In my quest to escape from the insanity of this country, I asked Sophie if she would be willing to be my model for a photo session. A chance to get outside? She was in.
She’s a bit of a free spirit and refused to wear shoes.
I think she wants something from me. Money? To accompany her somewhere? Candy?
These girls are a wonderful source of support and fun and escape, and boy, do I need it right now.
My new weed whacker/trimmer arrived the other day. I put it together yesterday and went outside to do some work before it got too hot, but the battery wasn’t fully charged. Drat! So this morning, I’ll head out there do some much needed clean up.
It’s very hot here this weekend, so any work has to be done early in the day.
My sister, who is an occupational therapist and works with small children, knows the system in a way most of us don’t. She wrote an extraordinary post about the Supreme Court/Roe v Wade decision and what being pro-life should really mean. (She’s pro-choice, as well.) I urge you to read it. You can find it here. It’s an eye-opener.
Messaged back and forth with a Russian friend from the Blythe community this morning. She was shocked at the decision made by SCOTUS. I asked her if abortion was legal in Russia. The answer? Yes. She said that there are many things that are wrong in Russia, many things she disagrees with. But in the case of abortion, Russian women have more rights than we do.
Okay. I have to get going.
Stay safe.
Happy Sunday.
Hello,
I read your sisters post yesterday. It is beautiful and her truth should be published somewhere so it can be read by a huge audience.
Take Care,
Kaye
Yes, she is so eloquent and her circumstances make her almost uniquely placed to write such a piece. Her piece brought tears to my eyes and I found myself wishing she would send it to all the judges.
It should go viral, but I’m not sure how to do that.
Stay safe, Denise.
I’ve been thinking about that. I’m not sure how to do that, but I agree, more people should read it.
Stay safe, Kaye.
glad you have good things to enjoy all on their own (books, blythes, gardening, etc.) and especially when a break is needed!
your words aboutsophie (“i think she wants something from me. money? to accompany her somewhere? candy?”) made me laugh out loud. thank you for that. :)
also for the link to your sister’s post.
a lot of stuff going on in our country brings to my mind the lyrics to a song, “powerful people” by gino vannelli …
“look at the powerful people
stealing the sun from the day.
wish i could do something about it
when all i can do is to pray.
it’s a lonely afternoon
with nowhere to go but my room
and sunday when there’s time,
i think of these things on my mind
and i don’t know
where will i go …”.
on a different note …
went through my books this morning and have only a small stack to donate. this was a first, quick look so there will be more. guess i wasn’t feeling ruthless or full at the moment.
had an overcast and occasionally rainy 78 degree day here yesterday … loved it! want more! going for a walk soon and will be grateful to do that no matter the weather.
hope you are all having a nice, easy day. stay safe in every way.
kathy
You know I love some Gino Vanelli, Kathy! Perfect lyrics.
Glad you had a rainy day!
Stay safe.
Thank you for directing us to your sister’s blog and post. This has given me so much to think about.
You’re most welcome, Petie.
Stay safe.
Yes to the escape from the insanity in this country. We had an escape yesterday, and another one scheduled for today…no political talk whatsoever. I need a break. Thanks for the link from Meredith…I bookmarked it.
Enjoy your day. ;)
Don and I should do that. Drive somewhere and no political talk allowed.
Stay safe, Donnamae.
Sophie is adorable! I love that both you and Don do photo shoots — just with different subjects.
I plan to link Mere’s post too. I read it yesterday and was blown away. It’s brilliant.
It really is brilliant.
Thanks, Jeanie.
Stay safe.
Thanks ever so much for sharing the link to Meredith’s post… powerful, true, and eloquent.
Stay safe & well.
You’re most welcome, Amy.
Stay safe.
I’ve read your sister’s post and she speaks the truth. Abortions aren’t going to stop, they’ll be driven into the back streets again. I’m not the first to say it but the attitude towards women reminds me of The Handmaid’s Tale.
I see some Americans are trying to argue My Body, My Choice was frowned up when it applied to not wearing a mask during Covid. The difference is if you sneeze on me, I might catch the virus and be seriously ill but it sure as anything it won’t make me pregnant!
Absolutely. The Handmaid’s Tale is coming true.
Thanks so much, Dee Dee.
Stay safe.
Sophie’s saying “let’s get out of here”!
She’s tired of sitting inside the house!
Stay safe, Deborah.
Claudia, I read your sister’s post…. very powerful! Thank you for sharing that.
You’re very welcome, Barrie.
Stay safe.
I read Meredith’s post and she is spot on. I was a nurse casemanager at a Federally Qualified Health Center so some of our patients shared similarities with Meredith’s cases. I have seen some very sad situations also. I can’t put it into words the way your sister did…her post was very powerful.
It takes a very special person to do the work she does.
Take care
It does. And to do what you did, Marilyn.
Stay safe!
Thanks for the link to your sister’s blog…very powerful writing.
My pleasure, Jen.
Stay safe.
