This is a – what would you call it? – a leaf pod from one of our shag hickories. This is what first emerges in the spring. It’s just beginning to open.

Once the pod opens, the leaves appear.

I think they’re so beautiful, like perfect little sculptures.

I’ve been using my big girl camera a bit more lately and I’m really enjoying it.

I slept in a bit today, which really helped. It’s another beautiful day out there with abundant sunshine. I have to sow my zinnia seeds today, which is later than I normally do, but everything is slightly delayed this year.

I had a long talk with Don yesterday and we agreed that I had to order a new laptop. That left me feeling stressed for much of the day. I felt guilty for my boneheaded move that ended up spilling water all over my laptop. And now I have to use money that I’d planned to add to our savings account. But, in the end, there’s nothing I can do. Don tells me to let go of the guilt and I’m working on it.

Anyway. I ordered it from Apple and it will arrive sometime today, most likely late in the day because it’s coming via UPS and that’s when they deliver here.

New puzzle barely started – this one is a painting by Klimt.

Today: more mowing.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Those are magical photos of that tree I’ve never heard of. Just beautiful.

I can relate to your feelings of guilt over the laptop. Mine just became pretty hard to use while Fred was in the hospital. I knew it was old and getting to be problematic and I still kept plugging along with it until our son made me see that I really did have to upgrade. Electronics seem like a luxury until you try to imagine modern life without them. For me, it was kinda like debating whether to spend money on air to breathe. How did it get to be so important?

I didn’t not know. Don and I were just speaking of the time that I saw my first desktop computer, that little boxy Macintosh. That was in 1989 or 1990.

      Stay safe, Shanna.

I’m sowing zinnias today, too. We’re on the same schedule.

I’m sorry about the new computer but these days it is essential. and you’ll love it, I’m sure. Still…. frustrating.

I just bought a Klimt puzzle to give as a gift. I’ve been sorely tempted to open it!

You’re ahead of me now because I never got around to it! Had to mow.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

Don is right about letting go of the guilt but it’s hard to do that. Love the photos, I miss getting out in nature but my back just keeps me from so much these days. Happy Friday!

Everything I do out there involves my back. It’s so frustrating!

      Stay safe, Linda.

i’m sure i would feel the same way and know it is easier said than done, but i hope you can let go of the guilt. it’s not like you intentionally spilled water on the laptop (that’s where i’d say a guilty feeling belongs … hurting something or someone on purpose). this was an accident. i hope you enjoy the new laptop and have fun with it! :)

same with the puzzle. (did you ever see the movie “woman in gold”? loved it).

and wow … those shag hickory leaf pods are incredible! i’ve never seen one before so thanks for sharing it too.

we had a soft rain here yesterday afternoon. took a ride in it, then had the deck door open for part of it (love the sound and feeling of rain and the scents of wet fauna. also wanted some of those negative ions). good chance of rain today through sunday. :)

now that the free-standing shelves and lots and lots of books are in that new-to-me cupboard, my living room feels better to me. almost a bit bare (ha) … but that is in part due to my missing a chair (an old metal slightly-rockable lawn chair). took it in nearly a month ago to have a seat cushion made for it. am trying to be patient, but that is hard because i love the chair and enjoy sitting on it by the windows, maybe reading, more often knitting or daydreaming. and i apparently don’t love having too many bare spots around me. :) the upholsterer does great work and i love the fabric (have used it on cushions for two other chairs, currently not being used) so it will be worth the wait to me. just hoping they call soon! :)

hope everyone has a happy, safe friday!

That is a very interesting leaf pod! Amazing to see the process the leaves take!

That Klimt puzzle seems as though it might be challenging, considering the way he painted. I was able to see an exhibition of his paintings years ago in Los Angeles. Very elaborate….Enjoy the puzzle!

    Happy Friday!

It’s very challenging and I’m so tired these days from yard work that I can’t concentrate on it for very long.

      Stay safe, Barrie.

    Those photos are remarkable, Claudia!

It is hard to let go of guilt…but a working computer is vital these days…and especially since you do write a blog, that we all enjoy.

I’m taking a day of rest today…little sore this morning from planting yesterday. I lifted one too many heavy containers. I’m so excited to be planting, that I forget I don’t have the strength or stamina from my younger years…and I overdo. Hopefully, I can finish tomorrow.

    Enjoy your day! ;)

I do the same thing. I ended up mowing 2/3 of the front lawn, Don did the rest. I’m wiped out. So tomorrow is a day of rest.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

Sorry about the laptop; my husband and I know the pain (his phone).

I love that you know everything growing in your yard; what to look out for; the names of the trees and plants.

Have a nice, sunny weekend; I’m trying to put the emphasis on all kinds of motherly love for Mother’s Day; otherwise, I just miss my mom too much, although I guess we’re allowed to miss our moms on the special holiday. I’m leaving in an hour to put floral arrangements out for her and three other moms among our relatives who rest in peace at our beautiful cemetery and I know I’ll feel calmer afterward.

I just want all moms … all kinds of moms including doggie moms … everywhere … to celebrate their special Sunday! The nurturers; thank goodness for them.

I’m pretty sure that most of us here have lost our moms. It’s always hard on Mothers Day. But for me, it hits me much more intensely on other days. I can never predict when it will happen.

      Stay safe, Vicki.

Claudia, don’t feel guilty about the new laptop. It’s an investment, not a vain or unnecessary purchase. Continue to enjoy Spring’s unfolding.

It was an accident, Claudia. Forgive yourself. Hope there is no learning curve with the new laptop. Enjoy your new puzzle. We’ll both be thinking of our moms on Mother’s Day. Hugs, Elaine

So glad you enjoy the girls. I do try to show them sparingly.

I well remember that guilt from accidentally ruining a laptop. Nothing to be done because we absolutely need them. And your new one should last many years.

Had to google shag hickory tree. Those leaf pods are like nothing I’ve ever seen. Beautiful pictures. We’re hoping the isolated showers stay away tomorrow as I’m anxious to finally get to the nursery. Tonight they’re planting some evergreens next door near where the pine trees stood. It’s dark out and I can still hear them out there!

    Have a great weekend.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
