Fabric Eggs

March 29, 2024 at 8:26 am by Claudia

It’s Good Friday and I have to get my car inspected this morning. The deadline is on Sunday, so I’m cutting it close. Don’s car has been repaired and, after the inspection, I’ll drive him to the mechanic’s to pick it up. We won’t talk about the amount of the check he’ll be writing. Sigh.

It’s been gray for the past several days – very hard to get good photos. Will we ever see the sun?

The fabric eggs must be highlighted at this time of year right? I love them in this Fiesta compote. Don had to move the apples for an apple pie elsewhere, as I had reserved the compote for this display.

Another view:

I made these in 2009, I believe. That’s the year I worked in San Diego for six months, substituting for the woman who took over my job when I left USD/Old Globe. She was on sabbatical for the semester. And then I also coached the Shakespeare Summer Repertory. I borrowed my friend Ingrid’s Singer Featherweight and worked on a quilt, as well as these eggs. I got all the fabric at my favorite quilt shop, the one where I had my first quilting lessons.

Ella is intrigued by the eggs.

So, I’m off to make a second cup of coffee and get ready for the car inspection.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Ella’s expression is almost hard to define; it’s what I love about your Blythes!

Thanks for showing us the fabric eggs. I enjoy seeing the variety of cloth designs. The companionable colors! Imagine that we all still get to enjoy your bowl of eggs some fifteen years later. You did such a nice job with them, craft-y girl-you.

Is all such great fun. Gosh do I love Easter.

Best of luck with your Friday errands.

We have had a stressful week with my husband losing his ring of keys and also his internet phone; keys eventually recovered (not in time to not have to change the house locks, unfortunately), phone not recovered. My husband is forlorn to lose a lot of photos on it. Oh well. Add into it the cost of a new computer printer because ours reached its life expectancy, plus taxes due too soon for my liking and, well, banker-of-the-family-me has to do some creative, new budget-pinching for sure although nothing as bad as a significant car repair in the Sparks-Hill family (phones ain’t cheap though!!).

What I really want to do is sleep from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon and just let our Southern Calif rain shut out the noise of the world. (My husband’s work hours are killing me; he’s going in earlier today so as to get off work earlier in order to beat the holiday weekend getaway traffic AND the rainfall.

But, Claudia, I think we’re all going to have a nice weekend; let’s look forward to the relief!

(My husband just cracked an egg and got a double yoke, so he looks at it as a good sign, starting out Friday with a good breakfast and better luck!)

See, I’m too sleepy; punctuation errors, bad sentence structure … has become my new thing, so I simply MUST get better at proofreading; and yoke, ha (no!); it’s YOLK; ugh, my brain so early in the morning. That’s what four hours of sleep does to a person who prefers seven.

I’m sorry about the loss of the phone, Vicki! That is always an expensive hassle. I hope this weekend brings you both some peace.

      Stay safe.

sorry you and your husband have had a tough week, vicki! hopefully the phone and all its photos will turn up and that at least getting the locks changed helps you rest easy about the lost keys. here’s to a beautiful Easter, easier weekend and other better days ahead.

Claudia, the Fiesta bowl filled with your fabric eggs definitely says Spring and Easter. I have a Fiesta bowl, more like a mixing bowl, in that same color that belonged to my grandmother…I love it! I’m ready for some steady sun. We get a little peek, and then the clouds roll in and the rain pours. Should be nice tomorrow so everyone can have a dry Easter egg hunt!

I have two of the mixing bowls. I sold my Fiesta years ago, but I kept the bowls and a few other pieces.

We have a sunny day today. Enjoy, Barrie.

      Stay safe.

Love wee Ella surveying your beautiful Fiesta bowl of eggs. The prints look very vintage. You must have had fun making them. I’m off to bake my Easter shortbreads topped with jelly beans. I’m also going to make a bunny-shaped carrot cake. Is Don going to make his famous apple pie for Easter? Hugs, Elaine

He already made a pie a couple of days ago, Elaine. We don’t really make anything special for Easter.

      Stay safe.

Always love to see those colorful eggs. Hope you get some sunshine soon. We’ve had 2 sunny days here so it has to be coming your way. I’d forgotten that you were a quilter. My late mom quilted and made me several wall hangings that I love. I have a small throw-sized quilt she almost finished. All that’s left is the adding the border binding and then the actual quilting design. Have been looking for someone who could finish it. I’m determined to get serious about this now and to visit the nearest quilt shop this year.

Wishing you some sunbeams this Easter Weekend.

If you call a quilt shop, they can probably refer you to someone who could finish that quilt, Kay.

though sometimes necessary, writing big checks is no fun! glad that and the car repair are done.

and that you’ll get your car inspected by the sunday deadline (whew!).

love little ella (because she reminds me so much of my maternal grandmother and is also named ella) and the fabrics on your sewn eggs, especially the one near the top with green-tape-measure and daisy fabrics. they are all very sweet. good job, claudia!

Easter is a beautiful holiday, of course, but what came before it was hard, painful and is tough even today for me to think about and take in (though i am extremely grateful!!!). it is for my family, too, as tomorrow marks eleven years since my beloved mother passed on to Heaven. i try to always focus on the beautiful, including what’s ahead (Heaven and happy reunions), but the hard gets me every year (so i thank God for giving us a very busy week). i miss her so much.

if i don’t get to it tomorrow, let me today wish you, don and everyone else a beautiful Easter/weekend. i hope we all get to the reason for this extra-special time, especially with those we love. may God bless you all.

    xo,
    kathy

maybe i need to clarify …? regarding Easter (weekend), with a sad and yet grateful heart, i am talking about two things … what Jesus did on the cross for us all, and my mother’s passing.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
