A sign that my back is much better:
I resumed work on the puzzle and finished it this morning. It’s a New Yorker cover from 1943, “Fishing Bridge.” Finally being able to work on it again was very satisfying.
We’re having a stormy, rainy day and I am loving it. It’s rare when we get up in the morning – and we are early risers – with a storm rolling in. It was so lovely to sit here drinking coffee , listening to thunder off in the distance, which quickly grew louder. I sure don’t take rain for granted these days.
But that takes mowing off the table for today.
The other day when I was adding the neck joints to Sophie and Maeve, I decided to replace one pair of Sophie’s eye chips. There was a little incident with hot glue and Sophie’s eyelashes. I had no choice but to remove them. Sophie had very thick eyelashes that, along with the former downward tilt of her head, made her look sulky all of the time. That was okay and I would never have opted to change her eyelashes if not for the ‘incident.’ Though I do like lighter, more realistic lashes as opposed to the heavy and thick lashes some customizers add.
I briefly considered no eyelashes at all, but yesterday morning, I decided she needed some. I set off for Walgreen’s and picked out some false eyelashes. One pair didn’t work because the base of the eyelashes was too thick to fit in the slot in the eyelid. But the other pair did fit. You Tube, again. I cut the eyelashes to fit the slot, added a thin bead of Elmer’s glue – water soluble – and gently pushed them in the slot with a long straight pin.
If I end up not liking them, I can always change them out in another one of my “Dr. Frankenstein” moves, as Don calls them.
New neck, new eye chips, new eyelashes. My very first girl, Sophie, has experienced a mini-makeover.
I love her freckled face.
All Blythes have four sets of eye colors. I might replace one more set in the future, but for now, I think Sophie needs time to get over the trauma of neck surgery and hot glue on her eyelashes. The girl needs some rest.
These eye chips were made by Puppelina Eye Chips, a creator who lives in Spain. I have no idea how she does it, but they’re beautiful.
Don has an injury to his right hand that the doctor said is not a joint/arthritis problem but a muscle injury. So he is now wearing a brace that supports his thumb because the muscle injury is on the pad right next to the thumb. It’s a bit a pain in the tush and he took it off too often yesterday so he’s in pain. I have lovingly ordered him to keep it on today.
I’m watching you, Don!
Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.

glad your back is getting better. hopefully don’s hand will get better soon, too.
the puzzle and sophie’s eyelashes look great. more rain sounds great, too … enjoy!
working on big and small projects around here. some are more fun (and so get done faster) than others, but it’s all good.
enjoying cooler weather here with a chance of rain ahead and getting to spend time with members of my family again today. also avoiding bobcats big and small. :)
happy thursday. stay safe!

It’s raining very heavily at the moment. It all replenished our rivers and our well, so I’m happy.
Stay safe, Kathy.

Love your puzzles…my days are filled with tutoring the boys before and or after school…working with my student on the East Coast…working with youngest grand in Indy…tonight get to watch boys receive new belts in T K D…this weekend parents going for an infrequent night away…I will stay at the house…they live within walking distance…so great that since 2017 I have lived near daughter and now son…daughter in Indy. They left for college eons ago and always lived too far away…we gave them roots to grow and wings to fly…next week daughter comes…she flies down every few weeks…Allegiant air is cheap. I have read a million books for Netgalley this year…still doing needle work and puzzles…I cannot do the ones you do though…you are an artist. I am still walking my steps…have to keep moving…have a good day…read and enjoy the rain…it rains almost daily here on the coast…
Claudia says
I’m familiar with the rain in Florida. Whenever I’m visiting my sister, I’ve come to expect a bit of rain every day.
Thank you, Brenda!
Stay safe.
Nora Mills says
Very brave to have accomplished two procedures on Sophie. Now she has even more your girl. Rainy and stormy here too, and once more I’ve turned on the heat a little bit. My friends Who have fireplaces are exulting this year. As long as you and Don take turns with physical challenges, you’ll be OK. Good luck and may you both feel better at the same time soon!
Claudia says
Wouldn’t that be nice? I’m ready for feeling spry and fit!
Stay safe, Nora.
Ellen D. says
Poor Don! That’s his guitar strumming hand, right? Hope it heals soon.
Glad your back is better.
Claudia says
Yes it is. But if he wears the protective thingy, he can strum a certain way and he’s fine.
Stay safe, Ellen.

I’m sorry about Don’s hand. When our hands hurt it really cramps our style.
I’m glad you gave Sophie lashes. They’re very pretty — and you have added another useful skill to your portfolio — cosmetic surgeon. Neurosurgeon, fashion stylist, vocal coach, actor, miniature interior designer… woman of all trades!
Claudia says
Quilter, knitter, crocheter…
We all have a list of useful skills, I bet!
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Linda says
Oh I hope Don is on the mend
No more mowing for him
Claudia says
I’ll take over, Linda.
Stay safe.

Claudia I like the new Sophie. I think her face looks fresher somehow. Very nice job and it took patience and a steady hand (both of which I do not have). The rain is ponding on the front yard and I have a mini water feature. I don’t have to leave the house for any reason today . Kind of nice. Hope Don has a speedy recovery. Enjoy the day and live to mow another day!
Claudia says
I think her former eyelashes were too heavy for her face. I like this better, too.
It’s raining like crazy here, too.
Stay home and stay safe, Maria.
Linda MacKean says
Its always good when the back feels better! Sophie looks adorable with her mini makeover! Enjoy the rainy day and tell Don we are all watching him so rest that hand! Hugs!
Claudia says
She does look cute, doesn’t she?
I’ll pass that on to Don. I already caught him not wearing it this morning!
Stay safe, my friend.
Elaine in Toronto says
Isn’t a rainy day lovely? They keep promising rain here but it never materializes. One can but hope.
You are a woman of many talents. Sophie is so cute. You might know this already but I thought I’d mention it – Susan Branch has a lovely puzzle for sale in her shop. I bought one last fall intending to work on it during the winter. Sadly, I ended up in hospital for six weeks coming home the beginning of March and I wasn’t able to Start it.
Hope Don’s hand gets better very soon. Take gentle care. Hugs, Elaine
Deb in Phoenix says
I love Susan Branch and the items in her shop. I did see the puzzle.
kathy in iowa says
hej, elaine.
six weeks?!? i am so sorry you had to go through that. prayers will be said that you are fully recuperated and stay safe and well.
hope you get some rain and time to work on that puzzle!
xo,
kathy
Elaine in Toronto says
Thank you, Kathy. I was so weak from spending six weeks in bed that I had 16 weeks of physio therapy, three times a week. My husband was my hero. I’m about 90 % recovered. I certainly have a new appreciation for people who are struggling to recover from a serious illness. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Thanks, Elaine. Maybe you can do that puzzle this winter? It would be the perfect project!
Stay safe.
Elaine in Toronto says
Yes, I plan to do Susan’s puzzle this winter. And play with my new Blythe doll. A cute pair of denim overalls arrived for her yesterday but Jesse is still in transit. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
I can’t wait until your girl arrives! I’m so excited for you.
Stay safe, Elaine.
ceci says
Aren’t you brave and handy to operate on some of the girls! I wish new neck joints were so available for humans, mine is rather stiff and immobile. Actually new eyelashes would be nice too. On the other hand, like the Velveteen Rabbit I am alive, so mustn’t complain.
Wish we would get some rain!
ceci
Claudia says
Oh, so do I! And I could use some longer eyelashes.
Hoping you get some rain, Ceci.
Stay safe.
Deb in Phoenix says
We have had non-stop rain here. Kind of tricky when we were having all new windows put in! My house is a disaster! Plus Gracie does not like to go out in the rain. Now I will be trying to put everything back together….maybe try some new furniture arrangements. One more item off of our “to do” list. Everybody stay safe and dry!
Claudia says
You, too! It’s monsoon season out your way, right?
Stay safe, Deb.
kathy in iowa says
hej, deb …
hope the window work is all done and that you are pleased with the results.
also that you’ve had just enough rain and can get gracie outside in time.
happy furniture arranging, too. maybe put on your favorite keith urban songs. :)
and stay safe, too.
xo,
kathy
