Life on the road; a shot of my hotel room coffee table this morning.
I’m staying at Homewood Suites, a place very familiar to me as I have spent a lot of time here over the years. My room is very nice. There are a wide variety of them here, some too small, some rather large. This is mid-sized and perfect.
The best thing is that it faces an inner courtyard so I don’t hear the thundering bass coming from the local bars. That’s been a big problem in the past. I’m going to remember this for the future. Must have room facing courtyard. Everyone here is very nice – many staff members seem like old friends.
I was so tired last night that I fell asleep before 10 pm, which was fine, but the consequence of that was waking up very early this morning. Ah, well. Homewood Suites has a free breakfast every morning, so I trotted on down to get some food and coffee. The in-room coffee is not at all good, but the ‘Robust’ version of coffee available downstairs is much better. It’s not Peets, but it will do.
The beds are wonderful. Firm. Good pillows. I slept like a baby.
Driving to Hartford was rather a mess because of the torrential rain that poured down for most of the two hour journey. I’m always amazed by the amount of drivers who don’t put their lights on during a storm. Really? I can barely see you!
It’s a state law in NY. If you are using your windshield wipers, you have to have your lights on. I don’t know what the law is in Connecticut, but there were a lot of cars without their lights on.
The read-through of Anastasia was wonderful, very moving, beautifully sung – very exciting! The music is beautiful. The cast is very talented. The room was full of the cast, the writers, support staff, producers, and designers. It’s going to be very fun to work on and I’m thrilled to be a small part of it.
Today, we’ll do some table work – talking about the script and the characters and the language. Then I drive home at the end of the day.
See you tomorrow.
Happy Friday.

I’m glad you are having a good time! You’ve had some bad weather up your way so safe travels my friend.
hugs,
Linda

Weather promises to be okay for the next two days. I’m staying one more night (I’m washing my underwear out as I write this!)

Glad you were able to get some rest last night Claudia! Driving in rain is so stressful for me…just hate it. And, you are correct, there are so many idiots out there who don’t/won’t put their lights on. We had some torrential downpours yesterday. 30-45 minutes ago (10:15 a.m.) I was on a conference call and happened to look out the office window. Without even thinking I blurted out…rather loudly…”holy sh*t it’s snowing outside!” It looked like a blizzard. Thankfully that has stopped, though I know that snow is in our forecast for tomorrow. April 8th? April 9th? Really? Get home safely and I hope Don is feeling better. Enjoy your weekend.
Claudia says
We’re not getting any snow in the Hartford forecast or in the forecast for back home. I’m not going home until tomorrow night.
Vicki says
Very nice hotel room! And, yes, the laws are the same in California. It rains, you turn on headlights and wipers, not one without the other. I’m awaiting rain as I write this; delighted that we might get a good amount of rain here this afternoon and especially tomorrow whereas yesterday was a ‘sprinkle’ (ultra light rain) event. For once, the stars must be aligned…the Northeast and West Coast are actually encountering some of the same weather although we won’t get your predicted snow tomorrow. Safe drive home…and glad you’re enjoying the work with your actors.
Claudia says
No predicted snow for us here in Hartford or at home. I don’t know who is supposed to be getting it, but it’s not us. Maybe closer to the coast.
Donnamae says
I sincerely hope your trip back will be less adventurous! We woke up to snow this morning again…ugh! I was studying your hotel room. the bed looks to be super comfortable…but could use your colorful quilt draped on it, me thinks! Safe trip home! ;)
Claudia says
Yes, it could definitely use my quilt. Though I have to say that I like this white cover better than the brown ones that used to be on these beds. They’ve changed out the carpet and the bed linens in the last year.
Sue says
Have a safe journey home tonight. We are forecasted to receive 1-3 inches of snow tomorrow, ugh.
It sounds as though you are enjoying working on Anastasia! I can only imagine the music is wonderful in a stage version.
I hope you arrive home to find Don’s leg much improved. Have a terrific weekend!
Claudia says
Not going home until tomorrow night, Sue. We decided that I should work tomorrow too. No snow in the forecast here, unless it’s suddenly changed.
Betsy says
I’m glad you arrived safely Claudia. I do not like driving in the rain or after dark anymore. I’m only 56 but my eyes seem older! :-). I like your hotel room. When you find a good hotel, it’s nice to stay there over and over. We do that a lot. In fact, next week my husband and I are driving to Portland, OR to visit some blogging friends, Teresa, Taci, Gracie and Becky. We have found a hotel we really like there and have become repeat visitors. A great breakfast and Hubby likes the coffee. An important thing, at least that’s what I’m told. I hope work goes well today and you have a safe trip back home.
Blessings,
Betsy

Meredith has mentioned those friends of yours – she loves them all. Someday, you’ll all have get together!

I’m betting more states have the wipers & lights rule now, than don’t. I’m just glad to have a car has all these great sensors and settings now. If I turn my Light switch to Automatic, the headlights come on when the car senses enough darkness, often when a storm is just threatening. There are 5 variables on the wipers now too – yikes. From every 3 seconds to about once every 30 seconds – which has me pretty well-covered. Here in New York it seems like most cars have daytime running lights anyway, so most people always have their headlights on, regardless of the time or weather conditions. Another good thing. ?
Claudia says
You must have a fancy car, Janet!
Daytime running lights were of absolutely no help yesterday. I couldn’t even see them.
Janet in Rochester says
Actually I just have a Chevy Cruze [first new car in 14 years]. But I WAS flabbergasted to find out about all the fancy improvements they’ve made in that time. Very surprising, and it does seem fancy to me. But my nephew tells me these features have been on cars for years. So I guess it paid to keep it for such a long time – just for the pleasure of getting all these “luxurious” improvements when you finally pop for a new one! LOL.
Susan says
Working is good for you Claudia, you are sounding like your old self. Just keep focusing on the present. Safe travels home!
Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
Claudia says
Thank you, Susan.

How great that you have been a part of so many wonderful productions, working with production staff and actors who inspire you and each other to do even better. Have fun, and safe driving home. Hope the weather isn’t too bad on the drive home. Torrential rain and drivers without a clue are scary.
Claudia says
There’s been a delay in my departure as Darko and I decided I should stay one more day. That’s good. It’s better to get this work in now rather than try to patch things later.
Wendy T says
Hope you get a lot of work done and then can go home. I go crazy seeing wipers on and no lights…unless not only is it a law, but the lights help others see you!
Betsy says
It is a state law in CT but unfortunately people are clueless. Can’t wait to see Anastasia !
Claudia says
It’s going to be pretty darned wonderful. I can tell already, Betsy.
Tammy says
I always drive with my lights on here because everyone is crazy without any rain. Has just become a habit for me now. Love Homewood Suites. Always very cozy.
Sheila says
Glad you got a good rest. That makes all the difference, doesn’t it? And quiet helps, too.
So glad things are going well with the production. This is SO exciting!
