Egg Cups & Recalibration Woes

March 29, 2025 at 9:27 am by Claudia

I looked at the calendar and realized that Easter is not that far off! So it’s time for some egg cups, don’t you think?

Life has been stressful lately, so I’m recycling photos.

These, of course, are my prized Snow White and the 7 dwarfs egg cups. It took me 17 years to complete the set. I have a book on egg cups that I purchased early on in my collecting. This set was pictured and the author made it clear that the cups were very hard to find. My friend, Nels, who passed away earlier this year, had a massive collection of egg cups and had been collecting for years. In the days before eBay, finding any of them was much more difficult. He paid a LOT of money for some of them – several hundred dollars – and could only shake his head when the prices eventually went down due to increased accessibility on eBay. But even with the alerts I had programmed on eBay, it still took me years and years to find them all. I think I paid between $30 – $75 for them, Snow White being the most expensive. That’s pricey for an egg cup, but much less pricey than when they were going for hundreds of dollars.

Doc was my first buy, then Dopey, and then Bashful. Much time went by before I found more. Somewhere along the way, I found Grumpy. Then, one day, I was on the FB egg collecting group and a woman from Orillia, Ontario posted that she was selling her set. (Since both my mom and grandmother were born in Orillia, I felt it was meant to be.) Long story short, I persuaded her to sell me three of them – Sneezy, Happy, and Snow White.

Last to arrive, after a long, long search, was Sleepy.

I suppose the set is worth at least $350 to $400 – but that fluctuates. I’ve heard from some other collectors that some of them came in cereal boxes (in Canada.) I don’t know if that’s true, but they were certainly inexpensive in the beginning.

My set is in great condition with no paint problems or chips.

The car: yesterday Don drove well over a hundred miles and nothing changed re the calibration. So he called the Honda dealership and a tech told him to get on the interstate, set the cruise control at 65 mph, and drive for about 20-30 minutes. Exit, and turn the car off and let it cool down. Then, turn around and do the same thing until you exit the interstate. Then, drive to our local guys who are doing the inspection and, hopefully, it will have re-calibrated.

Exhausting.

I mean, really, this is ridiculous, And we’ve put more unnecessary mileage on the car as well as spent money for gas. But Don, bless him, is currently making our second cup of coffee so that he can put his in a thermos and start this little journey. Fingers crossed there’s nothing that forces him to stop the cruise control…

It’s supposed to hit the seventies today. Whoo hoo!

I did do some clean up work outside yesterday. Boy, do I need to get in shape!

Update: It worked!

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

may don’s drive help with the recalibration. may his coffee be a nice reminder of your sweet morning routine together. and may the gardening and warmer weather more than help balance the tougher things that life can bring.

thanks for the history of your “snow white and the seven dwarves” egg cups. glad you have a complete set and it has the sweet orillia connection. :)

Loved seeing your Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It’s a lovely little collection. Safe travels to Don as he tries to get the car to recalibrate. It seems strange that in this day of super technologies this is what he has to do. Lovely you are going to get some spring weather. They are calling for some freezing rain here. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs, Elaine

It must have felt good to have the Snow White set complete. And to find some of the egg cups from your mother’s and grandmother’s birthplace was very special. Hope the recalibration goes better today. Enjoy your weekend.

It’s a pain, isn’t it? But think of it as a fun road trip, maybe with a little stop for a picnic or walk or fun. Who knows? Could be a good day and as long as it’s a necessity, may as well enjoy it.

Loving the egg cups. What a fun, timely collection!

It’s always fun to see your egg cups. I had forgotten how long it had taken you to purchase all of the Snow White and 7 Dwarfs.

I had written a comment yesterday…evidently I forgot to press publish lol. (Guess all the turmoil in our lives is affecting me.). Glad you got to do some yard work….it was gorgeous here yesterday as we climbed to 78. And, I goofed off instead of doing yard work…silly me.

Your car hassles are quite something. And the waste of gas, time, and useless mileage is ridiculous. It just doesn’t seem very logical to me. Hope Don is able to get the car to recalibrate.

    Enjoy your day! ;)

I goofed off as well – I just felt tired, so I declined any possible work outside.

Don’s drive worked, by the way!

Don, what a tremendous person he is, a truly good guy. I hope the car corrects itself and you can breath easy.

Love those pretty egg cups. I do feel sorry for you when you mention doing “yard work”. I think it sounds pleasanter and not like actual work when we over here (in Wales) call it “gardening” but in the end we are both working, usually pretty hard! Don is a champion husband and so glad car troubles are done. Clocks go forward for us tonight so as a reward to myself I did a jigsaw…all day. Not nearly as hard as yours which I always admire. Be Kind to Yourself. X

Love your egg cups! Well…,we are up in Sedona and as we were going out to dinner, our car would not start!! Agh!! We are out in the boonies at a place called Briar Patch Inn and wondered if Triple A would even come out here. Luckily they did and started it but said we needed a new battery. Had to drive into town and find a place where we could buy one. Luckily we did, so as Bill was waiting to get it installed, there was a Goodwill next door so of course I had to go in there to see if I could find any treasures. Found a couple, yay!!Always the thrifter. Now we are sitting here with a fire going and have to go home tomorrow. Hope the car starts. I do miss Gracie. Happy your car is better. It’s always something.

Your egg cups are part of my Easter tradition! Along with crazy Spring weather.

Your comment section is behaving itself and the car problem is solved too…sigh of relief.

Now if I could just loose twenty pounds in a week, build muscles quicker than two months, find myself ten years younger but four years into the future…

    Keep strong!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
