Friday Stuff

July 26, 2024 at 8:42 am by Claudia

The gardens are pretty darned lush at the moment. Everything  is blooming. I will miss this come autumn. I’m realizing how quickly the time flies by; even when we have hot weather that slows everything up and seems to last forever, suddenly we’re near the end of July. I want to stop time for a bit, freeze-frame this view, and keep it around as long as I can.

Today, I think it’s time for some weed pulling and trimming. It’s a bit cooler this morning and boy, is it a beautiful sunny day.

It’s been a tiring couple of days as we had problems with Don’s laptop and I was obsessed about finding the solution. Eventually, we did, but I worried that we’d have to buy a new one. Anyway, all that worry and the energy it takes to figure out what the heck to do really took its toll. We were wiped out yesterday afternoon.

We ran some errands the other day, stopping at the post office and the library and then at a bookshop in a neighboring town, where I found two used Jane Gardam novels I haven’t read. They are now on my TBR pile. I’m deep into Clete  by James Lee Burke. I’ve never been disappointed by any of his mysteries. He writes about crime and the subject matter can be rough, but my heavens, he is a poet. It’s a strange and wonderful combination.

I’m excited for the start of the Olympics. It will be a lovely distraction from the election and he-who-shall-not-be-named. Side note: a gymnast on the team from the Phillipines is the daughter of two of my former students. Yvonne and Anthony were students of mine when I taught at Boston University. They seemed as different as two people could be. Right toward the end of their time there, they started dating, which was a huge surprise. I remember talking to Yvonne about that and I was a little worried, since Tony was a bit of a playboy. Well, they’ve been together ever since, have three beautiful children, and live in Los Angeles. Tony is a fairly well known actor and has been a regular in a few TV series. Their daughter is Levi Jung Ruivivar, in case you’re watching. Jung is Yvonne’s surname, Ruivivar is Tony’s surname. Best of luck, Levi!

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Happy you were able to figure out Don’s computer issue. Always scary to think about investing in a new one. I am sooooo excited about the Olympics. I enjoy the various sporting events and this year the backdrop is my beloved Paris. What could be better.

Glad that Don’s laptop is okay now. I shall look out for Levi in Gymnastics as it’s one of my favourite events. Swimming/Diving is the other.

My friend has managed to get tickets for one of the track events and is going to Paris for three days. It’s only 75 minutes away by plane to Charles De Gaulle from our city’s airport.
Anyway, looking forward to the opening ceremony!

    Happy Friday

Between you and Don, you guys have many amazing connections to famous people!
I picked green beans and zinnias from my brother’s garden plot today. The flowers are so pretty and the green beans will be yummy!

i am not tech-y at all so am super-impressed and sending kudos to you two for solving the problem with don’s laptop!

hope the lawn work went well (looks great) and glad that you both took time to rest and relax.

i am not relaxed. here’s one reason. on june 20 my doctor’s office said liver tests (ultrasound and mri, prompted by a ct scan for that sporadic low abdomen-front of-a-leg pain) were “normal”, but now, a month later? the nurse called and said there were a couple of findings on those tests, which she read to me in medical jargon. when i told her that i didn’t understand those words and asked for more information, the nurse said she and another employee that she checked with “don’t understand” what that stuff means and would have my doctor call me about it. no call yet, only an appointment for late august to see a hepatologist. trying to relax, to not think about it, to not search online for anything about livers. trying to be a patient patient and especially a prayer-full one.

    thanks for listening.

on a happier note, because it is very hot here again, we were so glad yesterday to see earl drinking water left in a shallow dish on the deck. :)

hope you all have a wonderful weekend with weather that is comfortable and allows you to do what you want to do. stay safe.

I’m so sorry this happened to you, Kathy. And it seems to have been handled very unprofessionally. The doctor should have called you, not the nurse. You are in my prayers, my friend. If you need to talk about it, I am always here.

      Much love to you, Kathy.

      Stay safe.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
