Feeling Better, Reading, Puzzles, and Hearts

February 14, 2025 at 8:48 am by Claudia

This is the lazy way of taking a photo: grab the phone and, without getting out of your chair, turn to the right and click.

I like it.

I’m feeling better today. There’s still some residual congestion, but then again, I’m always congested. It was a sinus thing and dear husband took care of me. All is well now.

Happy Valentine’s Day. I’m the only one in this house who remembered it this morning. But we don’t make a big deal of it anyway. And to be fair, we were barely awake when I said it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

(With this newer laptop, I can now add little emojis, but I’m not a huge fan, so I rarely do it.)

Well, more snow is coming tomorrow, along with ice and sleet. That’s the way it is lately. Snow, then ice. Heavens, I am sick of winter. Please fast forward to spring. Don and I have started these little monologues in which we imagine sitting on the porch looking at the green leaves on the trees and all the flowers in bloom. With the bleakness of the landscape and our country, we desperately need these little visualizations. Oh, I cannot wait to be outside clearing out the garden beds, planting seeds, and fixing up the porch.

I know, I know. It will be quite a while until that happens.

I’ve started another puzzle. This one is beautiful. It’s a Japanese print of a Geisha. I’ve managed to find all the edge pieces, so that part of it is done. I will post it when I’ve completed it.

I’m reading  I Hear the Sirens in the Street  by Adrian McKinty, the second book in his ‘Troubles” series. I’m also reading a book I’ve had on the shelf for several years about the famous Chelsea Hotel in NYC, a place that has always fascinated me. It’s titled  The Dream Palace. But I admit that it’s been hard to concentrate on reading lately. Still, I’m plugging away.

More tomorrow.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

sorry you’ve been sick, but glad you are feeling mostly better. hope you have an easy day ahead so you can keep healing. a puzzle and book should help. being with your sweetheart will, too. :)

six-plus inches of snow fell here on wednesday and it is beautiful. it’s the drier fluffy kind of snow so not good to be driving when the wind was blowing it around, but shoveling the deck yesterday was definitely easier. more snow is forecast for this afternoon and especially tomorrow. i don’t wish anyone harm or hardship, but hope we get more snow now (and enough rain the rest of the year) … we’re down more than a foot in precipitation and the farmers and creatures will need it. also, better it snows now than in april.

i have a very, very long to-do list, but now am going to do some cross-stitching (a gift for my oldest niece, hopefully for Christmas. this Christmas).

    be safe and well, everyone.

We love the drier kind of snow, but that’s not what we’ve been getting lately. Yes, farmers (and water tables for people with wells) need it!

      Enjoy your cross stitching, Kathy.

      Stay safe.

Claudia, I’m glad you’re feeling better, especially since hearing the the flu is on the rise around the country. I really like your photo… there’s a metaphor there, with the windows open on both sides, the light on in between…and the colors are so soothing. I really like the vase. I like the idea of your visualizations…I think that’s a great thing to do now and for quite a while! Enjoy your reading and puzzle. Happy Valentine’s Day!

So glad to hear you’re feeling better, Claudia. We had a severe winter storm roll through Wednesday night leaving almost a foot of snow. More coming on Saturday. You gotta love winter, not! Stay warm and cozy. Enjoy doing your new jigsaw puzzle. Happy Valentine’sDay to you and Don. Spread the love. ❤️. Hugs, Elaine

I love the photo, Claudia. Interior house corners are my favorite. Yours looks so cozy. I recently moved some furniture and created a nook in the only corner of my house with windows on both walls. A former TV stand now houses board games after I took the glass doors off. It’s the right height to use as a side table on which is my favorite table lamp. The base is a slender tree and there’s one branch with a wee bird on it. Nearby is my favorite floor lamp, by a different maker, which also has a tree-like base but its branch has one single leaf. I love reading and knitting there. I’m usually joined by one or two of my cats.

I’m participating in a local independent bookstore’s annual bingo game. The readers have one year to read 12 books of their choice but within the categories listed on the bingo card. So far I’ve finished three books, including a book that takes place in a country you haven’t been to but want to visit. I read Benjamin Stevenson’s Everyone This Christmas Has a Secret, which takes place in Australia. I’m looking for books that fulfill other requirements, like a book by a Latinx author and a book that features a nonhuman character. I love that this “game” is making me pick books off the shelf that I would normally bypass. Even if they turn out not fulfilling a category, the book title goes into the notebook I keep for future reads.

Fell better soon. Use that hot ginger “trick” I long ago described to you to help ease your congestion. Heat a hand of fresh ginger on top of your burner. Turn as it chars. When it is fully charred, wrap in a clean cloth (wrap around at least twice). Pound the ginger until the juices start coming out onto the cloth. CAREFULLY place the whole package along your forehead, pressing as you can tolerate the heat. And it will be very hot at first. Move along your forehead, beside your eyes, and on your cheek bones. You want the heat to get to the sinuses. My mom used to use this remedy on us kids and I used it for my children.

      Thanks for the tip, Wendy!

Love the description of your new corner and your book bingo. I have a friend who lives in Singapore (she’s from Ireland) and she reads a lot of books by Australian authors.

I’m glad to hear you are feeling better. I think those monologues you and Don are having, are a great idea. That would boost my spirits immensely.

We got 5 inches of snow Wednesday, and more on tap for later today into Saturday. Light and fluffy, then the frigid cold resumes…ugh. Spring cannot come soon enough for me.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen that bowl before with the magnifying glass in it. There’s a story behind almost everything you have lol. Is there a story behind the bowl?

    Enjoy the puzzle! ;)

No, no story. Just something I found in a antique shop!

I cannot wait for spring, Donna!

I’m glad things are looking up and that you weren’t down for too long. I love that dish in the foreground of your photo. Can you tell me a little more about it?

It was made in Japan. I either got it on ebay or in an antique shop. Looks like a pickle dish. It’s very cool.

      Thanks, Jeanie.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
