French Toast, Birds & A Little Movie

July 12, 2014 at 9:18 am by Claudia

My husband has put in a request for French Toast this morning.

Since he cooks dinner every night, I suppose I should honor his request.

I make really good French Toast. Also, scrambled eggs like you wouldn’t believe – incredibly fluffy. And really tasty baked goods.

I say all this only because there is so much I can’t do in the kitchen. I like baking because it’s precise. Don is more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants cook, which makes for some imaginative and tasty dinners. My brother used to cook that way, too, and I stand in awe of that talent.

Meanwhile, at the birdbath:

little red bird on birdbath

I just happened to be coming out the kitchen door, camera in hand, when this house finch decided to take a little sip of the water.

I shot a quick, and I mean quick, little video this morning. The traffic on this road can get noisy, so I ran out in my pajamas in the early morning hours. It’s basically just a quick visit to the front of the house: porch, big garden bed, hostas, etc. If you blink, you’ll miss it. I’ll try to do a couple of others – maybe a walk through our woods, and also the garden beds at the side of the house. I definitely need to work on my walking and filming skills. Talk about jerky! Yikes.

Try not to get too excited.

Happy Saturday.

Brilliant idea to do a video garden walk through. Did you use your phone? I also like seeing a bird in your birdbath instead of a cat like mine:(

darn, darn, darn…my computer will not let me see the video. It was not working last week so I was going to buy a new one but…crawled under and disconnected everything and replugged it in again and got the internet to work.
Just this morning I was wondering why you never share recipes…
Enjoyed Dawns remark about her birdbath and the cat!

Oh, sorry you can’t get the video to play!

The blue tarp covers the old wooden door to our basement. We haven’t replaced the door, so it leaks a bit. If we keep the tarp on, no leaks!

Spectacular! I loved hearing your voice. The birdbath is sweet — I catch the hens in mine on occasion! That little house finch isn’t something we see much of here but this year I’ve notice quite a few– they have a vibrant fiery head. Would love more videos. Pat

Thanks for the garden tour. I love seeing the hostas. We don’t have them much here, so it’s more something I have come to know from gardening magazines. And especially loved seeing Scout, who definitely stopped for her moment in the spotlight! You have a great voice, Claudia. A real grown-ass woman’s voice, and I mean that as a compliment.

I don’t even really know how to take a video, I am embarrassed to say.
We have such a severe drought here that we had to stop watering our lawn, and now it is dead and horrid-looking.
    Very sad.

French Toast…oh wow, I haven’t had that in many years. I used to make it for my kids when they were little and sometimes I’d eat some, too. I like to cook AND bake, and thankfully, I’m good at both. (Not patting myself on the back – just saying.) Like Don, I’m one of those fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants cooks – but I’m also good at following a recipe. When I make something up and Brian asks me what it is or how I made it, my standard answer is, “Oh, just a little something I whipped up.” I was actually going to start another blog – a cooking one – with that name, but it was already taken. Very cool hearing your voice on the video. You sound different than I would’ve imagined!

Yes, I could start another blog – a cooking one – but I also toy with the idea of starting another on the topic of healthy living, too. I suppose I could combine the two – healthy cooking/eating could be part of the healthy living. But, like you’ve mentioned…maintaining two blogs is a lot of work! I already spend too much time online as it is, so I dunno. Still mulling it over.

I guess your voice is deeper and more mellow than I would’ve thought. :-)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
