snow flurries. They are a great reminder that it’s spring in Wisconsin. It’s the season of everything…from mild to wild. Yesterday one of my neighbors was mowing his lawn. I thought it was a bit early, but, each to their own.

Joe is right…this adulting thing is hard. I have quite a few relatives and friends that I am concerned about. And I don’t think it’s going to get any easier. Still keeping Laural in my thoughts.

    Enjoy your day! ;)

Same thing here in NY. There was snow just north of us this morning.

We are at the age where we will be worrying more and more people we care about. It’s very hard to bear.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

d ear Claudia/Don — love the pixs of egg cups — they do help lift spirits — thank you for letting us enjoy them — never gets old for me. I am so sorry re your friend Laural — this brought back old memories for me — Myma had congestive heart failure with severe edema w/many, many hospital visits but not a good ending — Am I looking in a mirror — sure feels like it. Hoping your friend can have relief soon. You know what REALLY makes me mad??? Today, treatments are the same or nearly the same as those 50 years ago — what are those smart scientists/doctors doing??? can’t somebody make improvements somehow?? sorry for shouting but this should not be acceptable for any patient. pls stay safe, healthy

That first bunny is making me smile big. Loving all of these though.

This time of life is rugged. It’s so hard to see friends having life threatening physical challenges and even when they aren’t life threatening, we’re just not working quite the way we used to, any of us. Continued prayers for Laurel’s recovery.

I love those egg cups. So cute! We just started watching The Pitt too. We love it! Noah Wylie’s acting is incredible! Plus he is almost on all the time during the show. A lot of on screen time. The last series we have watched that we liked was Ozark with Jason Bateman and Network with Jeff Daniels. So happy we found another one we like. Another show I love is Tracker with Justin Hartley on Sunday nights. He is very handsome! Take care!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
