Friday: Mei, The Fawn, and The Hearings

June 17, 2022 at 9:00 am by Claudia

Mei is enjoying the glider this morning.

Mei is the creation of my friend Natalia of VegaDolls. I really love her work and was originally introduced to her dolls by my friend Susannah, who has at least 3 of them (so do I.) She might have more. Natalia has a big heart. VegaDolls is named after Natalia’s daughter, Vega, who is in a wheelchair. Both Susannah and I say that her girls are full of heart and soul.

Latest in the mom and fawn stories. Yesterday, we were in the house and, once again, I saw a deer run from the front lawn up to the corral. I wasn’t sure who it was, but soon enough, we saw the fawn coming down from the corral to the area right outside our kitchen door. She was bleating, poor thing, wondering were her mom was. Mom was over by the wood pile near the shed. Of course, I always want to go out there and guide her to her mom, but I’d only scare her. Meanwhile, Mom walked up the path into the woods while baby went up into the back forty. Honestly, I think Mom hasn’t a clue!

I’m pretty sure that they travel across the road to get to the creek, but it’s very dangerous and there are other paths to the water that are safer. But there’s nothing I can do.

Except worry, of course.

The hearings. Oh my god. I am so hyped up after they finish that I have to meditate. Yesterday’s hearing was the most powerful so far (to me.) Trump incited a mob to attack his Vice-President. Did you ever think you would read those words other than in a piece of fiction?

Can we tar and feather him before he’s thrown in prison for the rest of his sorry life?

Okay, Claudia. Take a deep breath.

I may mow a bit today. The front lawn and the lilac side of the lawn need to be taken care of.

We’re watching Borgen  on Netflix. We started it a year or so ago, but didn’t get into it. We decided to give it another look and now we’re hooked.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

I was worried they’d lose a lot of folks after Act I yesterday — Luttig had things to say but didn’t deliver well. I think during the recess they must have decided to send more questions to the other guy , as we didn’t see him much till the end, which was powerful. The whole “40 feet away” thing was a bit of a shock, especially when he pointed out how short 40 feet really was. I can’t stop watching them. And I agree, tarring and feathering has its place and this might be one.

No pun intended, but Mei is a doll. (So is your fawn.)

I think Luttig has some speech issues, or perhaps it’s just his way of speaking. He delivered powerfully (at least to Don and me.) A little strange at first, but I had the sense that he was sick at heart at what he saw and he chose his words very, very carefully and with great dignity. I found his testimony very moving. I got quite impatient with those who were making jokes about him on Twitter and called each and every one of them out.

The whole thing is so shocking and almost surreal. This really happened and I can’t get over it.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

I agree about choosing his words carefully — every single one mattered. (I wonder if you are right about speech issues. Months after my friend was in a Covid coma for three months with a trache, she still speaks in halting phrases of several words or a short phrase at a time, unlike her pre-Covid speech. I wonder if that phrasing with breath becomes habit, combined with careful thought. Just a wonder. Definitely a man who was sick at heart. His last words at the end will stand on their own in the future.

Saw a mom give birth to a fawn in front yard when I lived in my home state few years ago…for hours I went to the door…baby there…finally about 2 in the morning, the fawn was gone…funny how we put them in our bubble of caring…have a good day…

I agree with you about Judge Luttig. This isn’t a made for TV movie that is supposed to entertain us! It is serious and I thought he conveyed that well. Pence and his staff were thanked for their courage but I wonder, why didn’t they speak up before Jan. 6th! All through Nov. and Dec., they were looking for ways to overturn the election and nobody thought to notify the public or warn the other members of Congress.
I love the Chairman Bennie Thompson.

Yes, why didn’t they speak up?

      I love Bennie Thompson, too.

      Thanks, Ellen.

I’ve found the hearings to be increasingly powerful and intense as they continue. Yesterday’s hearing was absolutely stunning.

And I wholeheartedly agree with Judge Luttig’s warning…
“Almost two years after that fateful day … Donald Trump and his allies and supporters are a clear and present danger to American democracy.”

We continue to swelter here with high temperatures and humidity. Looks like you may have a slight cooling over the weekend and into the beginning of next week.

    Stay safe & well.

      Thanks so much, Amy.

The Hearings have been fascinating. As someone else said this is NOT entertainment. This isn’t meant to be a 3rd rate Reality show. This is serious, folks. Back in the day of Watergate, there was still respect for Country and for the Constitution. Now there is nothing but Party over all else. Most of these numbskulls don’t have a single thought worth sharing. And we are clearly in the eye of the hurricane named Stupidity. Sadly there so far has not been any repercussions. Dare we dream?

I’m dreaming, but I’m also wary. I absolutely believe that everyone, including Trump, must be prosecuted. We will never heal if that doesn’t happen. And our democracy will be a thing of the past.

      Stay safe, Chris.

dear Claudia/Don — altho I usually cannot watch much TV, I find myself ‘glued’ to the hearings — never could I imagined such horrible conduct from a president of our country — it is really scary. How can members of the committee, especially Ms Cheney, Mr Thompson sit w/straight faces thru this?? how can they have this knowledge and not scream out loud — of course, that would be me, haha!!! Judge Luttig spoke very clearly with measured reserve — just as I would expect a judge to have — his final words were, indeed, very chilling for a Republican to utter — and I believe he is completely correct. of course, I sat in disbelief during Watergate never thinking this kind of thing could ever happen again, but here we are. I’m not sure ‘tar and feathers’ would even phase tRump b/c he seems to think he is untouchable by any law or court. I do not have that opinion, but many, many citizens of our country have the same opinion as tRump — very scary. stay healthy/safe

Watergate seems like a walk in the park compared to this, doesn’t it?

He’s already confessing to it in a speech he gave yesterday. All of that can be used against him. His ego and need for attention will always cause him to talk when he should shut up.

      Stay safe, Linda

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
