First snow. It started falling in big, fat, wet flakes yesterday evening. Thankfully, our local weather guys got it right. We got maybe an inch or two of wet snow that eventually changed over to rain. If it was ever icy, it didn’t last. The driveway is wet and clear and we are fine. We did enjoy seeing the first flakes, but it’s more fun seeing it fall during the day.
Because of the oncoming snow, we removed the two window a/c units (one of which is very heavy) and got the shovels out. I moved some heavy pots onto the porch from elsewhere on the property. Between the air conditioners and the pots, my back was feeling a little sore by mid-afternoon, so I stopped for the dayΒ and turned on the heating pad. I’m feeling much better today. The only chore left to do in the next week or so is emptying the pots on the porch and moving them into my potting area in the shed. Oh, and moving the glider and chair cushions back to the storage space under the stairs. And bringing my little stone doves inside for the winter. Sometimes I forget to do that until well into December. One more – moving the Adirondack chairs to the shed.
I’m feeling the urge to string up some Christmas lights on our porch sooner rather than later. That may happen this week. Our neighbors have their lights up already and since their house is set well back from the road, it’s nice to see beautiful blue and white lights off in the distance.
Jim wrote me yesterday and invited Don and me to the premiere of Spoiler AlertΒ on November 29th in NYC. I said yes for me and when Don got home, he said yes. I think he’s even more excited about it than I am. Of course, we live in jeans, we’ve gained weight, and we have nothing appropriate to wear. And I hate shopping. Nevertheless…
Oh wait, I did buy that dress for the opening of Margaritaville. Does it still fit? All shall be revealed.
We’re excited about going of course. I’ll get to see Ben (the actor I coached ) again, and Michael Ausiello, the author of Spoiler Alert (the book) who became a good friend during our days on the set. And Jim’s husband, Todd. And we’ll get to see it in a room full of fans and people who have worked on the movie so it will be a lot of fun. Will Sally be there? I hope so. Neither of us have ever been to a movie premiere before. Broadway opening nights, yes. But not this.
Today we’re taking it easy.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.
Ellen D. says
We had snow here too. It was pretty to see in the morning but melted before we had to shovel so a perfect snowfall!
I am glad you and Don get to go to the premiere. Sounds like it will be terrific fun!
Claudia says
Same here. We didn’t have to shovel. It’s almost all gone now.
Stay safe, Ellen.
kathy in iowa says
i am so pleased and excited for you about the movie premiere (and the movie itself)!!! all shall be revealed and great!
lots of chores + cold weather = i hope your back feels better by now. stay safe and warm.
similar weather here. not into it … errands last night and today took and will take more time as i walk super-slow (scared of falling) when it’s messy and slippery out … but it is quite beautiful. every big and little tree branch is outlined in white snow.
hope everyone has a good and easy day. stay safe!
kathy
Claudia says
Snow and ice are worrisome in terms of falling.
Stay safe, Kathy.
Linda Piazza says
How fun! It will be fun for all of us, too, to hear about your experience.
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Linda.
Stay safe!
Linda MacKean says
I’m so excited for you and Don! What fun and to see all the actors and others you worked with will be a joy I know. Rest up that was a lot of work for your back yesterday.
Claudia says
It was. I’m being very careful today – just resting.
Stay safe, Linda.
Elaine in Toronto says
How exciting for you and Don to be invited to the premiere of “Spoiler Alert” and it’s a dress-up occasion., even better. That doesn’t happen very often these days. The girls will need a babysitter. If I was closer I’d volunteer, lol.
We got snow overnight and it does look pretty but I’ve had enough till Christmas. I think you should put the Christmas lights up. November is such a grey month we need to brighten it up a little. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Yes, I’d be happy not to see any more snow for a while.
Stay safe, Elaine!
jeanie says
That first snow always jump starts us into moving things or bringing things in that we thought we might have a little more time to master. It’s been gray and gloomy for days here and I’m longing for a little sun, even if it’s cold.
The premiere sounds fun and exciting. I’d be freaked on what to wear, too, but I know you’ll have something great. And the best part will be seeing all your colleagues from the film, which will be just terrific. Of course we will want a full report. Keep that back in good shape!
Claudia says
Yes, I’m going to be extra careful with the back. I promise.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Donna says
Smart *** hs friend here. If you try on the dress and all is revealed, you’re going to need to shop.
Just kidding. Have fun!!
Shanna says
Hahahaha!
Claudia says
It wouldn’t be pretty, Donna!

carol o'connell says
Oh, that is so exciting! A movie premier sounds so glamourous. Hope you have a terrific time celebrating. We want to hear all the juicy details too!
Claudia says
It’s also terrifying on another level because I’m such an introvert!
Stay safe, Carol.
Chris K in WI says
That is EXACTLY what I was thinking, Claudia!! I would be under a chair shaking!! But you now know a lot of the people and will be comfortable, I am sure. And Don seems a lot like my hubs and is comfortable chatting with most anyone. Can’t wait to hear all about it! Lugging AC units and planters today, and a movie premier in NYC in a couple of weeks!!!!! That is crazy good! Take care.
Claudia says
I will be immediately trying to calculate when I can leave!
Thanks, Chris.
xoxo
Marilyn Schmuker says
It is white here too, and supposed to snow off and on the rest of the week. It’s early and I fear it’s a sign of a long snowy winter.
How exciting about the movie premiere! You must report back with all the details.
Take care
Claudia says
I will, I promise!
Stay safe, Marilyn.
Barrie says
How exciting to go to the movie premiere! I look forward to hearing all about it!
Your snow looks beautiful…cold, but beautiful!
Stay warm, take care of your back!
Claudia says
I took it easy today and I have the heating pad on my back as I write this.
Thanks, Barrie.
Stay safe.
Dee+Dee says
How exciting, so pleased for you. I must say I did think on the day when you mentioned the New York showing, that surely you would be getting an invite but I don’t know how these things work.
Have a fabulous time!
Claudia says
The New York event I mentioned before is a special screening for paying guests. The premiere is an entirely different thing. It’s a big deal!
Stay safe, Dee Dee.
Brenda says
Not sure when heating pads became popular. We didnβt have money but Mother got me one for the Arthritis pain when I was young. Oh my goodness. I love them. Glad you have one also. Film
Premiere sounds fun for you. Have a good good day today.
Claudia says
We always had a heating pad around when I was kid. I used it when I had cramps.
Stay safe, Brenda.
Deb in Phoenix says
All of you talking about the snow makes me a little jealous, but I will take sunny and 60βs. We could drive 2 hours north and get in the snow which is always fun. Sounds fun going to the movie premiere. I too live in jeans and even more leggings because they are so comfortable. I use to love to shop when I was younger, now it is a chore. Well today is my last ketamine treatment. I am happy to say it is working! I canβt remember the last time I felt this good and not depressed. Hope it continues. Iβll share that hot chocolate!
Claudia says
I’m so happy to hear the treatments are working, Deb. Wonderful news!
Stay safe.
kathy in iowa says
that’s wonderful news, deb! i am very happy for you … and cheers-ing a cup of hot chocolate to you!
with hugs and happiness for you and ongoing prayers,
kathy

How very exciting to be able to go to a movie premiere with famous actors and especially a film you had a part in (and will be named in the credits no doubt); you SHOULD be at that premiere, and I bet your black dress will fit just fine and that you and Don will look terrific! Congrats, Claudia; what fun news.
Ah, you with first snow, and us in Southern Calif with our first huge Santa Ana wind event for the season. I’d prefer your gentle snow although I know you also get awful blizzards at times. My neighbor lost a 20-ft tall massive cactus plant in the night. I was so sad to see it down; I doubt it can be salvaged; maybe. (The wind has been blowing SO hard, for hours and hours with no let-up and I’ve had zero sleep in the overnight. Just ‘way too much continual noise out there. Wailing, screaming, howling wind ‘whooshing’ down the chimney and between our close-set houses of the neighborhood where, between the structures, it’s like a canyon for the wind to funnel; and you hear stuff crashing around outside and wonder what you’ll find come daylight. My other neighbor’s shed roof is currently on my back patio. The wind blew the tops off of two of my outdoor cat shelters.) The one tarp we left on one outdoor shed is completely gone; we have no idea where it is, over fences and maybe a house or two away from us. My husband decided NOT to remove the car cover from my vintage car as it’s a tight-fitting custom cover, but even it blew off although thankfully we found it and I just hope it’s not ripped up. I guess we’ll get respite by day’s end although the wind will return on the weekend. Anyway, glad your snow was NOT destructive and, of course, ME as the person who never sees or knows snow thinks it’s so lovely!
I’m glad you have lots of places to squirrel away your seasonal pots and yard furniture. Just watch that back.
Vicki says
I can see with the gray skies and white snow that twinkly, colorful, warm-light of Christmas-holiday string lights would be cheery (I think you should do it, Claudia!); here, with the weather warmed up and these winds, it doesn’t yet seem appropriate for Southern Calif, but my husband says I’m judgmental and should just let people be; do what they want here! Don’t grumble! After all, when it was colder the past few weeks (and we even actually got a little bit of rain), I’d expressed a desire to have some colorful lights twinkling INSIDE the house. But I did have to go out in this hellacious wind this morning (I’m a debris-dodger [there’s so much palm bark/fronds all over the cemetery on the ground that the director out there said she has to order two oversized dumpsters, saying also that the palm fronds are HEAVY to lift and dump; makes me feel for the groundsworkers]!) and I saw FOUR houses with full-blown decorations on their exterior, like a nativity, wreaths, red and green ‘Season’s Greetings’ signs; Santas; light strings swaying in the fierce wind. I guess I’ll always think it’s too early for some of that, yet stores are decorated with the lure of fun Christmas-y stuff to buy, people are doing holiday shopping, wanting their cocoa and peppermint, having switched from pumpkin and maple! It’s in my brain that Dad never put up outside decorations til about Dec 10; same for getting the Christmas tree. (Maybe he was a little late!) But my husband’s Midwest upbringing was much different, and HIS family tradition is to get everything up, at least outdoors, the day after Thanksgiving. If people just want to feel happy, looking forward to the Christmas holiday, why not. I need to adjust my attitude! (Thing is, a few people still haven’t taken down their outside HALLOWEEN decorations yet! So it’s this weird blend of Santa’s elves and ghosts/goblins! [What happened to Thanksgiving decor?])
Claudia says
Well, you know I don’t decorate for Christmas until at least the first of December, but some lights on the porch would be pretty and it gets so dark around here – no street lights- that I think drivers appreciate the lights. But I won’t decorate inside until the appropriate time. My birthday and Thanksgiving haven’t happened yet!
xoxo
kathy in iowa says
hej, vicki …
if you want indoor Christmas lights, i hope you put up indoor Christmas lights!
hope you all get a break from those winds and don’t have any damage or clean-up to do. stay safe in every way!
how are things going with your pup? is the adoption complete and are you able to tell us his name? hope all is well.
sending a hug,
kathy
Claudia says
My name is in the credits. Jim even did a double-check to see. Billed as the character “Nurse Claudia” ha ha.
On those winds can be so strong! I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with them. I certainly remember them well from my time in CA. They are relentless and nerve-racking.
Stay safe, Vicki.
Amy says
Have a fabulous time at the NYC premiere of “Spoiler Alert”! Sounds so exciting!!
How wonderful to be able to reconnect with everyone you worked with on the film. π
Claudia says
It will be very nice indeed. Nearly a year since we wrapped filming
Stay safe, Amy.
Debbie in Oregon says
How exciting to be invited to the movie premier!! I know you’ll enjoy seeing all of the new friends you made during filming, and introducing them to Don. I know you think you live a very low key life …. but being invited to the premier, by the star of the movie … another experience to add to your very fascinating (to me) life!
I love a first snow! It was 50, and sunny, today in Oregon … but will be down into the 20’s tonight.
kathy in iowa says
and being in the movie … all fascinating to me, too!
kathy
Claudia says
Basically a low-key life with occasional excitement.
Thanks so much, Debbie.
