Enjoying the Porch While We Still Can

November 13, 2011 at 2:00 pm by Claudia

Lap it up, my doggies. Enjoy the warmth of the sun before the winter snows come. That pretty stone floor will be covered in snow and your favorite place won’t seem quite as welcoming.

Watch the cars and motorcycles go by. Bark at the occasional jogger. Make sure the deer and chipmunks and squirrels know this is your territory.

I love your ever-vigilant, house-guarding attitude. But today, take a deep breath and enjoy.

My dear friend Brenda from Cozy Little House and I are starting a series. We’re calling it Defending the Small House. Thanks to Casey for giving us that title – she used those very words in a comment on my Living Comfortably in a Small Space post. Brenda and her two little dogs are living in just over 1000 square feet and Don and I (who are both tall) are living with our two big dogs in 1200 square feet. Each week, we’ll give our take on a particular small space topic. And we’ll ask for ideas from you, as well. Hope you’ll join us.

Yes, we had better enjoy this weather while we can. You and Brenda have a brilliant idea, something I can sink my teeth into. Looking forward to your Defending the Small House posts and ideas.

We had a warm day here in the upper Midwest, almost 70 degrees which is very unusual. It felt great to have the windows open wide and the curtains blowing in the breeze!

I am looking forward to your feature. I am one of the lucky ones to live in a small old house. This looks so interesting!! Hope to get some great ideas!!

    XO,

    Jane

Hi Claudia, I’m sorry I’ve missed the Reality Photos and stuff the last couple of weeks, but was without power for 6 days and without computer for a few more and it has been just awful! I love the photo of your sweet doggies basking in the sun and will be interested in your new small house blog. Love, Linda

I am looking forward to the series. We live in 1400 square ft. But we do have a basement so that helps. This is about the average size of the home older then about 15-20 years around here. Before the huge homes started popping up. I wouldn’t want to live in those places. I like the coziness. Before I was married 9 years ago I lived in a 706 square foot home, so this one seemed large to me. Even though there are only 2 of us (plus 2 dogs) we have managed to fill up the space here. I love your and Brenda’s series sound so interesting to me. You both know how to do with less, something I need to learn. Funny though as most of my clutter is caused by my craft supplies. You can find miniatures/dollhouse supplies in almost every room. Other then that we are pretty basic and don’t collect a lot.

Yes, enjoy that sun and comfortable temperatures while we have it! I have a small house too…just over 1300. You do have to be creative in being organized so it can all work together. Looking forward to your series!~Hugs, Patti

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
