It’s raining a bit here today and I hope it’s raining back home. We need it! There’s been so little of it that we’ve had to get used to seeing this:
You remember that I stopped my watering when I realized how dry things were? We have a well and I decided using so much water was not a wise idea. When I was home last weekend, I walked around trying to find new grass sprouting up. There was a bit of it, but not much. I think this patch of dirt will be with us until we can reseed again in the fall. But, gosh darn it, the grass surrounding the dirt has been neatly and tidily mowed!
The garden is filling in nicely. (Note the two bathroom rugs drying in the sun.)
The hostas are really taking off. There were 2 or 3 established hostas on the property when we moved in, and I planted several more. I love them. I just planted 2 more over by the shed.
These hostas, day lilies and coneflowers are in a bed right by the front porch.
Wild Honeysuckle grows all over our property. This bush is next to the shed.
And this pink honeysuckle is thriving up on the back forty.
In two days, I get to go home for three days! I am planning on planting my window boxes, pots, and cleaning and prettying up the porch. I’ll be getting some hanging plants, as well. It’s much easier to do this kind of thing when I know I will be home this Spring. For the past 4 years, I’ve had to cross my fingers and hope Don watered everything regularly. And to his credit, he did the best he could. But let’s face it, I am more inclined to make sure everything is moist and happy.
We’re heading into the last two days in the rehearsal room. On Saturday, everything moves onstage and tech rehearsals begin. Today and tomorrow we have run-throughs of the entire show. That means lots of note-taking on my part.
Have a great Thursday.

So glad you get three days! I’ve never lived where I had a well, so I can imagine that’s something one must take into consideration all the time. I planted lots of hostas out front, but they’re still pretty small.

Your house and the plants around it look so pretty, Claudia! I love your side porch with the little gate. I just love hostas, and am always so amazed at how many different shades of green, yellow, white and even BLUE they come in. Yours are so beautiful. I hope you enjoy your days home and get your planting done. It’s still a little cold here to put things out but soon I hope. (I wish I could send you some of our rain!) Have you ever thought of putting up a rain barrel? I use mine all the time and it really cuts down on my water bill. Have a beautiful day!

Everything is greening up nicely, Claudia. Three days! What a wonderful break. Take is easy and enjoy the ride. Ann

So glad that you get some good time off, enjoy it.
Planting is fun, and seeing it all grow will be even better.
Throw some cosmo seeds on the bare patch, they need very little water, and then the flowers will be beautiful…lol.
We lived on wells for so long, it’s second nature to think before turning on the tap. Brown lawns are easy to see on the eyes when you live on a well…a shower is nicer then green grass right?

Looking good Claudia! Even your brown patch will be looking better soon. I bet the honeysuckle smells wonderful. Good luck with the play!

I love making to do lists and thinking about them ahead of time…cleaning the porch becomes decorating in my head and when I get to do it, I know exactly the accessories to use! Enjoy the plan and the three days!

I love hostas and so do the slugs we have around here. Rather than battle the slugs, I didn’t plant hostas.

I love hostas and they border my house. Most of them have purple blooms in the summer but the ones that have white blooms smell heavenly. I cut them and bring them inside and they scent the whole room!
I am happy you have some time off…enjoy yourself!

Jane

Your hostas look very healthy. I need to re-do some flowerbeds where things are getting crowded. It’s such a joy to have flowers and flowering shrubs! Your honeysuckle is beautiful.

I hope you are getting some rain at home, too. We have been extremely dry here and this week we have rain all week long. SO much rain that portions of our main highway South was closed right down and school was delayed for several hours this AM for fear of flooding…What’s that old saying…when it rains, it pours?
I am doing my first baskets in years because I am not working full time plus this Spring/Summer. I have been out weeding and moving tings around.
I love your hostas…they are one of my favorite “go to ” plants because they are so forgiving as to their care.
Hope your rehearsals are all good and you don’t have to do too much fine tuning/reblocking. xo Diana

It hasn’t rained in a long time here. There’s a slight chance today and I really hope so everything is so droopy. Hope you get some too.
Hostas are so very easy to divide! Lots of free plants from one.

It looks as if things are shaping up nicely in your yard. Love the hostas.

Wow, beginning to good there around the cottage Claudia – grass is greening up and those hostas are fab. I have honeysuckle on my back fence – orangey-red color – pretty but doesn’t smell as good as the wild ones.
Happy weekend dear.

Just discovered your lovely blog and will be back to visit again. I too love hostas and honeysuckle, as they grow so well here in Alaska. Bishop’s Weed is a favorite ground cover, and Hansa roses, dwarf Korean lilacs, forsythia, bleeding heart and varigated dogwood favorite shrubbery. We are in a old/new farmhouse that we bought last June and it’s landscaping is pretty sad – well, it’s almost nothing really, so we are happily planning our gardens and periennial beds these days. It’s just barely Spring here in Alaska, the trees have new buds and the grass is beginning to sprout up little bits of green. I can’t wait to begin planting.
