Feathered Friends Party

August 11, 2009 at 8:17 pm by Claudia

I’m joining the Feathered Friends Party today. Gina at The Shabby Chic Cottage is the lovely hostess – please stop by her blog to see who’s participating! I took a little trip around the cottage to snap pictures of all things bird-related. Let’s see….how about some real bird nests?

This little nest is one I blogged about – we found it on the backside of our Christmas wreath (I was away – my husband left it up a tad too long.) The egg is from Michael’s.
This tiny little nest was found in one of the hanging plants on our porch – it was abandoned at that point – so I brought it inside and put it under my cloche. I love nests – they are little miracles.

Next to the cloche is my little Bakelite bird napkin ring.

Birds in paintings: the top one is by Christie Repasy, the middle is a Stellar Jay painted on tile that we bought in Flagstaff, the bottom is in a large flower painting hanging in the den.
My vintage birdcage – I love this sweet cage made by Hendryx. Inside is a bird made by my friend Joy…

Finally, I collect McCoy Pottery – I’m totally crazy about it! Several pieces have birds in them, or like the photo above, are birds.

Thanks so much for visiting! I am so looking forward to visiting everyone taking part in the party!

It sure is amazing to see those nests. Lucky you to have found them and in perfect shape too! They are so pretty to look at Claudia.

I like how your birdcage still holds a bird inside but a faux one! And glittery too! Now one can enjoy having bids inside the home without that much clean up LOL

    Hello, Claudia,
You have a wonderful collection of birds and nests. I am a retired teacher, but I would always take a nest to school when I was teaching. We would examine the nest to see all the things the little birds used to build their nest. It was always so interesting to find bits of yarn, ribbon, paper, etc. I especially enjoyed that vintage bird cage with little cute bird inside. Hope your week continues to be a good one. Vicki

    Hi Claudia…

Ohhh…you have so many pretties! I loved seeing your “real” bird’s nests…they really are a wonder, aren’t they? They work so hard to build a home for their little families…twig by twig…layer by layer! I guess that’s why our homes are likened by the term nest!

I really enjoyed seeing some of your McCoy Pottery collection…you have some beautiful pieces! I didn’t realize that there were so many pieces with birds…I’ll have to keep my eyes out for them now! My favorite is the aqua tulip planters or vases with the little yellow bird…soooo sweet! I just love that piece! I really enjoyed seeing some of your art with birds too…lovely!

Thank you so much for sharing some of your feathered friends with us…I really enjoyed myself!
    Warmest wishes,
    Chari

They are indeed little miracles of nature. I love this pottery you have. I wasn’t familiar with it. Does it feature just birds, or just has lots of birds? I’m going to go over to eBay to check this out! Love your vignettes of birds!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.
