Stella in black and white.
Something I did on a whim yesterday. I was making our oatmeal and the sun was shining on the stove and it looked pretty.
It was sunny all day yesterday and my mood completely changed. A couple of projects that I had been contemplating were completed with ease. I had lots of energy. So did Don. The sun, especially when it’s bouncing off the white color of snow, makes me happy and fills the house with light.
Of course, today is another story as we have a major snow event headed our way. It won’t impact us until sometime after 7 pm, so there’s time to run a few last minute errands this morning. Don tested the snowblower yesterday and it’s running just fine. We have the heat turned down because we’re low on heating oil and have to make what’s there last until Monday. It can’t simply be a snow storm, it has to be a snow storm with us wearing several layers of clothing and fingerless gloves inside the house. Right?
This too shall pass.
I’ve been daydreaming about spring. Green appearing everywhere. Cleaning out the garden beds. Ah….
Don made an apple pie yesterday but we have yet to sample it. That will happen this afternoon, after lunch.
There’s not much else to report, my friends. We’re in a waiting mode. Waiting for the storm. Waiting for heating oil. (Have you noticed that this shortage of oil happens to us at least once every winter? Yikes.)
Stay safe, especially all of you who live in the path of this storm.
Happy Saturday.
Your stove looks very cool, especially in black and white! Stella is a work of art. So many years ago we had things that had such beautiful lines and emphasis… appliances, cars, buildings… getting rarer and rarer. Enjoy the apple pie….and stay warm.
Yes. All cars look alike nowadays.
Stay safe, Barrie.
Stay safe and warm under the layers, Claudia. I’m glad you get a respite from gray skies and have had sun. Enjoy your apple pie.
My daughter made a traditional Lunar New Year dish last night. We’ll bring some to my Mom and eat it today. It was originally made by Buddhist monks (so my Dad told me) and is vegan, with tofu sheets, rice or bean threads, tofu puffs, mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms. Different families use different ingredients . My daughter uses my Dad’s recipe. She’s the only one of my Dad’s grandchildren to carry on the cooking traditions. I’m happy to be able to taste the foods that remind me of Dad.
Sounds delicious, Wendy! And what a lovely memory.
Stay safe.
Stella’s looking great….working hard. Oatmeal was always great for warming up one’s insides. And she wears the sunshine falling on her very well. I always feel much happier when the sun is shining, too.
It must be a real challenge to manage a fuel supply as you do. I’ve never had to do that. Hope your efforts pay off.
Stay warm…and enjoy your apple pie! ;)
It’s a bit of a pain, for sure. Happily, we were shocked and suprised to see the fuel truck show up this afternoon – 2 days before we had hoped to see them.
Stay safe, Donnamae.
Yay!! ;)
xo
dear Claudia/Don — sounds like you all are getting prepared, i.e. apple pie yeah !! sure hope the storm hype is incorrect (at least a little) so you won’t have as much to dig out/shovel. looking pretty bleak next week for us, hoping elec is not interrupted — never know w/all lines above ground in lots of trees, etc. wxman was right “harsh” Feb — this guy is very seldom wrong but I sure hope next week is a big wrong. stay safe, warm, healthy — lots of flu cases all over Ky to go with “harsh” weather is not a good combination IMO — don’t let that pie get stale, Haha!!
It isn’t incorrect – in fact, the amount of possible snow is increasing. We also have more snow coming during the week.
Stay safe, Linda.
I think of you often Claudia , even if I am not a reliable commentator
I turned 60 last month
As someone whose parents died young ( my mother 48 and my father 58) I had not expected to see 60. I certainly did not expect to see it without Tony by my side . I know you also know the enormous pain of loss , particularly at a young age
I find myself avoiding the internet –
I read the UK newspaper The Guardian -which I recommend as a source of reputable news and also one that does not ignore the atrocities in Gaza. I have been so disappointed in the Labour govt – that I voted for . And there are no words to describe your President –
other than to say every American I have ever met has been decent , moral and emotionally intelligent- not how I would describe the current WH occupant
The life you portray on line seems to be full of hope – of a lasting and loving relationship , of working together , of enjoying a slower pace and treasuring time together
I hope you get your oil replenished – and that the snow is white and pretty but doesn’t stop your activities
Siobhan x
Happy Belated Birthday, Siobhan.
I also read The Guardian, as does Don. I still believe Trump will be removed from office in the near future. We know he stole the election, but he is also guilty of so many more illegal deeds, so what might bring him down could be any one of a number of crimes. But in the meantime, it’s hellish here. I have to stay away from the headlines.
In a little miracle, the oil was delivered this afternoon. We’re very relieved.
Take care and stay safe.
Stay safe and warm in the snow storm. We’re expecting snow, too. But nothing so far today. Glad your snow blower is at the ready. Enjoy Don’s apple pie. Hugs, Elaine
The snow doesn’t start here until after 7 pm, but then it will fall heavily for several hours. 5-9 inches predicted for our neck of the woods.
Stay safe, Elaine.
Stella looks double vintage in black and white. :)
She does!
Stay safe, Jenny.
The b/w of Stella looks really nice. Some subjects lend themselves especially well to that — this is one.
Did you get your snow? Sounds grim. You and Don be very careful out there, back and body-wise. And then enjoy that pie!
On to a new week. I have some doc stuff, zoom calls with friends, but nothing major. Works for me!
Yes, but much less than predicted. More on today’s post.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
