I’ve retreated into a world of dollhouses and Blythe dolls and books.
And sleep.
Last week, I was extremely sleep deprived. I caught up on my sleep and felt better. This week, I seem to crave sleep. I’ve been taking long naps in the afternoon. I slept longer than usual last night. With all the horrific news from Fr*mp (that’s my new name for him), each cabinet candidate more unqualified than the last, I think I’m doing the equivalent of burying my head in the sand – but in this case, it’s my pillow.
How are you doing this week?
It’s also hard for me to concentrate on reading. I can only do that first thing in the morning or in the very late afternoon, before dinner. Hopefully, this will get better over time.
I’ve got some chores on today’s agenda – I’m trying to keep busy.
As for the cold weather and the porch plants, the impatiens finally bit the dust, which I expected. But my other plants are still hanging in there. How much longer I can keep them going is the question. It’s going to get a bit warmer by Sunday, so maybe a week? No rain on the horizon until – maybe – my birthday. But I don’t trust the forecast because it seems that every time we get our hopes up, the predicted rain never comes. Rain would be the perfect birthday present.
The burning bush has lost most of its leaves, but lots of red berries remain. The migrating birds that stop off here often fly directly from the birdbath to the bush in order to get a bite to eat.
I’m thinking of all of you and sending you a big hug.
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.
Verna says
Claudia, thank you for the hug. It was lovely. I just sent one back to you. I’m actually reading your post and heading for a nap as well. I think all the stress and maybe shorter days is affecting me. Nothing we can do about the idiots, so…I agree with you, head in my pillow for a bit. I think I would like my head on the pillow in your picture. What cozy spot. Take care. Verna
Claudia says
Thank you, Verna! Take care of yourself.
Stay safe.

Good Morning, I planned on cutting back my dead hydrangea flowers but we had some rain last night and we really needed it. So I will put off the cutting until another day.
I agree with everything you say about Fr*ump. I am so afraid of what is going to happen now that so many of his hand picked people will be in charge of our lives on a daily basis. I pray every day for something to happen for the good of everyone.
Take care and I so enjoy reading and seeing your posts. It helps me to know that there are so many good people still caring about others.
Claudia says
Thank you, Barbara.
I pray for the same thing. A miracle. And why not?
Stay safe.

Good morning, Claudia. I love the photos of your dollhouses…such coziness! They look like great places to get away from the political craziness going on now. I always love the details you add.
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Barrie.
Stay safe.

glad you’re getting more sleep and working on the beacon hill (that’s the dollhouse in these photos right? looks great). hopefully your concentration for reading comes back soon, along with enough rain.
okay here for having a day full of beautiful dark gray skies and nearly 24 hours of soft rain (hopefully on its way to you) and lots of time with members of my family. today i will finish a cross-stitch project for my brother and sister-in-law (will take it out of town to a professional cross-stitch finisher for framing), then start one for my oldest niece and her family. no reading right now so i can keep stitching. watching earl, burl and the birds, but not the news.
my brother and sister-in-law are in new orleans right now and set to take a cruise on sunday for their anniversary next week. prayers said (and more are appreciated) that “sara” doesn’t turn into a hurricane and spoil this trip for them or hurt anyone. thank you.
best i get going on some things.
hope you, don and everyone else have a great day and stay safe. hugs from me to you all.

No! This is my first dollhouse, Hummingbird Cotttage.
Stay safe, Kathy.

I’m glad to hear you’re sleeping, Claudia. I finally had a decent night’s sleep last night and it makes such a difference.
Your charming pictures of Hummingbird Cottage are good for the soul.
Sending you a hug as well.
Claudia says
Thank you, Jenny. Glad you got some sleep last night, too.
Stay safe.

Claudia, I love the way you curate the items in your dollhouses. I only got a partial photo of the fireplace before I open the full post, and found myself thinking, “When and where did Claudia and Don put in that fireplace?” I thought it was a “real” fireplace at your cottage!
I know your Mockingbird Hill Cottage and Don and your special projects will bring you some peace during what will be a long siege.
Claudia says
Don’t I wish it was our fireplace! Thank you for your kind words, Wendy.
Stay safe.

dear Claudia/Don — glad you are feeling better — depression still lingers here — will last maybe 4 years at least — no cure/help in sight. your dhouse room looks great. we rec’d over 2 inches of rain earlier this week — SO thankful — thought it might head your way but seems to have vanished on wx map — wx man saying much cooler next week w/maybe snow flurries — not getting my hopes up. stay safe/healthy
Claudia says
I think depression will linger for a long time, Linda.
Thanks so much.
Stay safe.

I’m avoiding all news but still see enough about Fr*ump to make me uneasy. Resting, reading, watching TV and doing some coloring are helping my mind to rest. Monday is the one year anniversary of my Mom’s passing. I miss her every day but I’m moving forward bit more each day. Love the photos of the dollhouse. Hugs back to you.
Claudia says
I can’t believe it’s been a year, Linda. My thought are with you. These anniversaries can be tough.
Stay safe.
