Fuzzy Little Babies & a Question

May 22, 2011 at 9:08 pm by Claudia

I can’t help it. The best show ever is taking place outside my door. I was gone most of today and couldn’t wait to get back and see the babies. But first I had to go to a store and buy a coffee maker. The one supplied by the theater (only 3 weeks old) died this morning. Really. When I realized this in the early am hours,  I blindly drove to the gas station. There’s nowhere else to go in this small town on a Sunday morning. Truly terrible coffee. I love dark roasts and this stuff was very weak and bland. I wasn’t about to wake up on my day off tomorrow and drink more of that stuff.

Here are the little birdie updates (there are 3 babies.) If you’re not a fan of baby birds, you may want to move on to another blog.

These were taken as the sky darkened and big rain clouds threatened.

At this point, the tornado siren went off and suddenly we were under a tornado warning. But I kept snapping away.

<img “=”” border=”0″ src=”http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w7KYEAi3wxw/TdmvsceyCHI/AAAAAAAAF6k/bSe5ipCh9yw/s576/IMG_9138.jpg” />

Scary. Mama Robin had her beak open. She was stressed, too.

Sometime she sits on the babies and I see a beak – these little ones are lively.

The sun came out briefly and I tried again. But I think Mama had had enough.

If looks could kill. Okay, I’ll stop for the night.

I’m trying to record as much of this as possible. I might never have such a wonderful opportunity again!

Oh, I’ve been meaning to post this and keep forgetting to. You know how I feel about giveaways that make you jump through hoops, right? I really don’t think one should have to do anything other than leave a comment. Anything else is annoying and merely a way to add followers, etc. I saw something the other day that made me laugh out loud. (The name of the blog is not important.) After leaving a comment, you could gain more chances by doing the following:

1. Subscribe to the blog by email.
2. Follow (the blog) on Twitter.
3. Become a Follower.
4. Tweet about the giveaway. You could do it once a day.
5. Add a button.
6. Follow on Networked Blogs.
7. Follow the blog on Blogfrog.
8. Vote for the blog for some sort of best blog contest. You could do it once a day.

Is it just me or is this ridiculous? Now, to be fair, it was clear that this blogger was trying to earn money from blogging. But, come on. When I see something like this, I quickly move on. And I never visit that blog again.

Really missing my doggies today. I love you Scout and Riley.

Day off Monday. On the docket? Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Target. And maybe a movie.

You should get a stove-top espresso maker. It’ll never breakdown, and the coffee is divine! I use mine every morning to make capuccino. I even blogged about it. It was my first post ever! The robins are precious. I love watching their progress.

    Claudia,

I love the Robin pictures. Glad you got a new coffee pot. We use a Breville Keurig type coffee maker but I always have a French Press in the cupboard just in case.

I don’t do giveaways and I really don’t enter them. I have enough. I have received some lovely unsolicited gifts which I treasure. In fact, I have really cut back on the “parties” as I found myself chasing comments and followers. Now I am back to just blogging and commenting for the sake of it.

Isn’t it wonderful having baby birds to watch? They grow so fast, it’s important to capture every moment possible before they’re gone. I have Mockingbird babies in a rose in the garden, and their parents aren’t as patient as your robin. I took my life in my hands getting one photo of the babies in the nest last week. I will continue trying, because I’m persistent that way. :)

We all know that most giveaways are a method to drive more traffic to some blog … but why? I have giveaways on occasion, but it’s because I’m feeling particularly generous at the moment an I want to thank folks for reading my drivel on a regular basis. I don’t care how many followers I have or how many people have linked to me … just a simple thank you.

This is timely because I know that one of the roses from my nursery is the object of a giveaway coming soon on another blog … later today, I think. It makes me feel weird … but flattered.

What fabulous pictures of those sweet baby birds, Claudia…isn’t nature amazing?! We’ve got a couple of nests filled with life on our house, too–my photos aren’t quite as wonderful as yours, though!

I love that you kept right on snapping with the tornado siren going–sounds like something I would do!

Love your take on giveaways–I agree! It gets a bit silly out there sometimes!

    Wishing you a beautiful, tornado-free day…

Mama Robin may be weary of your photography sessions, but not me! Love seeing the little family grow.
Was wondering how you fared in the weather yesterday. It was another wicked day for so many.
Stay safe from weather and protective mama birds!

Those baby robins are so darling! I really like their little whispy hair-do’s… too cute!

I don’t like to jump through hoops for giveaway either. Drives me batty. Speaking of giveaways… I’ll be having one soon. No hoops~ I promise!

I am really enjoying your robin family updates. Your photos are wonderful – and they give me a smile.

Wow! Those are some giveaway requirements. It would be too much work for me. I do have a giveaway once a year on Pink Saturday birthday, but I do it to thank everyone for making Pink Saturday such a special day.

I’m there with you on the coffee. When I have my daily cup, I want it to be good …

Claudia, such fabulous pictures of the precious baby birds. And I love mama’s “stop it” stare at you :) Hope that tornado missed you and I don’t enter give-aways because of the hoop-jumping. Keep snapping those pictures even if mama gives you the evil eye again. Ann

Claudia, they are so wonderful,-the babyes-and mama bird ,too- I so understand, she wanted rest from you “nosy” behavior- :))
-I love giveawayes,- but I would never ask anyone to jump through so many steps- thats too much-
two or three,at the most-that`s enough–and when having one myself-there are only the one comment,on the giveaway blogpost.
    I hope you feel good-

totally adore the Robin Family Saga…so precious.

Right there with you on the hoops to jump through for give aways…I just move on, also.

I brought my espresso machine, distilled water, and my own illy espresso to the hotel for Art Unraveled the last time I attended. More important than extra clothes. lol

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
