This morning. It rained yesterday and this morning was quite foggy. I love a foggy morning!
We still haven’t taken the a/c units out of the windows, but we’ll do that this week. And it’s time to clean up the porch, empty the pots, rearrange a bit of the shed and store everything for the winter. So that’s the agenda for this week, along with getting our Christmas tree and hanging lights on the porch.
We already have our gifts and have opened them, of course, but that will not make a whit of difference as to celebrating Christmas. Lights, ornaments, decorated dollhouses, girls in Christmas sweaters, and Christmas music playing on the radio – all of it is joyous and also, in the best way possible, an escape from the world. And we need that right now. For a month or so, we can do our best to let go of worries and just be. I am fully onboard.
Today, I’m going to dust the dollhouse interiors and do some decorating.
Blythe Headquarters is also undergoing a subtle transformation:
The trees and the little deer are from Target. You an’t beat that store for inexpensive but tasteful decorations. Each shelf has a its own Christmas tree.
I sent off another package yesterday to a buyer who purchased two of my McCoy pieces. Got back home, knowing there wouldn’t be any more sales for a bit, only to get a message from Etsy later in the day that I’d sold another McCoy vase. So I have to go out tomorrow to get more packing material. With pottery, you have to be very careful. Everything needs to be wrapped in bubble wrap and then the box needs to be filled with padding and paper. I need more tissue paper, brown paper, and a couple more boxes.
I’m grateful for the sales, of course. I added a few items yesterday that are non-McCoy; a rare Susie Cooper demitasse set, a large Roseville vase which is exquisite but a bit too big for my cabinet, two antique hatpin holders (they’re gorgeous but have been hidden away in my china cabinet) and – oh yes – one McCoy planter in aqua.
The Roseville is rather expensive because it’s large and in excellent condition; the Susie Cooper pattern used in the demitasse set is on display at the V & A museum in London. If they don’t sell, I’m okay with that.
Anyway, shopkeeper Claudia is taking the day off today to indulge in play.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

congratulations on more sales, claudia! :)
and on taking time to play, decorate, rest and relax … enjoy every minute!
still at the car shop. oil change done and now they are flushing the brake fluid. for a 2012 car with 122,300 miles, it’s doing well, but recently my sun visor somehow broke (?!?); it’s still in place, but won’t stay up all the way or move fully/easily. putting off the 400$ bill to fix that. anyway, once the brake fluid is replaced, i will run a couple errands (one will be to mail the blythe parkas and sweater to you; usps), shower and then spend the day with members of my family. :)
happy, safe weekend to all!

I like fog, too… except for driving in it. I really enjoy all the Christmas lights, movies, music…and cookies! I heard about list the other day of the most popular Christmas movies. Very few were the good old classics. I really enjoy White Christmas, The Bishop’s Wife, A Christmas Carol, etc….which were not on the list. Glad you’re seeing success with selling the pieces you’re putting on ETSY!
Claudia says
My favorite Christmas movies are period movies – not modern silliness!
Stay safe, Barrie.

I also love a foggy morning, but it makes me miss San Francisco a bit more than every other kind of morning. Congrats on the success of the Etsy store. It’s the perfect selling season, I think.
I’m a bit misty, too, this morning thinking about the death of Shane MacGowan, the Pogues front man. I’m afraid that Fairytale of New York is always at the top of my Xmas music list—a bit out of character for me, but I’ve always liked it. The New Yorker call ed him “insubordinate”. That cheered me up.
Claudia says
I never really knew of him. I had vaguely heard ot the Pogues, but it wasn’t my kind of music.
I’ll have to learn more about him.
Stay safe, Shanna.

Foggy….sort of what I am feeling as well. I have the tree set up in a corner of our kitchen/dining room. Just lights on it so far. I am not in the mood to start decorating. I just put a wreath on my door and lit a pumpkin caramel candle, listening to some relaxing soft jazz. I do not feel very inspired at the moment. The short hours of daylight….the news of the world doesn’t help. I check in on your corner of the world looking for normalcy….and balance. Wishing you the best….and all your readers a good day.
Claudia says
Well, I think we all feel that way. The world is sad and depressing, most of us suffer from some kind of SAD, as well. When it’s time to get enthused, you’ll know it, Maria. Don’t watch the news. Hang in there.
Stay safe.

It’s gloomy here…not exactly fog, but looks like it’s misting, but it’s not. I’d rather have fog…at least then I’d know.
Congrats on all your sales. What an inconvenience to buy more shipping supplies…but…yay, you have to buy more shipping supplies!
We will put up our Christmas tree tomorrow…then the fluffing begins. But, I will leave it with just the lights for a few days. Not going to rush it.
Enjoy your day off from postal duty! ;)
Claudia says
Hope your Christmas tree is in place and ready to be decorated!
Stay safe, Donnamae.

I say indulge! You’ve been working hard. I love the girls’ decor, too. I need to get to Target for a number of things and I’ll check out the deer. They’re really cute.
Sounds like a job, heading to the shed. Get there before the snow falls big! I need to finish up decorating, then on to baking, cards and frivolity! Cheers!
Claudia says
I was back at my Target yesterday and EVERYTHING I found last week was gone! So get there soon, Jeanie.
Stay safe.

I’m so happy your sales are going well. It’s hard to downsize but finding new homes for some of our treasures makes it easier to me. I’ll have some things to sell next year after reorganizing my home and life! I’m trying my best to just enjoy Christmas. I’ll be going to my daughter’s tonight to watch the Grands decorate the Christmas tree. I try to join them every year and my grandson Tiger called me this morning and invited me over this evening. It will bring me joy.
Claudia says
I’m so glad your daughter and her family are nearby. You need some joy right now, Linda.
Stay safe.
